I guess yamaha and everybody else is FINALLY realizing what i have been saying since the ducati days. 10 will never happen. results are getting worse and you need to actually win races to be hopeful for the title.

Zarco saying exactly what i have said for years. you HAVE TO be on a factory bike to have a shot at the title. I deserve 46 seat and it would be a dream come true. Zarco knows he is a better rider. Yamaha knows it. 46 knows its and all of 46 fans know it even if they dont admit it.

MotoGP?

This reminds me of the Schumacher scenario in F1. He should of left it, he should never have gone back, he should of left while he was on top.

This is no different. I saw what he tried to do, to get an Italian on top on an Italian motorcycle. I get that, quite a noble cause, just didn't happen.

Time to bow out.....
 
Rossi has a contract for life cause he IS MotoGP!


....Nah, but he has his Moto 2 & 3 teams to build, market and manage so he'll be around and involved.
 
Rossi is still competitive thou.

He hasnt slipped down the order into obscurity.

But there are other riders who are coming up (Miller, zarco) But they would be snd pick by the top teams against the bigger names.

Im enjoying watching Vinales out in front, rather than the Marquez/Rossi two-some. (I work with to many Rossi/marquez fan boys)
 
One minor flaw with that line of thought, Valentino riding around at the back of the pack will generate 20 times more revenue and 100 time more fan interest then 10 zarco's running up front. MONEY makes those bikes go round.

No, sir. Competitive racing and rising talent make those bikes go around and the money is generated from that competition. Valentino is an opportunity cost.

How many seasons of hype-train derailment are required before the 46 fan base starts to grow tired from blowing wind into their own sails? Every time he makes a pass people start talking about #10.

McGregor will K.O. Mayweather before Rossi wins another title. And I say this as a Rossi fan AND a McGregor fan.


Time passes and so do champions.
 
I don't know that much about motorcycle racing to understand a lot of it. I think it is impossible to dispute that at some point, you call it a day. I guess there are may factors that determine that and VR probably has more in his wheel house to retain a factory ride that other riders simply based on revenue. Rossi at some point has to step down. Today would be great. Problem is what if he goes out and lets not say wins a race but gets a few more podiums this year? now what? You tell him, "look old man, its over"?. His fans are just going to laugh and tell you that 3rd out of a 20 rider field is not "over" simple as that. Yes its not the best. No one is disputing that fact. If Rossi has to go and I completely agree that Yamaha needs a replacement, then 80% of the damn field needs to go. Its filled with guys who will only see a podium in pictures. Doesn't say much for the sport. There is a big difference between a guy who is not winning and a guy who cannot win. I guess Honda should have sacked Pedrosa years ago oh but wait, he is winning again. So yes, Rossi needs to give Zarco a shot but I still think if you put Rossi on Zarco's bike today, Rossi still beats 80% of the field so I guess my point is that maybe they just need to clean house all around. I say that because Maveric is not doing a whole lot better against the field or Zarco than Rossie is. Rossi may be in fact done in GP but he sure does have a lot of company. They should just have a 6 bike series and call it a day. To say that they are fielding a competitive series with 20 competitive bikes is a joke.
 
I think a lot of the issue is that most fans want to romanticize racing as just that, racing. The disconnect is that fans believe that winning is all that matters. The factories have to operate on the basis of profit being all that matters. Sometimes those two beliefs are in alignment. Other times they aren't. Rossi will be useful as a #2 in the garage long after his skills have deteriorated further, as it helps finance their legitimate title contender. Until such point that someone is simply more valuable than he is, he will remain that way until he chooses to walk away I suspect. He likely could take his circus to WSBK and not only clean house financially, but probably add another notch to his belt. But I think he's backed away from the desire to do that in the past few years.

All just IMHO and not to be construed as fact.

Rumor is Honda keeps Pedrosa because of his family connection with their title sponsor Repsol? Not sure if there is any truth to that or not, just what I've heard from some friends in Europe.

Regarding Rossi, how can anyone say he is done? Will he win the 10th title? Prob not unfortunately, but MAYBE. Look at his results

2016 = 2nd place
2015 = 2nd place
2014 = 2nd place
2013 = 4th place (1st year back on Yamaha from Ducati)

How can anyone say he is done when he finished 2nd in MotoGP the last 3 years? At a minimum he is the 2nd most competitive person in the world the last 3 years right?
 
What's the talk that has started? I'm no more a Rossi fan than any other rider but he's still at the top in terms of his riding for sure. The most obvious comparison is Vinales on the same factory bike. He blew everyone out of the water when they had the corner grip but the heat and poor surface at the Catalunya GP made it basically the same as a wet race hence the Ducati doing so well with its horse power. I really want Ducati to win but even Dovi says the mid cornering is not there yet. He won at both Mugello and Catalunya through horse power and very intelligent strategy.

I agree with you. All these ......s saying he should quit but he is still winning points and entertaining the crowd. Bunch of people who think they know better than Yamaha Racing. Go figure.
