Cool story, bro. Do you have time to tell it again?I've ridden high powered bikes on the street my whole life. For two years I had nothing but an R1. Ridden in sub 30 degree weather and pouring rain. ABS wasn't needed. I will say it again. This bike has a rain mode for cutting power if you need abs you shouldn't be riding a panigale. 600cc or less for you.
This forum is so in love with ABS I have a feeling very few of you understand just how little abs would help in an emergency situation. If you are leaned at all abs won't save you if you grab brake. In the dry you don't need abs unless you ride like a complete moron. In the wet someone would have to cut out in front of you, the rider would need to stay perfectly straight and apply brake. Then most likely hitting the car. That almost never happens. Most riders try evasive turns or lay it down.
Honestly its amazing how many normally smart riders fall in love with a useless crutch and blindly recommend it. Its false confidence.

OK, didn't know the ABS was such a big deal.... will take under consideration. Thank you
The more I think about it, maybe I will just get the fuking R. Sometimes after some reflection, I realize how cheap I'm being. There's also some poser guilt knowing I have no business on a bike like that...

They were all very cool in there own way... strengths, weaknesses, etc
If it had abs I would have made the same decision
I felt the exact same way you do right now. Bought the R and couldn't be happier Just do itThe more I think about it, maybe I will just get the fuking R. Sometimes after some reflection, I realize how cheap I'm being. There's also some poser guilt knowing I have no business on a bike like that...

I know... I'll make sure to get it on the next bike. Never had it on a bike before, so don't know what I'm missing. It was so pretty and fun. Plan to raise the handlebars an inch, touring seat, puig shield and do some longer TX hill country rides that would have been brutal on the Pani. I wish the wife would agree to both..... I'll keep working on it
i think he already did it...
congrats, Bassalt! fine choice of motorcycle, enjoy it.
And the winner is!!!

Went in thinking I would get one Italian supermodel and ended up falling for a different one. I look like a big ape on all of them. The Pani was the lightest and scariest (sounded best too). It was also the least comfortable for my 6'6", 40yo body. After 20min my butt and wrists hurt and the right thigh was cooking nicely in the San Antonio heat. The RVSR was comfy and the best value. The F4 carried the sex appeal of the Pani, but seemed like the worst value. It was the largest of the 3 sport bikes and with lower rearsets may have been the most comfy.
I loved the look of the StreefighterS and it was the most fun to drive around San Antonio (by far). I didn't know until one of the techs explained, but this one was bling'd out with full Termi, better clutch slave, fender eliminator, bitty little blinkers, intake, dyno tune and 3k of carbon. Anyway, $2k off for being left over 2012 and paid a little more than 50% the value of the extras. I don't know how much I believe, but after I bought it, one of the mechanics said it had 20hp midrange over stock and 10-15 on top end. Either way, it's a blast.
I'll be heading over to the 1098S forums now. It's been great and thanks for the help.
