Depends on the model, but an 899 weighs 417 in street trim with no gas. 1199S is about 8 lbs. lighter, and 1199R is another 4 lbs. lighter.

Interesting. Did you ever weigh a non-ABS base 1199? I know the wheels are ~5 pounds heavier, but the ABS is said to add 6 pounds, and the electronic Ohlins are an unknown amount heavier. I'm betting about 5 pounds lighter than an 1199S.

Motorcycle-USA.com's shootout had the 1199S ABS at 423 lbs with a full tank. Assuming gasoline weighs 6.2 lbs per gallon, a full 4.5 gallon tank should add 27.9 gallons, leaving the dry gas tank weight at 395 lbs, which seems about right if the SL is 366 pounds in the same state (29 lbs less).

Which would make my non-ABS base with Bitubo suspension, Termi slips and Rotobox RBX2 wheels about 412 lbs full of fuel, or about 18 pounds heavier than an SL (4% lighter). So I'm pleased to have gotten my bike as a leftover in 2013 for $16,400 and added about $7,000 of performance mods, soon to be about $8,000 with the Rapid Bike Race module getting installed this week. Aside from exclusivity, I feel like I got about 85%-90% of the SL for about 37% of the cost. At least that makes me feel better about not having one. :D

@Jarel - what's in the box strapped to the right hand side of the shipping cage next to the rear wheel?

That's the box that has the mirrors & battery. There's 2 more boxes that have the front and rear stands, and then a final box that contains the "Race Kit" - Akra titanium race exhaust cans, mirror block-offs, DDA+ GPS & Up-Map key, Kickstand delete kit, racing windscreen and bike cover.

Pretty cool box!

@Jarel - Appreciate the insight and the pictures!

Are the race stands any different from the usual red painted Ducati stands that I've seen available at my local showroom?

They're basically magnesium with clear-coat on them, it's a raw magnesium color, just like many of the larger bolts on the bike. Some other bolts are titanium, which is more shiny and silver colored. The shock spring is a sand-blasted matte titanium. I'm not sure there's a steel bolt anywhere on the bike, even the little ones that you wouldn't think would matter are still titanium, such as the pinch bolts on the master cylinders, etc. The little tiny fairing bolts are torx-head magnesium bolts. This is nuts, I just stand here looking at the little details going "Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.................." Homer Simpson style...... ;)

Jarel thanks for the thread, just to clear up a few things raw magnesium is a silvery-white color, the wheels are painted "magnesium gold" color as are all the other mag parts (valve covers etc). There are no mag bolts, the ones you're thinking of for fairing are Ergal which is a 7000-series aluminum alloy. But you're right there are lots of ti bolts, around 110 to be exact :D

Some details on the racing kit box - if anyone makes it to the factory tour, take a look at the containers that are used to hold the engine parts on their way to the assembly line. You'll see it's the same material, in fact the same supplier as the racing kit box. It's not black styrofoam but rather expanded polypropylene, which is lightweight and way more durable. Also an excellent insulator so one could conceivably use the racing kit box to keep some post-trackday beverages nice and cool...

We have number #1 in Glasgow, and I believe #500 went to the MD of Audi.

Interesting, thanks for that info! I've always thought that color was the color of magnesium. I guess it's a FAUX color of magnesium! :)

So with a full tank the 899 is just under 450lbs? Is that 899 weight with or without pillion pegs?

is that Martins one from Ducati Glasgow? I'd thought someone from Ducati would have got number 1 :D

That what I thought too! Makes me wonder if I was actually the 34th person to order. Should have said yes to Jarel 33 seconds faster LOL.

I dont think so. I think the guy that got No. #1, bought a second to use...

Can we see some dash pics when the ignition is on? Would like to know how different it is to the regular 1199 bikes in terms of the items displayed

Please of please! A nice little video, I was dreaming about this going to sleep last night wondering what it would look like, if there are any special SL graphics or anything....

I'm sure some lucky ....... got 000; IE a pre-production prototype. Having an SL with 001 is no special than any others, they are all the same regular production.
