Awww, come on. The 916 and the F4 were both immaculate concepts of Massimo. That makes them inextricably linked from a design perspective. MVs are keeping the steel trellis alive too.
I loved my MV F4 1000 Senna for all the same ways you love your 1199s - it is torquey, thrilling, and a beast to ride that demands to be whipped. So despite their radical differences in approach the F4 and the 1199 had a version similar emotional component while piloting. Obviously the F4 design is woefully outdated at this point, but the F3 is at least interesting.
That said... if ever there was a poster child for mismanaged motorcycle companies MV is it. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was nothing more than a series of bureaucratic errors that led to this state.

I actually am a big fan of the f3 800. That would be my middleweight bike of choice just to have something different from a Panigale (899) but my next bike will more than likely be something along the lines of a speed triple/brutale/fill in the blank. Basically something more upright for longer riding n comfort.

They never get it. I'd sooner start smoking crack before living/doing business in California. I'm in NJ and the red tape is no better here.
As we all know, the DMV is the biggest money pit in these liberal states.

Knowing California all too well, I'd put money on this somehow involving their bikes emission control system. Just another way for California to try and TAX TAX TAX everyone.
