Hey guys,

New here, would love some input on DTC. 2021 V4 got full akra pipe with Ducati tune. We did cancel ABS on front, but the module is still connected and isn't throwing any errors. Took it in to Ducati today to run diagnostics, they said everything is fine and the sensors are good etc. I ran it on 3 last time out and was all over the place spinning up that rear tire, just couldn't get out of turns, didn't have a go pro. Got a mount for this last time out and equipped it, ran it on DTC 5 6 7, the TC light didn't come on the whole day not a single time, spinning up the rear tire like crazy. Ran it on 8, it was on the whole time snail pace out of every turn. Also, did a tire calibration but that didn't help. Like there's nothing in between, it's either all or nothing. I'm not the fastest guy out there, but I can definitely hang, with my new bike I'm getting killed coming out of turns just can't seem to put the power down. And not having TC on a 220+ hp $50k bike isn't very confidence inspiring.

Attached are some clips of it on DTC 5, clearly can see the bike vibrating coming out of turns and the TC doesn't come on once.

Theory 1:
After installing akra pipe and mapping with racing exhaust, affected TC somehow? I'm assuming I have DTC Evo 2 as it's a 2021, do I need to get EVO 3? It says something like "it can be used with standard or racing exhaust" implying DTC Evo 2 only works with standard not racing?? DTC 2 says "The software was designed to considerably improve the racing performance of any rider using slick tires or rain tires no matter whether it uses the Ducati Performance Racing exhaust or the stock one."

Theory 2:
The geometry isn't right at this time, waiting on some Ohlins forks from Italy (literally the last ones on the planet, big props and thank you to cycler for finding em) and new triple clamps, been a nightmare putting this together during COVID. The rear height is set high now, maybe it's spinning too much for even the TC to pick up?

Theory 3:
When on slicks, only run in DTC 1--4 as those are optimized for Pirelli SC1 tires? Read this earlier: "The DTC system levels are mapped to specific tires, in order to get the most out of it you should have it set to the appropriate level to match your tires or you're just getting a false sense of value from it. Level 1 is for RACE tires, specifically Pirelli SC2 compound race tires. If you're running those tires, put it in Level 1. Raising the TC to a higher level will result in the system virtually never activating because your tires have way more grip that the DTC system is expecting based upon the level you've set it to."

Just installed a DDA but I didn't know you had to turn it on before every session :) Next time I will, maybe that will provide some insight. Some pics below. Thanks in advance.

I mean are you sure its spinning up? Couldn't see any evidence of it in any of the videos. Bike movement, engine rpms, throttle input, short shifting, etc. didn't seem to support the rear tire spinning. What tires are you running?

Pirelli Slicks SC1 Front SC2 Rear. Yup for sure, almost came around twice coming out of the slower turns.

Coming from an R1, an old video:

TC is on pretty much the whole lap, with the duc, didn't come on once.

Well then I'd start with theory 3, as it's not just a theory, but true. You should have dtc at level 2 at the *most* for those tires.

Also just in case you dont know, the dtc system at levels 1-3 will not prevent high sides. So if your slicks aren't up to temp, or you just plain ham fist it coming out of corners, it will not save you.

I'd argue in that r1 video, the tc was way too sensitive or something else was going on. It was blinking in a straight line at 150 mph

lol, yeah, but the point is that it was ON coming out of the turns..

I just read in the manual:
DTC 5: This level is designed for riding on the road or on the track, consistent with ENGINE LOW operation. (I did have mine on ENGINE HIGH..)

Going to try and get out there soon and run it on DTC 2 see if I can get the damn light to come on, that should put my mind at ease and give me some confidence to push harder.

If you have the slick/rain tire update you linked above installed you can throw the information on DTC from the manual you got with the bike out. With the update installed DTC levels 1-6 are for slicks on a dry track and 7-8 are for rain tires on a wet track. I'd suggest starting with six and working your way down if you like.

You need to figure out whether that update is installed or not. If it is installed you probably don't want to be running DTC 1 or 2.

I’m taking it in on Friday, I’ll have them plug it in and hopefully they can tell me.

Also lowering the height of the rear shock until i get my triples for better geometry, that should help too.

I have a V4R race bike, I run SC2 front and SC1 rear. No ABS, upgraded suspension // triples, EVO 3, DTC 1 or 2 (depending on track, I am just getting use to liter bike), DWC 2, DSC 1

I am going to just say that you might not be taking the right approach here, I have a feeling that your DTC is working fine. What track are you at? what corners is this most noticeable? How long does a SC2 rear last? If you are spinning the rear out of every corner there is no way the rear would last more then a day. How big of a person are you? With DDA you will be able to go over your data and see where DTC is engaging. Perhaps the dash isnt showing you via the lights? I dont use the stock dash so I dont really have a frame of reference

Further more, its my opinion that there is a middle ground between relying on modern DTC as a safety conduit to going wide open very early out of corners and finding a balance of performance and maintaining a solid fast race line while hanging off these bikes keeping them as vertical as possible while getting on the gas hard...

we’re fairly certain it’s due to the rear ride height, tire wear was consistent w no weight on the rear, moving it back to stock and hitting track again sunday gotta figure this out!! lol

Ohlins TTX GP, currently set at 314mm with 11.5 spring, going to stock which I think is 310 w/ 11 spring will confirm today, I weigh 250.

314 is way too tall, I would assume the front felt terrible?!

310 is Ohlins stock length spec - which would have been measured on old tire dims for road - I assume your are using 125 / 70 + 200 / 65? That is what I am running with rear shock length at 306mm, keep in mind the new rear tire is 10mm taller then previous - 5mm on the radius
