Most people like to justify to themselves and others why their current bike is better than the new one on offer . If they weren't considering changes you wouldn't have to or bother .
I do it all the time but always end up with the thing I said was worse than what I already have . It never has been worse
ordinarily I'd say you're right. but the V-4 is a massive change. The 1198 and 1199 are quite different, but they've got more in common with each other than with a UJM.
When I get a full test ride of the V-4, no doubt I will find certain aspects to be better. And I am in a "purchase" year, based on my buying cycles. But it's mostly to state that very little about the V-4 appeals to me personally. Now, had they kept the monocoque airbox. If the motor made 100lb/ft of torque. If the styling was as much a home run as the 1098 and 1199 were when revealed. If all of that had happened, I'd be posting about the V-4 I'd have recently taken delivery of.
...and there are aspects of the 1198 that were sacrificed to create the Panigale, and I'm talking about the torque hit. That's gone forever, so those folks were right to keep their 1198s. My 1299 might make significantly more torque than the 1098/1198 bikes, but it sure as hell ain't as thrilling/frightening.
