Hi

My new monster 1200R manual says the rear sag should be set at 12mm and spring length set to 158mm

Does anyone know if this spring measure means with bike on the ground or shock unloaded?

And does anyone know where the 12mm measurement is taken From?

Thanks

The best way to set the sag of the suspension is to put your riding gear on and for you to sit on the bike. You need some extra help then to take measurements. It is really a 3 person job. You the rider sitting on the bike to provide the correct weight with feet on the pegs. 1 person to measure and 1 person to steady the bike. If you google or youtube setting sag you will surely come up with something. I am sure Dave Moss would have something.

When I got my 1199S back in May 2012, very well known Ohlins suspension guru and they had me set up in about 20 mins.

I thought I would quickly check his site and guess what ?

Yeah I know how to set the sag etc I’m just trying to translate the owners manual to work out if the suspension is factory set or if someone has played with it and the best way to do that is to compare what you have got to the owners manual
