Suggestion 1299S <-> V4

I have the base 1299 and have done lots and lots of mods to it. All cosmetic with the exception of the steering damper exhaust, rear sets, doing a 520 conversion now and a 41 tooth sprocket and rapid bike. Within the next few weeks Ill be doing the front and rear suspension. Did lot of mods to my 2015 S1000R , more than I should have which include a full 2018 Akra system and the 2018 Akra gp can along with rear sets, rapid bike + my tuning , 520 42 tooth conversion and much more. And did lots of mods to my 2016 S100RR. I love the 1299 and will keep it. Love the weird look of the S1000R and enjoy riding it when I want a more relaxed ride. But once I pay off the 2016 S1000RR or paid it down enough Ill either sell it or trade it in for the Ducati V4s or the new 2019 Aprilia RSV4 that they say is coming out. But Im leaning more towards the Ducati V4s. Would love to have the previous generation Ducati sitting next to the new generation Ducati

I would not listen to anyone on this thread. Go to a Ducati dealer and ride a V4. These things are not cheap and you don't want to be kicking yourself over making the wrong choice based in someone else's opinion.

I personally owned a 2010 S1000RR and now have a 1299S. The both vibrate like crazy. 1299S is worse cause U can't eliminate it in the bars. BMW I could. I've not been on a V4 but I can demo one today if I want to.

All of these literbikes are simply amazing. Unless you are a pro rider it makes no difference which one you buy. Get the one that feels the best for you and your wallet.

Maybe I got lucky but I never noticed significant vibration in the bars on my 1299, and I have the motoscience mirrors (stock mirrors are hopeless).

No motivation for me to get a V4 for the street, the 1299 is the best streetbike ever made in my book in terms of power delivery. The S1000RR is fun as long as long as you the shriek it, but the 1299 is the king of torque

Oh and I would listen to wilkson, he knows what he's talking about

You don't have to be a pro to feel the difference between a twin and a V4. Its a completely different ride.

Finally got time to visit local dealer today and explore V4s in all of her beautiness. I’ve been hesitating to change my 1299s into it. Never had that before, always the newest has been instantly the coolest.

You know what. I think it might be the game changer for Ducati. But for me? Frankly, I am now a little disappointed. What the hell were they thinking leaving that front frame silver? Plastic stripe is also akward. Front is more aggressive with new intake openings, but from close they are fake with ”big” projection light under leds. Rear light is cool though.

F me. I went there to finally pull the trigger. But I could not. At least I don’t want to trade in 1299s now. Maybe V4s when I can afford to buy it without trading anything in.

I'll be anxious to see the r model. Hopefully it will look the part as well

They're both over my skill grade but 1x99 > V4 emotion-wise imo.

Go with V4 it should more comfortable and you get improved electronics with more parameters and etc. It's engine and exhaust get warm but not as insane like the 1199/1299.
Take both bikes out on a few test rides.

The v4 is noticeably hotter than my 1199R, at least on the street. When on the highway I couldn't feel the heat in both. But when going slow, the v4 is leaving burn marks on my left inner knee from touching the front frame through my jeans.

Yeah, this was the same experience I had riding the HP4. Knee touching the frame was hot enough to burn you.

Very interesting Nitrouz..
Would you care to elaborate?
Perhaps you've already done so, but I haven't seen any comments from you comparing your R to the v4

I'm still on the fence on the V4 aesthetics - it's modern but also looks a little "stormtrooper" and not as elegant as the 1299 imo. Anxious to see what BMW does with the 2019 S1000RR, they are finally dumping the asymmetrical "crazed cat" headlights, so it must be an upgrade

I hated the assymetry, but I have to admit it grew on me and is distinctive lol

It's not easy to explain as it's emotional... I compare it to cars I've owned. It's like the Nissan GTR to the Porsche 993 Turbo. The porsche is one of those cars that hint to you when it doesn't like what you're doing, and will punish you hard if you keep going. The GTR is when you can do anything you want and the GTR just says "ok no problem". You don't need to build the relationship... It's ok with whatever you tell it to do. But the porsche... You need to understand each other to make it rewarding... That's the 1199R. I'd never trade it for a 1299 or a panigale R because the feedback isn't the same. Imo the 1199R and 1199 superleggera are the last of the full feedback bikes from ducati.

Funny because the current Camaro ZL1 1LE will demolish both of those has-beens (on a roadcourse or anywhere else), but won't get any credit from the "elites" because it's a Camaro

I hate the looks of the 996 - just terrible - I would only consider a 997

I can't comment on the zl1 as I've never driven one. But when I was younger I remember always wanting the latest and greatest. As I age I want what feels better to me, understanding that I'll never be the fastest. I've owned a 1800hp twin turbo lamborghini but I much prefer the standard f430 manual.

Sorry I meant 993 turbo. I'm a few whiskeys in and got my numbers confused. The only 996 I'd even consider is the c4s. But yes... 993 turbo.
