New evo 2 software

Got to test the evo2 for the first time at Jerez this weekends. Weather wasn’t the greatest.
I can say overall, I can definitely notice an improvement in stability of the bike coming out the corner. Before I had some wobble esp in 3rd gear coming out of long corners full gas.
This is a good upgrade for track riders, not much benefit for the street.
Electronics is a huge part of these bikes and thus an upgrade to these aspects would mean an improvement in bike performance overall.
Scott Redding, BSB 2019 Champion and Ducati Aruba WSBK rider, rode my bike and said no issues but we didn’t dive too much into the whole Evo2 update. He did ride it at some point with no electronics at all, and destroyed the rear tyre in 6 laps.

That looks great man,

Tell us about the experience of ridding with Scott

Man, that’s awesome. I saw that tire on his Instagram and holy hell it was f’ed

I'm having the 96580201A DTC Evo 2 ECU upgrade installed currently. My local dealer (Motocorsa in Portland, OR) said that they haven't installed this service bulletin (Service Bulletin SRV-SRB-19-032) on any bike yet. They have told me that this upgrade isn't the same as what comes on either the V4R or even the new V4S. According to them, this is an upgrade beyond what those bikes come with. I don't see how they could sell a new bike with this pre-installed as this is for closed circuit use only. Installed after purchase (like the closed-course only Akrapovic exhaust) I can understand. Delivered pre-installed before purchase from the dealer, I cannot.

I was told that the cost of this upgrade will set me back $750-ish. My reasoning behind this upgrade has nothing to do with the features that everyone else here is speaking about. I have been assured by the dealer that with this upgrade my speedometer will no longer read "- - -" when I hit 187mph/300kph; rather It will instead continue to read the speed (incorrect by the usual 5%) that the bike. It will be really nice to finally not see those stupid dashed lines as I approach 200mph.

I haven't seen anybody else mention this feature of the upgrade. This is also perplexing because I'd be surprised if Ducati preinstalled an ECU upgrade to the entire line of new bikes that completely tosses the "gentleman's agreement" away and now shows all bikes speeds over 187/300. This makes me think that either this upgrade is truly above and beyond what comes on the new bikes (Like my dealer told me) OR they are wrong about what this is and I will end up unhappy with the upgrade and still have the "- - -" once I hit 187mph which will lead to a very serious conversation with my dealer.

As sourced from the Ducati website:
"The new Ducati Traction Control EVO 2 (DTC EVO 2) strategy is an offshoot of the Ducati Desmosedici GP18 and is already employed on the Panigale V4 R and V4 R SBK. In addition to interfacing with the 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and adapting intervention on the basis of wheelspin and lean angle, the software significantly improves out-of-the-corner power control thanks to a new 'predictive' strategy. Acting not just on the basis of instantaneous rear wheelspin but also its variation, it intercepts any loss of grip sooner and reduces peak wheelspin, ensuring faster, smoother intervention. All this means augmented out-of-the-corner stability, (even in sub-optimal grip conditions), higher acceleration, better lap times and improved long run performance.
DQS EVO 2 - another Panigale V4 R offshoot - reduces up-shift times, allowing the sportier high-rev gear shifts (over 10,000 rpm) typical of track riding and boosting shift stability during aggressive acceleration and cornering."
Plus the unlimited speedometer which is not a big deal for some of us. They just installed on mine today, picking the bike tomorrow or Thursday. Most likely I wouldn't feel the difference until my first track day in March 16th.

Man I don’t know bro.
Here is a screen shot from the 2020 V4S from Ducati. I think the - - - remains.46BC99E6-7221-4495-A916-5CEE53510920.jpeg

Evo 2 Upgrade
Enquired today about installing the Evo 2 Software and was told that once the software is installed it stays with the bike forever the bikes vin number is part of the process of installation and this upgrade is track only which is fine however ........the dealer informs me it instantly voids your warranty as its a race upgrade only.
If this is correct why do the 2020 bikes have Evo 2 software with no impact on warranty ?
I've emailed Ducati for confirmation before i pull the trigger

My dealer informed me that it does not impact my warranty in any way as it is a Ducati item installed by Ducati.

I believe the 2020 pre-installed evo2 and the ecu upgrade(96580201A) are different as you can find on Ducati website mentioning the upgrade fits on 2020 v4/s which would not be the case if it is already on.

The info for the Evo2 as an upgrade looks very similar to the info posted under electronics for the new 2020 V4. My dealer also told me about staying with the bike but did say that it is still covered under warranty because it is an Ducati item.

I rode it with the new software yesterday around the town. I felt that the bike has less engine braking between 14000- 6000 rpm, even if I change the EBC settings it makes minor adjustments. Once you get below 6000 rpm it decelarates faster. This creates less forces to rider between on/off throttle. Let's say at 12000 rpm you shut the throttle off, the bike doesn't pitch you hard to the front. I also felt that the power came softer under hard acceleration but to confirm I have to be at the race track.
The DQS 2 Evo is very noticeable. It shifts much quicker and smoother. Both upshifts and downshifts are better.
Anddd no I didn't try to check on the "---" :)

What are people’s thoughts on the evo 2 software without slicks. They say it is specifically for slicks at the track. I do as much track as I do road and just use the original SP V3.
Surely the traction control doesn’t know what tyre is on the bike or the grip level of the road and just acts on the inputs.

no i'm sure it doesn't know the tire but that's not how these systems work as i understand it. the system looks for tire slip based on the wheel speed sensor. The place where this may come into play is the comments that i saw about "predictive algorithms". Not sure they will tell us this though. Would be interesting to know if this is more about slicks than supercorse's on the track. I track my bike too but don't have a set of dedicated wheels yet.

I have also heard everything you said and I could be completely wrong here but the grip between the tyre and road could end up being identical on a slick and low grip track surface to a suoercorsa and high grip track surface?

Also I believe the new software is on the 2020 bikes that don’t come stock with slicks so that tells me if it is the same software then all should be fine.

I do think the EVO2 has helped shifting in the lower gears to be a lot smoother. It really felt like a jolt in 1-2-3 gears almost like a DCT in it's sharpest shift settings, but with the EVO2 software, I just more at least on the bike. Still stiff compared to the 2020s, but it's nice to actually feel the difference. Considering it was $750 and another $75 for the dealership time to install it, I'm glad it's not entirely passive and you can actually notice a difference on the bike. Cheers.

Finally I can give some feedbacks on the EVO 2.
First thing first, the v4R is a different beast than the V4,so some differences apply.
I made direct comparison on my DDA and the R.
I had a 2 minutes dead lap,but I didn't push as hard as this on my friend's R.
So comparison was on 2:05 laps.
Mugello circuit is a 3rd gear racetrack,so not involving very slow corners that would have stressed more the TC or Sliding Controls.
Surely S.Donato,Correntaio and Bucine, have something to show.
I am sure that the TC has an easier job to do with the wider and lower torque delivery.
TC is smoother and happened to work only in few occasions.
It is better,surely.
The quick shifter is faster and seems more racing oriented, but nothing I would die about.
All in all,I will install it into my base V4,only for one reason
and it is a BIG ONE.
The tires are wearing way less than on EVO 1.
This was confirmed also by another guy that was riding there, and not only by the R,that could have made some difference.

So go for it.....IMHO

What tyres are you running?

Both bikes were fitted with PIRELLI SBK SLICKS SC1 compound

I don't remember how many laps they had on the V4R,but I changed 2 sets on my base that day,so I could understand the improvement anyway.
