Some track day prep questions

Ducati have been using threebond for years on all their machines and still do in the factory ….

Can’t see what the problem is to fix by changing

As I said, this is the second bike I have had where the liquid sealant has had to be done again. I’m not saying it’s the end of the world or that it’s a poor choice of sealant. Just stating facts.

It might be worth stating again that the workshop said they have had quite a few V4 with exactly the same problem.

Hopefully, I can find out if Ducati recommended using this instead of Threebond or if the dealer simply finds it easier to obtain and Ducati are okay with it.

I had asked them to check the clutch as I don’t have the tool yet. They responded:

“We checked it. The entire clutch is recommended to be changed around 2,500km.”

I thought they might have told me the result of their check... I’m guessing they didn’t check it. Maybe it’s a language thing.

I should have known better than to ask. I’ll get the tool ordered.

Dealers really are useless. I believe I need to use them at least for servicing in order to maintain the warranty.

Should have maybe been more precise, measure clutch plate thickness.

But yeah, your dealer is just a standard road bikes dealer.

Normally I would expect someone to say yes, I checked it and… conclusion. They literally just confirmed they checked it and did not tell me anything else – not if it’s okay, needs something, might soon need something… Nothing. Just confirmed they checked it.

This is the problem… you are complaining about the dealers lack of knowledge but you clearly don’t know yourself, and you don’t know what condition of wear your clutch is at.
The dealer just want to change a lump of clutch pack and that’s that at what 300 quid plus parts and all the kit to do it.

I am saying at this stage you don’t need to disassemble the clutch you can see how much wear it has by measuring without removing anything.
That’s why it’s easy to do and do regularly…., if you know, or just put up with the dealer pulling your pants down!

I didn’t complain about a lack of knowledge. I said that I asked if they checked the clutch and they said yes without giving me any conclusion. Much like if you asked them to check the tires and they said we’ve checked them… and?

I was under the impression that you needed to disassemble the clutch to check the stack height, plates and perhaps inspect the basket. If it actually does not need to be disassembled, then I should be able to check it when I get it back.

I would be surprised if it has not worn a bit considering it has nearly 4,000km on it and about 3,000km of that was on track. I’ve not felt any obvious slip though.

Good grief. That’s not complaining about a lack of knowledge – that’s complaining about a lack of communication.

So, how do you check without removing anything?

Removal looks like it requires a specific tool for the smaller clutch that my bike has and the workshop manual seems to indicate that the plate pack must be removed to check it.

I can’t see how you check the plates / pack height without removal.

You are doing your “I know the answer but I’m choosing not to be helpful” again…

You are doing your I don’t know the answer didn’t ever know the answer although you don’t have a choice ….

I’ve added this information several times on here …

So you still seem lost and confused…
you can therefor see that depth is 5mm as a new clutch when it gets to 5.5 you can replace 1.5 steel with a 2mm one … do that a couple of times with a full check in between extra 1500-2000 miles before new clutch 🤷🏼‍♂️

And you can measure/check this without taking anything apart ..
