Hi Peeps,

As I look out the window I can see the stars starting to align after receiving conceptional approval by the home financial administrator for a new bike. Its been 8 years now from my last bike :-(

Exploring the universe of options in motor cycles, the gravity and the sole of Ducati has started to run through my blood especially when I hear the local Ducati roll pass my house on the weekend calling out to me.

With a long wait in Australia for the 2020 V2, to be around March next year, it has provided me some time to do some research, looking at the Akrapovic pipe as an option, I can say its not cheap. With the bike coming in around RRP of 22k AUD and the full pipe system around 7k, I need to ask the question is it really worth the extra coin?

Not being a experience Ducati rider I am generally asking the question. I am willing to spend the coin if the value is true.

Would love to know your thoughts good and or bad or any other recommendations.

Thanks in advance
Mark

only you can answer if its worth it to you

what are your goals?

for most people the sound and bit of extra performance a slip on gives is the best value

the fact that akrapovic have become a Ducati dealer only item IMO makes them not worth it as you are paying full retail

Pure bling, nice bling, but on that bike it is not a night/day difference in performance, lighter rims and Ohlins would be similar money and better results if you plan on tracking it. If street only I wouldn't do either.

I came from a 959 and had the stock exhaust, plenty of rumble and grumble with that puppy. Always envious when I saw full Akra set ups, but could not justify the dough.

Worth it? At a third of the bikes price, that answer should be an obvious hell no.

That said, wait for a used set if anything. The stock exhaust is good enough for the time being.

I have a full Akrapovic exhaust on my 959. I rode it with a stock exhaust for 2 years before I bought my Akra exhaust. I picked up the exhaust slightly used and for a fraction of the price of a new exhaust. I love it but it’s definitely ear and eye candy.

should test ride it. the v4 does not need an aftermkt exhaust for street use as they seem to have figured things out

Wow, some great insight thanks guys.

As for my goals @vcyclenut they are as follow:
  • I do love the bling, the Ducati is one of the best looking bikes on the road and the sound always turns heads.
  • Mostly riding around town, as my son gets his drivers licence, we will need another set of wheels. Well, this was my justification for a new bike with the wife.
  • Feel the rush of blood as I twist the right hand sliding back on the seat and I do enjoy lifting the front discreetly when possible.
  • Weekend riding with the boys every few weeks and a track day once or twice a year.
  • Coming from a number of Jap racey type bikes I love the rush, but the sore back, wrists, neck and I found I was resting on the front tank a lot of the time so I did not ride that much.
Possibly a good compromise would be a slip-on, or I could wait for a second hand one to become available however this would require negotiations with the wife again and I may not be very successful. (My wife is pretty good but I do spend a lot of money on all my toys so she needs to keep me in check)

Maybe I should take a V4 for a run @CSV4 and not worry about the pipe however, I wonder if this could be a little too big for around town.

PS. Yes I agree it comes down to personal choice however, research such as hearing peoples different opinion all helps.

Thoughts?

Houston dealer had a new 19 V4S for 23,9. I imagine others do as well and if you can find a base you could probably get a real good deal. I've not ridden 19 but 20 V4S has better street manners than my old 899 did and is far more exhilarating when you twist the wrist. It does get a little hotter though.

@koolego frasers do sales quite frequently, check their website (30% off currently) otherwise keep an eye on fb marketplace/gumtree for used. Alternatively see if someone selling a panigale would part with their exhaust separately. Once you know what you want just wait for the deal to appear as long as you don’t mind being patient.

I pulled the trigger on the full Akra system before picking up my V2 from the dealer. They gave me 20% off MSRP and only charged $450 to install. Don’t get me wrong, still silly money for an exhaust. I did it almost purely for the look. The bike does sounds great, and it probably does add a little bit of a performance gain, but I just really like the look of the full system. That said, it make absolutely zero financial sense to spend $4+K on an exhaust system on a $16K bike. I also put on a set of BSTs. To me, Carbon wheels is a completely different animal; I feel like I can justify the cost of them all day long. They look awesome, but also totally transform the riding dynamics. If I only could do one mod, it would definitely be carbon fiber wheels.

Great feedback guys thanks.

I have found a problem with electronic on the Ducati's as they can stop working however, I don't see this being a regular problem ; -)

I'll put another spin on it, if I were to sell my bike I would remove the Akra and put the standard exhaust back on. Id get the same money and have an Akra to sell.

This! I got my Akra from a guy who did the exact same thing.

carpe diem ........... love the Akropovic slip-on and up map on mine. expensive yes but the sound is very nice.

i do NOT know if it shoots out flames............ hehehe doubt it.
definitely makes me smile every time i ride her. the sound is intoxicating.

Pin the throttle and shift it around 5k with throttle wide open, it should blow out flames and sound like a shotgun
