Just got up close and personal with the three my local dealership got today.

Wow!! The details are just stunning up close. I can't get over the fork bottoms of all things. They said they have 5 more inbound and could get one more that's not spoken for yet if someone is inclined.

So with a full tank the 899 is just under 450lbs? Is that 899 weight with or without pillion pegs?

Motorcycle-USA.com did a shootout with the 899 and measured the full-tank curb weight (all parts on the bike) at 437 pounds.

Question. Is there any difference between the SL suspension, and the regular Road and Track Forks and TTX shock?(FGRT203 and DU930) Besides the obvious Ti spring on the shock of course.

And secondly, why didn't they make the suspension electronically adjustable like the S, Tricolore, and R?

Weight savings? I mean they took off like 2oz from the radiator cap on the SL so why not ditch the electronically adjustable suspension?

I think is it the R/T ohlins and the ttx with the ti spring, and the reason for manual is to save weight if I'm not mistaking

I think electronically adjustable suspension is the future.

IMHO, on the street you only need one suspension setting. On the track you need one for race tires in the dry, and another in the wet. However...

If I had a SL I wouldn't track it in the wet, I'd bring out a dedicated rain-only race bike. So that leaves you with one essential dry race suspension setting, removing the need for electronic adjustment.

Electronic suspension is the future, just not the ones found on the S model. BMW's DDC or Skyhook will be the next big thing once it becomes more advanced but until then a good manual setup still rules the track.

That would be pretty much spot-on with the passenger pegs removed. We got 417 with no fuel and the passenger pegs on, so dump 5 lbs. of passenger pegs and add 25 lbs. of fuel and you're at 437. In race trim, MUCH lighter.

Yes there is. The fork outer tubes are lightened, which you can see if you check out their sides.

As others have stated the sus is not electric-adjust or semi-active, to save weight.

Interesting, thanks for that info! I've always thought that color was the color of magnesium. I guess it's a FAUX color of magnesium! :)

No problem, I'm actually glad you thought that because the original point was to use a consistent color for mag so it would be easily recognizable as such. Maybe anodizing the ti a certain color would be a good next step along those lines!

I'm sure some lucky ....... got 000; IE a pre-production prototype. Having an SL with 001 is no special than any others, they are all the same regular production.

007, 069, 099, all the round hundreds would add a few $k to the market value...not like anyone had a choice....Who ever had one of these is lucky or hard working enough :D

doubtful and difficult to quantify.. #1 went to a really good Ducati owner. 500 went to Audi chief (so the audi chief definitely have a choice :). .

But seriously, several thousand to market value for a number down the road ? maybe for 007, but none of the other numbers you mention. Even like 100 or something wouldn't be worth thousands more than the same bike that was 101.
