I'm looking at buying a new motorcycle. Panigale S or zx10r? Is the panigale worth the extra $$$?

if you try to compare a Panigale against any 1k Japanese superbike, it's not even a fair comparison, get the kawa. but you would never experience the joy & pain of owning a pani

If it's close enough that you have to ask get the Ninja. You'll probably be happier with the extra cash in your pocket.

People don't buy a Panigale for the "value" aspect. You don't compare an import to an exotic with cars. Same thing with bikes. If you're not on a budget, the SPR (smiles per ride) factor will be far superior on the Panigale. If you want reliable and boring, any Japanese bike should do. Yep. Boring.

If you love performance, handling, and a great bang for buck but don't give a .... about looks, exclusivity, art, and dropping jaws when you pull up...KAWI is ALL you!

All bs aside, you really have to want a Pani to get one. The "performance for the dollar" argument isn't gonna work here...

I got rid of the Honda because I wanted something I could park in the living room and stare at for years and years to come...+ IT'S BLOODY ....... AMAZING! :D

Kawasaki is about the last superbike I would buy, after Ducati, MV Agusta, Yamaha, Aprilia, KTM, Honda, Triumph, and Suzuki.
And even then, I would have to think about it.

What type of riding do you do?

Track, twisties, or are you a parking lot poser trying to pick up middle school chics?

I ride aggressive on the street, hanging off, on fairly twisty roads. I put about 5k miles per year and do a couple of track days per year, Barber. I want something I can ride and ride and ride. I found a new 2013 panigale s pearl white. I've always loved Ducati and wanted one but they are pricey and maintenance is also high. ZX10R has traction control and abs and when reflashed with exhaust will make 180+ hp but v-twin sound is like no other. Pani is lighter and more torque.

I was the proud owner of a 2012 zx10r. I fitted a ti graves with full Ohlins fgrt forks and ttx shock. I also fitted a kit cam with bazzaz and flash. Bike had 197hp. Absolute rocket with sublime handling.

A couple of months ago I got bored and decided I wanted something different and traded may 2013 zx14 and zx10 in on a 1199s.

The 1199 I dont thinks is as good as the zx with bolts ons as a road or track bike, but the satisfaction it gives me is awesome. I love looking at it . I can look at the side stand for an hour, the bike is a work of art. When you take it appart, the attention to detail is second to none.

Riding is it is different. I love the harder you ride it the better it gets. The steering and they way it leans and leans in a corner is awesome.

I got rid of my zx 10 to buy a 1199 but dont think I could get rid of my 1199 for a zx.

You've answered your own question.

If I were the OP I would test ride both bikes to help with the decision.
It also depends on what type of riding you prefer.
Looks, engine characteristics, cost and handling are the glaring differences between the two bikes.

Get both? :D

ZX10R is an easier bike to live with day to day as it does everything well. The Panigale feels more special... has more of a narrow focus on speed.

I've had both. Apples and oranges. As most have touched on prior......you don't get a ZX10r to stare at, to laugh inside your helmet just listening to it idle at a stop light, to caress EVERY time you walk past it in the garage, to observe random cars pull up next to you on the freeway just to try and figure out "what that noise" is you are riding, to have your wifes Mom say, "Now THAT, is a beautiful motorcycle".

All of that comes with a price. You simply need to decide if it is worth it, to you. Either bike, you are going to have some fun. :)
