My Ducati's and their Problems!

I feel for you.
Owning three Ducatis I had my share of problems.
The S4RS disappointed with brake and cylinder oil leak issues.
My 1098S performed flawless and I sold it with 22k miles on the clock.
The 1199R had issues with the chain rubbing on the swing arm and air in the clutch which meant bleeding it every 600 miles.
I'm still working with DNA to get this issue fixed and it has only been three years.
I don't see another Ducati in my future due to the absolute lack of customer service regarding DNA, my dealer is awesome though.

is it really the dealer? my dealer is awesome but they can only do so much without help from dna. i dont know but as with many of you i dont see another ducati in my future.

i am thinking of leaving my track bike up here with my buddy just for an excuse to buy a new r1 for the track in florida or do i leave the track bike in nj track the 1199 and get a jet ski. tough decisions my way.

you cant help but feel uneasy when you hear your fellow Pani rider having issues...I for one did not have too many problems other recalls and dash fog.

However, it is INTERESTING that all type of riders stick around Ducati Pani forum and not depart to others like BMW, Aprilla, Yamaha, or Honda.

or maybe some do but still stay around or come back.

I for one enjoy Ducati folks and # of dealers around compared to others except maybe Japanese bikes. I even think Ducati do best for Ducati fans like in WSBK events or World Ducati Week in Italy.

I do hear good news with DNA but also difficult times with them... regardless, it hurts to hear folks with problems...

...... deal sorry to hear that Mike. I know all too well of what you're going thru, my old 1199s was at the dealer for 10 months with issues. Long story. Got so turned off ducs I had to take a couple years off. Got my 1299 and had it for under a year as I had to free up so cash. I got a cheap r6 now do get my fix at the track and I'm way faster in it then u ever was in the 1299. Part of it is I'm probably not skilled enough to get the most out of it but I'm not slow by any means. Also didn't want to chance putting a 20k bike into the gravel. And of course like someone said I felt like I was riding on borrowed time.

My next bike will be a 15/16 r1 (took one on a demo and loved) I love trying different bikes we are only here once, gotta try and experience as much as I can. Another thing with the duc was the constant money I wanted to dump onto it on upgrades lol... All good if I was making some serious cash but that's not the case. Had 5 ducs in the past but I don't think I'll be going back.

Hope it all works out for you mike.

Sounds like the weak link is either dealers involved or DNA.
I've owned multiple new Ducatis since mid 90s. None have been trouble free, and
it does seem that the least reliable have been in the last 5-10 years.
One thing has been constant throughout, and that has been the decent back up from Ducati
here in Europe.
I don't want to go into the hassles I had with my 15R, but my sig shows how Ducati stepped up to the plate in the end.
Really feel for the OP and the lack of support he has received.

Fragile. I've ridden mine hard soft and everywhere in between and every single time it breaks. You are correct it makes no matter how you ride a sport bike.

Lethal I used to feel that way about her. But not anymore.

Reg. Not sure yet. We shall see.

come on mike all that know you know its the new r1 admit it already :D

990Glen. its not the dealer when they requested a new ECU and to tear the engine open to find out what to fix and both times DNA Rep said no fill it up with oil and run it..

Mark shhhhh too early to say

Sorry to hear that man. I am on my 3rd Panigale

1199 (2012 )- 11K Miles
1) Stalled 3 times before the first service. No issues after TPS reset during first service.
2) hard Starts - CC removed and TPS reset fixed issue by Ducati
3) Recalls -Turn signal switch, Steering Dampner and bowden cable all fixed by TSB's
4) Front cylinder head leaked from bolts backing off Ducati fixed under warranty
5) jerky throttle - Remapped throttle to 1/4 turn and custom F/A tune with Rexxer also had custom engine tune.

No problems after the first 1500 miles

1299s (2015) (10K miles)
Not one Issue

Panigale R (2.5K miles)
Not one issue

@ScrapperX

The Jerky Throttle - After the Rexxer tune, did it smooth out that jerkyness? I have a weird curve around 3500-4000RPM. Hard to maintenance throttle on 2nd gear at the track.

Sucks to hear this. I'm fortunate that the only real issue that I had that was hard to resolve was kind of expected after what I put my first bike through.

As for the 'too much oil', nearly every single dealer overfills the crankcase. Sometimes by as much as a quart. I started thinking that perhaps since everyone does it there was a legitimate reason they knew about that we didn't.

I was wondering the same.. That's why I always checked it lol..

B9009B.....I am sorry to hear about your problems, sounds like a nightmare.

I guess I have been lucky as i have had 9 Ducatis and the only one to give me problems was the Darmah in 78 and that was electrical a very common problem back then amongst all Ducati's.

Sometimes you have to remember Ducati is a very small company, I believe they set a record last year by selling 50,000 bikes and they are Italian, so getting things to happen can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes.

Dont give up on the brand yet, try and hang in there with a bit of faith, difficult I know considering what you have been through, but you can be sure there are problems with every bike manufacturer out there and oil leaks and other things are very common with lots of brands.

I wish you best of luck with it all and I really hope you get it sorted.

Small is an understatement. I wasn't allowed to go into the Corse section (the basement), but it seemed that the entire factory was only slightly bigger than a SAMS Club. They did mention that QC is better now and showed some of the steps they've taken to improve it.

yes it fixed the issue. I had the original Termi Full map which made it worse than stock. The rexxer smooth it out tremendously.
