Should Marquez retire now?

Again , I can’t make this any more clear I’m Not a Marquez fan at all but you absolutely can’t deny the facts . He will probably go down as the best rider in the modern day championship era . People lie numbers don’t !!! Let’s face it No one is going to beat Agostini’s record ….. and I don’t think you can compare modern day racing to the racing of the past as way too much has changed …. But hands down Marquez is the best rider to do in the past 10 years . He’ll get 9 and maybe 10 as well . Todays race is just a reminder of what everyone has forgot about him!

He was loved when he came into Motogp because of how dominate he was . Then hated because of how dominant he was. He got hurt and now he’s back! He’s winning races and becoming consistent again on the podium because he’s a champion with a champions mindset ….. In the words of the great Nick Harris … “ You write him off at your peril !!” Anyone who’s foolish enough to think Marquez is not going to be a title contender next season is just fooling themselves. Until he retires he will always be a threat . All that being said I’m super excited that Pecco finally got his first (long overdue ) win !!! I thought Marquez was going to pip him at the end . I just actually expected Marc to do it as it’s happened so many times in the past . Pecco rode amazing well and held his own answering back immediately every single time Marquez tried. One of best races of this season hands down . I really do hope Pecco continues this form for the remainder of this season and carry’s it into next year .

I'm so happy for Peco and Ducati I could .... rainbows. Peco is so humble - man I think he really needed to own that and did. Peco OWNED 93 all the way down the line.
Now Peco knows he can do it.
The tires didn't fly to bits as predicted, he was waiting for the old tricks and answered each. So much awesome.
93's head games are not working like they used to. I'll give him this, post-race 93's level of human went up a few notches from his standard a-hole.

Sorry to pour cold water on the 93 greatness but Vale won GP championships on the pre-computerized 500's, 800's 1000's with Honda, blew them off as slave owners, won first race on POS Yamaha, took the pay cuts, developed the bike... The .... Vale used to come up with starting from P10 or P17 and winning I don't know how many times. 93 hasn't done any of that except come from the back like a wrecking ball, knocking people out of the way with illegal moves and saw no penalties for years. Vale used to dance between riders with flair and overtakes that didn't ruin other pilot's races.*** I remember Vale back 3 seconds from the front and cutting it to 2 seconds in half a lap. That .... was other worldly. 93's dominance has also been Honda's with all the advantages. I'll give more respect when I see MM winning on an Aprilia or an Agusta or a KTM. He might win 9 - I don't know, but GOAT he ain't. Not even close.

***Hang on, there was that one time with Sete Gibernau... (<--race finish)
I remembered Vale took Gibernau to the edge of the track which is perhaps the gauntlet dropped starting the Spain V. Italy, 93 picked up and took back to Vale.
Now in review I see it was actually Gibernau who first took Vale to the edge of the track and Vale just gave it back to him final corner. No one was penalized. Gibernau won no more races after that I believe. Back then, that was considered extreme racing. Then came Simoncelli hahahaa.

no, ya, that. MM has a curve named after him there.

Ouch.

#pecoownedhisworld

Peco podium celebration was like, 'Just doing my job.' That kid, so humble.

The reporters in the post-race press conference reminded everyone that 1) It was one of MM’s best tracks, 2) Pecco had never won a MotoGP race, and 3) Ducati hadn’t won at the track since Stoner (11yrs ago). I think these facts make Pecco’s achievement even more special.

I think the young guns and the law of averages (bad crashes) caught up to Marq. Anyone who thought this wasn't ever going to happen is probably relatively new to MC racing. Have you guys ever seen the x-rays of Marq's shoulder surgery - its insane chopping off part of his clavicle and screwing it to his scapula . I wouldn't doubt MM's resolve or commitment , but No one can do this forever. There was this guy on this forum a few years ago that kept running his mouth about how MM would win the 2020 championship and every championship after that I cannot seem to remember his name.......

Eh, i dont mean they arent phenomenal. I just think after years of the same bike they should try another. Makes for better racing.
Yea I agree. Mladin is another one. Mladin, Rea and MM all got the yawn at some point and the same criticism with regard to effect on the series but I guess there’s probably a lot going on behind the scenes we’re not privy to. Not a lot different I suppose than a franchise player.

Marquez will not change manufacturers until he sets the record for most titles (unless forced) , why would he?

he has seen how other great riders have struggled after switching and he has made it clear that winning the most titles ever is important to him

until he switches and wins a championship with another manufacturer I do not feel he can be considered the greatest rider ever. I also think this is important to him and his ego.

His use as of other riders as a berm has been repeated through out his career and it sucks he never gets penalized for it. It is also worth noting there was not any issue of riders in the top class waiting around for a tow while he was out.

Currently he has lost his edge and because of this he has pretty much lost his ability to intimidate riders like he used to. Same thing happened with Rossi when he went from being the dominate rider to not being it. I look forward to seeing if Marc is able to recover it. I feel ...... hoping he does not but the racing is so much better now without him dominating. Its odd that I did not feel this way when Rossi was dominating. lol. Guess I am a fan boy after all

I'm with you on all of this.
The thing I noticed was when Rossi was kicking ass it was great racing. He's just fun to watch, he's hilarious, on the underdog bike, always a good fight. Before he seemed to need a rabit to chase. He needed to come from behind. Winning from pole was not his thing. I have to look up the stats on that. He did get 54 poles. I'm sure he won a few of those.
The years he was down, it sucked until the last 2 seasons.

Marquez actually admitted yesterday that he is still hurting and is for the most part not having fun on the bike, next year is going to be a huge year for him and Honda

Bagnaia.Quartararo and Bastianini (on a 2019 bin bike) place in misano does not bode well for MM for any more walk away victories in the future. But we might get more exciting racing with all the talent coming up IMO

This is the MM93 shitting on thread. The Rossi one is another one.

Btw, what's funny, Rossi passed more guys at Misano than Peco who won.
Watching Rossi ride at Misano this weekend I tell you was truly a thing of beauty. That guy is so liquid. He looks like he uses about half the effort of the other guys. Peco looks like he's bending his bike in half cornering. He's all elbows, but dang he's good at it.

At this point Rossi might get lapped in a club race. He’s become a traffic cone.

Rossi: "with Bagnaia and Morbidelli, I leave MotoGP in Italy in good hands": "When I passed Dovizioso, Petrucci, Morbidelli I expected the P3 sign from the pits - joked Vale - and instead I was 19th;
