My 1299 Concern

The problem is maintenance is pretty high compared to Jap models. The 15k service is the big one and can be very expensive if all valves need to be shimmed as I believe the engine must be pulled to complete service. 20 to 30 hours shop time. I never found out as I sold mine before it got there. I am sure someone here can give exact figures.

Not really any more expensive than previous Ducati SBKS. My 748 had to have valves checked/shimmed every 6k miles ( about $600 each time). At 15k miles the $1250 I paid (including parts for oil, filter, plugs, air filter, etc.) was actually cheaper based on cost per mile.

Mechanic told me it's rare to find any of these that have a valve out of spec at 15k miles. Mine were fine. And yes, a valve out of spec requires a further teardown (and would involve another $500-$600 cost). But *all* valves needing to be shimmed? Never heard of it before (and I've owned Ducati's since late 80s). It's possible I suppose. But highly unlikely.

From where I come from, the 1299s model cost US$47000. I've paid the down payment in March 2015 and I'm still waiting patiently for its arrival.
I'm sure after 1 year it will depreciate by US$11000.
Oh well like some of them mentioned earlier, I'm not planning to sell the bike at all. So even though the depreciation is there, I'll try to ignore it :)

So I am really excited to pick up a 1299, I posted my youtube review here a while back. I have one concern, so when I buy a bike I ride it. Ill likely put thousands of miles each year on the bike. I know jap bikes hold value pretty well as the miles rack up (per se) how about the 1299. I looked online and didnt see a bunch of high mileage 1199s. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah the bike will devalue. How much will depend on etc etc. When the new 1399 comes out it will really drop in value.

So best you do not buy it. Simple.

I don't care about depriciation. I bought a bike I wanted, that I think looks good and is fun to drive. Saving miles on your bike for resale value is like not having ... with your girlfriend to save her for the next guy who comes along..

That's almost double the price in North America. Although I never am one to piss around with importing documents and all that, this would be a case where it may be worth it.

A standard Mini Cooper here cost around US$120,000. oh well :D

Haha I'm really hoping that it will be worth it. I've seen too many reviews and almost everyone of them is positive, so fingers crossed. My bike will only be here in June and I should be able to get it by end June.

Well, rest assured that you'll be happy with the bike. Beautiful and ridiculously capable in every aspect of riding.
