on my way to the upmap

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Had my new map installed last Saturday by our local dealer Ducati Manila. So far so good! Midrange dramatically improved. Lower rpm range is smoother. Quickshifter is now more precise in engaging..a tad quicker in up shifting. And more importantly, my hardstarting problems so far have disappeared. I used my bike last Sunday and so far had no hard starting issues...Not once...so far! Good sign!

Well, I will observe...that's just about 4hours riding time last Sunday. But so far so good, as I usually have hard starting issues crop up during a 1-4 hour ride.

Last Sunday was problem free.

Hope that new mapping solved my hardstarting issues. :D

The before and after dyno chart on my bike showed no change in peak horsepower.

Who has said the up-map lowers the top end and on what basis have they made this statement?

Good to hear this !
My dealer told me they dyno'd a Tricolore before and after the upmap and where the low and middle gained some, the top end went down.
I didn't see a dynochart so no hard evidence on this....

Exactly the reason why i want to know the name / version# of the up-map to see if we are talking the same maps here.
Maybe EU version is different than US version ?

Looking forward to the report Xbox.

Happy to share my thoughts and impressions j :)

Firstly a note, the update erased my custom settings, not a big deal, but I should have jotted down my settings before hand.

So, how did she ride back....

1) Low-rpm - Idle to 2500rpm fluffiness has gone, making pull aways much easier.

2) 4000-6000rpm surging is much less pronounced. Even without EBC turned-up, I found the bike much smoother on/off the throttle around these speeds.

3) Midrange is really good. Was nothing wrong with it before, so I honestly can't say I find it stronger now.

4) However ........ the bike is way louder. My wife heard the bike way before usual, from within the house, doors and windows closed

So, its all moving in the right direction. If I previously scored engine performance 8/10, it would now be a solid 8.5/10 :D

Veeeery iiinteresting..

I'm scratching my head about the reports of the bike being louder.
1: It's fecking loud already.. would you say it is 5% louder? 10% ?

2: What contained within the engine mapping witchcraft would cause a Pani to get louder..???? My assumption is it is mainly a fuel/air/timing massage

dammit, I have questions..

1) It just seems more boomy I guess .... either that, or I was just ragging it that bit harder to see what the performance increases were all about  But then the missus did comment without prompting

2) I agree, fuel/air/timing changes, same as they claimed these would reduce exhaust temperature.

My Pani S with stock exhaust just had new map installed and noticed a few things.

1. I am not sure if the sound is louder. It feels the same in terms of the loudness, but I feel like there is a change in the beat(?) slightly - perhaps due to the fuel/air/timing change?

2. 3-4K rpm has better torque, but I usually ride around 5K and above even at lower speed, so it does not effect the way I ride as much.

3. The local dealer warned me that ECU requires learning period for the new map and the engine might shut down at low rpm. But, I haven't had this problem yet.

4. Throttle feels better (or more precise).

That's all for now~

the difference..

Holy. Cow.

From beast to beeeaaast. Torque closer to the previous models. Absolutely stunning.

Stock up on rear tires!

I had mine done last week, however it was in for the remaining recalls, and winter service, i won't notice the difference until maybe next year for the fact its going into storage for the winter season any suggestions on what to look for??

anyone know if this is reversable?
at least one member here and another on another 1199 forum mention that the change was worst than before

Surely the dealers are instructed to update all bikes as routine process.

If some bikes run dog after the update, there is obviously some underlying issues with those specific bikes that needs addressing.

I just picked my bike up from the First service yesterday in which they also installed the new map. The bike definitely has a different sound to it and the lower rpms are much better and my bike doesnt feel like it wants to die. I think overall the bike feel stronger throughout the powerband and It also doesnt almost cut out anymore when Im downshifting and pull in the clutch at the lower gears.

Just had mine done...my Pani has the full Termi exhaust. Anyone notice the bike running hotter??? In the mid 70's here and noticed near 220 degree temps in traffic and the bike never got that hot in the summer (mid 90's w/ similar humidity). I notice the fan is now kicking on at about 217 degrees...and hold the temp steady there. In open space it seems to "cool" off to about 185. Normal?

Mine always runs that hot, hell stopped in at the bank this morning, outside temp was in low 40's and the bike ran up to indicated 212 waiting for the deposit slip. Map didn't make a difference in that department. Made a big difference in the throttle feel and the mid range acceleration.

I believe that was the normal temp I was seeing before I switched the coolant out at my 600 mi service. I use engine ice on all of my bikes it really keeps the engine cool and it's allowed on the track. Some people say its over kill for the streets but it works for me and I never had a problem after all these years.

HFS !!! (holyfukinshit) "from beast to beeeaaast" +1 !
Just got my TC back from 1st service today. So it's had Termi slipons fitted, racing up-map applied, ECU update applied, rear shock re-sprung and re-valved for my weight.
What a difference it makes to the whole package ! I went for a 100 mile test ride and spent most of it wrestling the sky gods for possession of my front wheel ! It just didn't want to stay down! passing cars, between corners, hairpins, any excuse and up it went.
All the surging and low speed hunting and stuttering that was present before around 4500 is gone and in general the entire low speed range is much improved, much more torque 4-6k range - she lifted the front at 6k today between bends and she's never done that before.
The exhaust note with the Termis is not significantly louder (it was loud enough already) but is a much more mellow throaty tone and sounds a lot nicer (more lower frequencies and less higher ones). With the Termis seemingly comes a beautiful popping when using quick shifter - really nice. The quick shifter with the ECU update seems improved and the engine cut/gear change is both smoother and faster. When really on the gas the gear change is almost inaudible to the ear it's so smooth.
There is a change in off idle behavior: she cut out from idle while rolling which hasn't happened before - just once but I noticed it. Also I have found that blipping the throttle off idle has a much softer response than before with there being almost no reaction to a very quick blip. (195Lo)

Overall between the fueling changes introduced with the Termis , the up-map & update and the tuned shock this bike is now everything I expected and I can find not better word than 'flawless'(my perspective)

Love it after the update. Smooth and quick through all RPMs. The hesitancy the bike had in the lower RPMs is still there slightly but much much better than before. Quick shifter was way smoother and quick around 8-9K RPM. Did not get a chance to use it in the lower RMPs though. It was a 20 mile ride, back home from the dealer and enjoyed every bit of it.

I agree I love the update. I'm about 32 miles from my dealer in the Chicagoland area. The ride home yesterday was awesome! I didn't want to get off the bike. Who would think December in Chicago I would be saying that?

Good job with the update Ducati!

Just had mine done today. Down here it is a free update, but not a recall, so you need to take it in. It takes about 15 minutes and you get to save all your settings.

Well, I have to say, I was very happy already, but, now it is even better.

It does sound louder and gruffer, even more angry if that is possible, yet it is smoother. It still has the big power hit at 8k but now, it pulls harder from 4 - 5k so the transition is not as savage, so the low revs and mid range have been improved.

The fly by wire throttle seems more direct and precise and it does not seem to surge o hunt a much when at low revs.

All in all it is like a new bike in some ways, so very happy. Thanks Ducati.
