What are everyones thoughts on the 'NEW' 2020 V4's

You can also have the evo 2 software installed at the dealer so you can have a 2020 spec minus the frame easily.

DTC Evo2 and 'R' side wings only seem valuable and noticeable if you ride it ‘WSBK style’ hard, else its just an unused dormant rear slippage mapping and (ugly?) bling.

Additionally, the meaner looking Shark-fin side gills and the wider airy fairing, seem to be quite functional: enabling the hot engine to easier shed off some more of its bloody heat?
Hopefully this new setup finally mitigates clutch-fade issue in slow traffic?!

More flex in front section like 'R' and improved rear-suspension linkage for easier turn-in and feel, sound interesting.

I like the gills. Gives it a more aggressive look. I'm sure it helps with airflow n all that functional crap but i don't care about that. The wings on the other hand, I'm not crazy about. The v4s 2 posts up minus the wings.....killer!

I'm not sure thrill with wings either. I'm sure the wings can be removed right?

Spot on Ashes. I think there are always going to be individuals who are lulled into the notion that this years model is somehow leagues ahead of last years iteration. In this instance it's not so much a leap as a hop in improvements. Totally agree regards manufacturing costs. One set of fairing moulds fits all, job done. The "flex" in the 2020 V4/V4S front frame is simply where they cut two bloody great holes in it, as per the R, so even more component commonality. I imagine the accountants in Bologna are pleased. Three models sourced from largely one parts bin.

According to the project manager for the V4, it was 1 sec improvement at Mugello for the normal amateur rider. Improvement was very minimal for advanced and professional riders.

I'm not making same mistake again. I'll wait until or after 2022 before thinking of buying one.

I bought 2012, 2015, 2016 Panigale.

Dealership mechanic confirmed that the new R fairings, on all V4 Pani's from 2020 onwards, provide upto 30% better cooling effect to the engine. Because of this massive improvement, Bologna even installs a smaller waterpump on the 998cc R version compared to the standaard 1103cc V4(S) engine version.
Too bad swopping from original to R fairing puts us back EUR2000/USD2400. :(

And probably fixes a few other heat related issues all-together: http://ducatiforum.com/ducati-v4/38003-v4-panigale-clutch-fade-problems-3.html#post341444
If so, DMH is no longer obliged for R fairing Panigale V4 models and new V4 Streetfighter to 'mask' this heat struggle?

Can you swap out just the shark fin fairings? Or do you need the whole R set?

Based on appearances alone, the mid and upper fairing would need replacing. The seam between the two falls below the convex curve of the upper fairing on the V4/V4S, drawing the fairing inward. This also hides the seam from the front and above. The upper fairing on the V4R lacks that convex curve, instead continuing outward, creating a much fatter looking machine. The lower fairings and pillion appear to be the same.

Nope. Indeed as @Ashes replied.
Basically the whole frontal fairing from top to bottom, except top nose part.

In my opinion, the less refined "˜fatter' frontal look is compensated by a more composed side look with the  shark side gills. Making the overall V4 Pani look even more monstrously mean.

Guys, info required if anyone can help!

This OEM Ducati race kit (below) comprising of the new style panels is available but obviously requires paint.

Ducati UK won't confirm if the headlight will fit with the race fairings as apparently the headlight "blank" supplied with the kit is slightly smaller than the headlight itself.
So....can anyone confirm either way?
I would assume the headlight blank would fit the the standard fairings and vice versa? It seems odd that they would make different sizes.

The part umber is 97180781A

Also this Italian company (link below) is supplying the new style fairings pre painted. I would assume they're the same race fairings, painted and supplied with their own wings.

I emailed them and they confirmed they painted them at their factory:

I don't want to pay for the painted fairings as I own a bodyshop so paining is not an issue.

I would be very grateful if anyone has more info.

Thanks

Richard

count me in the annoyed group. I bought my S in May but was considering an R for the aggressive looks and bucket list of owning an R model. I went with the S because I primarily ride street with some track days per year. I’m now on the edge of trading for a 2020 R but having trouble pulling the trigger because this it’s purely an emotional decision and a bad financial decision lol.

Not sure if still on time for this answer, but anyway...

I got the blanks separate and it actually looks identical to headlight and taillight (S model) The back of it even has the holes for lamps and writings just as the OEM headlight.

Heres my 2 cents...

There is no logic in owning one of these bikes, in fact the more logic then the more emotion is involved. The differences between the bikes are pretty fine, you gain some here, lose some there. If you want an R then get it but any V4 will be awesome and to be blunt its unlikely you will lap faster on an R, you will have more maintenance but that comes with the territory.

I would probably keep the S, and spend the extra coin on a set of akras, aftermarket R style carbon fairings, a dry clutch conversion, BST's and an adjustable swing arm maybe. Then when its time to sell strip the goodies and sell an original bike and youll probably still get 50% or more on the go fast gear whereas they are worth nothing fitted on the bike. You will lose less than the changeover to an R plus depreciation in its resale.

Other people have kind of said the same but it was your post that really drove it home. Going to abandon the R route for now and focus on loving my S. Doing the math, for the price difference I could also buy a Streetfighter S or Diavel 1260s lol. Thanks for putting the sense in me.

I buy a new bike on average every three years mainly because the last 12 years has seen a huge advancement in technology and power. In 2009 I was convinced I wanted ABS and at the time, there was only one bike in the market offering that feature, 2009 Honda CBR1000RR. Then BMW launches the bike to change the industry, the S1000RR. From there it’s really been about rider aids as 90% of my time is on the street, and street riding is unpredictable with sand and manholes and other BS. My point in all of this is at some point I need to stop buying a motorcycle every three years.

My current ride is a 1299S and it’s a great bike, great for street motor but has one fatal flaw, the heat. So as awesome as it is, this is not the one.

The 19 V4 imho is not as sexy as the 1299. The 20 is a little better, but I don’t want the wings, but I do like it.

I got a really good look at the 20 last night and I was impressed. It’s better than the 19 and I like the wider fairings and better wind protection. TBH, my 1299 is too narrow and I expend a lot of energy squeezing the tank.
S
Is BMW the only manufacture doing consumer research? In helmet audio is growing, and I’m taking directions from my cell phone which is mounted on my ram mount. Hello!

Electronic Sus, Cornering ABS, Nav, heated grips, TPMS or better yet, tire temp sensors is what I want on my next cycle.

Which many of you will scoff at but let’s be real. 90% of the miles all these bike run is on the street, and I can still take that bike to the track and lap some of you Sunday riders on R’s.

The fact that V4 2020 now looks almost like V4R is very good news for those who have not yet bought a Ducati. For example, like me.
I have an idea to buy V4 base 2020 and add BST/Rotobox wheels, aftermarket Ohlins suspension (which is much better and more settings) and lightweight battery.
And for the money saved, buy used Akra and the ECU flash. It will be no worse than S. Even better. Are such ideas popular here? What do you think?

I got to ride the 2020 V4s last weekend at Jerez. I did the riding school with Scott Redding and Ducati gave it to him.
Overall, I didn’t feel the interruption of the electronics as much as before on my bike (before the Evo2 update). I had no complains other than it was a bit soft (electronic suspension and I didn’t mess with it) and throttle was smooth, my Bike’s throttle is aggressive.

One thing I’ve seen but can’t find definitive info on is the the Rev counter. When the dash is in day mode once past 7500 rpm the wake of the needle turns red. Anyone else notice this?

I’m pretty sure that’s an update within Evo2. I think the 2019 V4R has had it like that
