R Engine Failure - Warranty Denied

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

One should be covered by the warranty for track days, regardless of how you flog the machine on the track day (as long as you have records of scheduled maintenance).
One will not be covered by the warranty if the bike has been raced, regardless if the engine failure occurred while on a track or driving to the corner store. Once it has been raced once, it is a race bike and the warranty no longer applies.

all excuses track bike race bike street bike. you build a bike you lable it R, you put it in world superbike but if i do a track day and your build fails its not covered. CALL JACKIE CHILDS this is lewd, vesivius, salacious, outrageous!

reminds me of the nissan gtr. has launch control but if you use it and it hurts the engine no coverage. then why give it launch control.

The "R" is a performance build, not a reliability build.

It is a Performance build, yes... no question, but with lightened and titanium internals that allow for 500 more rpm, it should also be a reliability build, WHEN it's not being wrung up to the redline every chance we get.

Not acceptable for these kind of critical components to come loose, racing or not. Need to check if, in fact, these are being pressed now.

Mark, The guy has used the bike in 3 races this year. It's a race bike.

I don't know how this thread got the legs it has gotten, but it has.

For those of you who think your street bike is a race bike, you're wrong. For those of you who think a race bike should be covered by some sort of warranty, you're wrong. For those of you who are confused by the difference, go racing and you'll find out in a hurry that a decent engine build for a Ducati costs nearly as much as your beloved street bikes.

Dayum!

NO ONE expects a race bike to be covered by warranty. Must check with dealer though, if there is an improved assembly for this.

So, nobody is going to get to the bottom of how warranties are a rip-off anyway in this thread.

Instead, can you provide info to owners of '13's as to any preventative measures that can be taken, and how big a job it is to get at this offending part and torque it down or replace with '14 parts? Worth doing?

Thanks!

I'm going to see if my dealer knows anything about this issue at all.

EvoL,

How did you find out the '14 motors are different? Did someone from Ducati give you that information?

Euro Cycles of Tampa Bay relayed that info. Anyone who's worried about theirs can most likely have their dealer contact them to find out more.

whats up buddy long time no speak. i know its a race bike all i am saying its no excuse in this instance for ducati to not warranty the bike. it is their problem its a known problem and it was redesigned. my call is its ducati fault. racing or other wise.

good luck trying to smoke evol s1000rr by the way

Mark, you know me man, just riding and working. My 1199 eats BMWs for breakfast, lunch and dinner, lol

Took the bike in for the oil leak, coolant leak, and asked about the Starting Reduction Shaft update.

He only sees ONE PART NUMBER, which means that it was never updated.

EvoL - Who did you speak to at your dealer that told you this about the new replacement part being pressed?

Lost the engine in my Cayman S (gen 1) during a track day. Porsche told me to pound sand when it came to any warranty coverage...mind you this was a PCA sponsored event. The expensive lesson learned...if you have a mechanical failure, all the manufacturer needs to know is it's broken.

A friend of mine wrecked her 928 at our track event, towed it to country road, then called her insurance because they don't cover track/education events :D

My coworker did the same with his M Coupe. Car was picked up 30 miles from VIR by AAA/tow truck. He answered the questions he was asked honestly and offered no detail. Car was fixed.

To be fair, I know of the following issues on track/race bikes that manufactures never covered:

09-11 GSXR1000's throw cranks like crazy at my home track due to an oiling issue, not a problem anywhere that doesn't have long straights, but the local track happens to have one. Takes out the cases frequently, go ahead and price those sometime.

Current zx10r, Ever wonder why the kit bearings are always backordered? It's because the stock bottom ends let loose frequently due to crap bearings

Current cbr1000rr. CPS fail so often most keep a spare or three handy trackside. Not fun when the engine cuts off at full lean. Lets not even talk about oil consumption

S1000rr gearbox was initially crap and tons of other niggling things.

None of the major manufactures are immune. It could very well be the problem doesn't present itself much under street conditions.

It's a gear inside the engine. Let me see if I can find a diagram.
