Internal mic is on the housing of my control unit, they way it is oriented it is facing the dash in that pic....VERY sensitive to wind noise, I shoved one of my foam earplugs in there and it made it eliminated almost all the wind.

Just did a quick upload of a lap with low speeds (traffic) and more towards redline so you can hear the dynamic range.

Foam stuffed in there and the gain turned all the way up to compensate, some wind noise happens north of 120mph but a tornado should make some noise :p

With the setup you have though you can fit an external mic.

I fitted a Rhode Lavalier GO to my GoPro setup and it made a huge difference to the sound quality of videos.

Was considering putting one facing backwards in the tail section to capture the exhaust, but I think anything further up towards the front of the bodywork would melt.

The new SmartyCam 3 Dual has me intrigued with a two camera setup, will probably be a post season upgrade once the supply chain issues ease up.

Agreed - intriguing. Pricey too. Do you know the tl;dr on the benefits?

You could mount the mic in one of the two air ducts beside the storage compartment and it will pick up the exhaust sound well if not too well and it won’t melt.

Agreed on the dual… one mounted where you have it now and the other on the tail like MotoGP 👍

Yeah it’d be fun as .... having front and rear facing cameras

I have the same Smartycam 2.2 bullet cam that Kev has. I mounted the camera in the same spot, but I mounted the guts between the windscreen and the dash. Since it is all automatic, I don't have to touch it except for the SD card which I can easily access still. Here's a couple example vids to show the audio quality when the guts are mounted behind the windscreen.

This is their reply, essentially what we gathered…

“There are currently 2 versions of smartycam 3 .
The Sport is a camera and recorder box in one unit but requires an aim dash or logger to send data to it. It has an internal mic but does not have a facility for an external mic.

The Dual is a recorder box to which you can connect two aim bullet cameras, it has an internal mic and the possibility of connecting an external mic if the correct harness is chosen.”

Any chance next time you have the nose off you can snap a pic of how you mounted it?

I’m going to side mount my steering damper then see if I can mount the control unit in front of the top clamp of the triple tree.
