My first Ducati breakdown

Why not to ask the dealer to put the old rear sets back. One month without the bike because of missing shifter is crazy. The dealer should do this free of charge and then re-install the DP ones when they get the shifter.

This has been covered before. I don't have them. And as the customer its not my duty to supply them with OEM parts to get me up and running. Its their job to do that. I called DNA and left a message last night, and plan on calling them back today and letting them know what I think of this dealership. Bike was picked up 21 ....... days ago now. And I know for a fact I probably won't have it for another 3-7 days AT MINIMUM! I figure that because I feel once they actually ordered/received the CORRECT part they'd then call me and say "hey, itll be a few more days" But that hasn't happened. This dealer has earned themselves a flame war.

In effort for me to be as impartial as I possibly can be I want to post a quick update. On last Friday (I think it was Friday) I got a call from DNA around 1pm. (Mind you I called them the day before and left a scathing voicemail expecting a callback the next business day). The guy (maybe John? I don't remember) told me he was made fully aware of the issue and somewhat tried to act remorseful.e explained to me that the dealer had in fact received an incorrect piece the first time due to a "Ducati Manual" error. Instead of a gearchange lever theyy were shipped a mounting plate for the lever. On try #2 the dealership again received an incorrect part and thats when they (apparently) contacted DNA for clarification. It seems the DP part #'s weren't matching what Ducati Italy has on file, so the third time around DNA said the dealership ordered the entire LHS DP Rearset and will then remove what they need, install parts on my bike, then return new unneeded parts to Italy for credit. I clarified that I was still pissed off that it was three weeks and would be at least 7-10 more days before they even had parts in (if its even right this time!). He pretty much didn't go any further. I was a big boy and said thank you and that I would then deal (haha NO) with the dealership.

So about an hour later I see Ducati is calling me on my cell. Of course that's my dealer. Service manager calls and says "Just calling to give you an update" (I mean 3 weeks without my bike thats about time, right?) He was about to explain everything when I told him DNA clarified their problems already he said he was hoping for 5-7 days to get the parts in. I again exclaimed that I was very disappointed I had no bike and he said they're doing everything they can to get me "on the road" quickly.

Tomorrow makes 4 weeks I haven't been able to ride the bike. A whole month because of a stunod who can't install parts correctly. I think I've now earned the right to be extremely beyond pissed-the-....-off.

Although DP Rearsets are an "aftermarket accessory" they are made by the OEM and I think If I truly wanted to get rid of the bike and got a damn good attorney I could force a buyback. I'm not going that route but its sad this has happened. They've lost the potential of 30-40 more years of Ducati purchases all over a lack of customer service.

"3 unsuccessful repairs or 20 calendar days out of service within shorter of 2 years or 18,000 miles. Leased Motorcycles are covered."

Rather than post a new thread (this ones enough) I just want to share that my sales experience was never an issue. Straight to the point, delivery was a breeze, they would stay on the phone two hours past closing with the bank to make the sale if necessary. They did with my friend who picked up a base last August and I can't complain about my sales experience. Unfortunately the salesman who sold me my Multi last August and this Pani in December no longer works there so no sales people feel the squeeze to satisfy a customer. Because Al wouldn't have let this .... happen. Guy was a retired North Jersey cop and didn't take no .... from management when it came to customer satisfaction. Even service has its ups. For both my bikes first services they picked up my bikes from my house the day after I called and got my services done quick. Just this issue and a big overcharge a few months ago have killed our relationship.

No need for anyone to bump this thread any higher, I just wanted to put everything on record for when I email the Dealership owner/owners this thread URL.

Anyone in the NJ/PA/NY area that wants to meet sometime in early August PM me. I believe DarioDuc and I will meet up once I get my bike back.

Ride into the sunset and enjoy the bike!!! :D

Glad to hear you're back on two wheels. Hopefully the dealership tries to make it right with you at some point ... if you even decide to go back, that is.

Safe riding.

I will say one thing- the white is definitely not as photogenic as the red IMO. Still better looking though, FROSTY.

I agree, but I'm happy you finally got your bike back. Hopefully, no more issues. Enjoy it...

Hey, hey, hey no editing quotes around here! Oh I'll enjoy it. Gonna be a long day of work tomorrow and the weekend I'm free!!! :)

+1...and work on those chicken strips:D ;)

Hey, had I ended up selling the bike they would've been a free bonus ;-)

I know. The tire is semi new though- first one caught a nail. This one only has about 400 around town miles on it. I promise I'll work on it.

If you are only riding on the street there's nothing wrong with having some insurance room on your tyres.... too many unknowns around every corner...

I think it looks awesome.....how was the ride ???

Well, short. I ended up driving up there at 5 with my truck before they closed, left my truck there, sped home, grabbed a bite to eat then a coworker who left work by my house picked me up and dropped me at the dealership to drive my truck home. I plan on taking a ride up to the Watchung Reservation this upcoming weekend. I've hear its a beautiful area to ride.

No track. Not yet. Not sure if I'll hit one this year. This being my first sport/superbike I think its best I get 100% of the feel for her on the street first.

I've always been a big pussy behind the wheel of a car and behind a bike. Working on changing that.

If you have a track in your area that sponsors practice days which allows you to ask experienced riders to show you the ropes vs. having to duel it out with a bunch of dick slapping guys who want to show off, go for it.
That's how I learned to trust my bike's capabilities and improve my skills in an environment way safer than the street. :D

This is exactly why i dont let dealers install simple .... on my bikes. If it isnt going to void your warranty, install it yourself, and still do it if it will sometimes. :p Thats always been my philosophy.

Ditto !!

Same thing happened to me and I have Ducabike but I didn't loose the bolt

Well, I always read about it and now I will admit to the forum that it happened to me this past Sunday. Mark rode down from NYC and had an incident with his Ducabike rear set bolt coming so loose it almost came out.

Then while riding with him Sunday I went to shift into first at a light and the shift lever went straight off and after pulling over and looking at it my Ducabike linkage bolt came right off the rear set and was hanging down just as Mundman stated above.I also didnt lose the bolt and was lucky anough to just thread it back in and tighten as best I could. Limped home and put some thread locker on it and tightened it up. Will it happen again?

This is such BS with all these bolts coming off regardless of if they were Loctited down or not. To ride around with the thought of your bolts coming loose somewhere on this bike isnt the best feeling. Gonna write Ducabike about this, and maybe another thread on it all so everyone else with this issue can chime in and I can include a link to thread for them. Its not a Ducabike issue, but a dealer installation one and actually falls on us too fo rnot checking every damn bolt on ENTIRE bike each damn time you go out for a rip! UGHHHHHH

I actually brought up this incident with the guys at my dealership (Ducati Minneapolis) and they were kinda surprised to hear such a thing happen and felt bad for my friend here.. while they did say that they are not perfect, they ensure that such disasters don't happen and that the customers are well taken care of.

I would not move from Minneapolis just to get more bike time in a year and finally end up in a place with a ...... dealership which is gonna make my biking experience a nightmare when it comes to servicing. I am really fortunate to be in a place where I know my bike is in excellent hands :)

i might have said this before in a different thread but the ducati dealership in mpls on hennepin is probably the finest one i've been to. wherever i go, it try to visit them and it's one of the best imo (haven't been everywhere tho). Too bad I didn't know anything about ducati bikes when i lived in hopkins in the late 90s.
