What Did You Do For Your Panigale Today?

Not today but a couple of weeks ago....

Too much time on my hands while I was away from work couple of weeks ago. Went for a short spin in the sun. After I got back I gave the bike a quick clean then on a whim decided to drill a hole through the centre of a Ti M6 bolt. Just for fun. Took a bit less than an hour. Result was 2.5g reduced to 1.9 grams. The bolt just secures a minor CF bracket so don't be concerned about the strength of the bolt being reduced. :)

curious bradp51, did you use more than 1 bit? and what grade Ti was it? was it a forged PROTI bolt?

Yes a Proti. I made 3 bits blunt to get through it. Lucky I have a bit sharpener. Also used a special lubricant for that job. Proti are tough little bolts.

What have I don't to/for my Panigale today? ...

Yesterday I picked it up and rode it home from the dealer. It went in the garage with 29mi total on the odometer.

Today I rode it through the forest and made some friends! One on an Aprillia, one on a Ducati Supersport, an one on a KTM Superduke.

Parked in the garage with 72 total miles... this bike is more amazing than I could express in words, but you guys/girls probably understand.

Aloha,
Brian

Sunday after I unloaded her from Saturday's trackday, she threw off her clothes once again so I went ahead and gave her the front DP blanking plate. She'll have to wait a couple more weeks for me to have time to give her the tail ones.

Finally finished my full termi install on Saturday and went for a ride. Huge improvement is linear power delivery and no more chopping and bucking during part throttle.

More black ti...clip-on hinge pins.

Working on these...

They are. I would prefer that they are not one time use though. I want them to make the round washer part a hex instead and remove the drive that typically breaks off the OE bolt. I think if a thief really wants to steal your bike a little M6 is not going to prevent it.

Holy cow, can you read my mind?
These buggers are a real PITA to get out. I would go the hex route and also replace the inner sleeves with Ti ones.

Nice work! How long did it take? How much did you remove for the full termi installation? I will start similar full termi installation myself soon"¦

Why don't you make a 12pt head?
Do you want to keep the mechanical lock? Are you planning to make it lighter?
I thought about that but decided it was better to have a hex. Most of my 12-pt sockets and box end wrenches have a slight chamfer leading into the socket/wrench. Because it needs to be such a shallow hex I thought it would risk the possibility of slipping. Having a flat allows the use of an open end wrench regardless. I was going to suggest they make both the security version and a hex version. It will be lighter only for the fact it's ti and not steel. It's an exact match to the OE bolt. Some material removed to form the hex. So yes, slightly lighter.

I would run 12pt and grind down the socket one or two milimeters.

I started to work on the e-lock back in October, then focussed on other things. I'll have to seek thru my piles of papers, maybe it would be interesting for you...

Longer than expected. I spread it out over 3 days and it took probably about 12-14 hrs. I also changed my spark plugs, tightened my valve cover bolts, and replaced my coolant though.

I removed the whole radiator assembly and loosed the rear subframe to make the job easier. The hardest part is mounting the new exhaust and getting everything lined up.

Not mine but the GFs 889. Got the short straw to take it to the shop as she was having problems with the gear sensor/indicator. The shop is much nearer to where I work and I only say short straw because it was p*ssing down with rain here in West Yorkshire today. Problem was, on the move, the gear indicator shows either: 1,2,2,4,5,6 or 1,N,2,4,5,6. In the second mode the green N light would show but although in second, the bike seemed confused what gear it was in and the fuelling was all over the place. At a standstill, it wouldn't ever show N, when in neutral it showed 1. It seemed to switch between these two modes at random on the fly. Anyway, good result, the shop were able to recalibrate the sensor. Just over half an hours labour charged. I don't get to ride that bike very often and, even in the wet, the ride home reminded me how sweet these 899s are.
