WhitePani down & out again- Oil leak

Cleaned it all up and went for a ride and the bike doesn't start. Stalls when getting fired up. Maybe a compression issue as well. Oil is back everywhere. Head/cylinder gasket may be to blame. There was some bubbling going on by a gasket, at first I figured maybe there was some pressure leaking from the gasket, but then I figured it was the leaking oil just burning off, causing little bubbles.

Dealer is picking up bike tomorrow from my house, and maybe I'll get It back before a month this time.
Either way, bike is going on the market, competitively priced once I get it back. I may get a 2014 1199, or switch to the HP4. I just can't keep this bike any longer. The sour taste in my mouth for it just won't go away. Time to cut my losses and say peace to it.

I think you have given the 1199 a fair chance....I think I see a BMW in your future...

But my baby is just so much prettier than the HP4 :'( Anyone have a list of problems the HP4 is known for??

Yeah...being faster than the 1199:D

Just, the bang for your buck on the Competition is unreal. I shall see what happens. Moneys a big factor. And also the fact that all presale allocation at Cross Country is taken until June. :(

I'm surprised no one has commented on what the real problem is: it's because your bike is white, man! (I keed, I keed, I love the white.)

I hate to see you leave the Ducati clan, but I know it's frustrating. It could be that (possibly) all your issues are related to just one thing (or that perhaps the guy who put your engine together was in a rush to get home on a Friday).

Motorcycles are covered under the New Jersey Lemon Law, though. And there are a hell of a lot of us who have very reliable 1199s, so don't give up hope yet.

If you've had 3 unsuccessful repairs or if your bike has been out of service for 20 calendar days within 2 years or 18,000 miles, a new bike is yours. Keep all your records and, if what you want is a new bike, don't mention Lemon Law to your dealer until you've actually met the criteria.

Thanks Anti.

I know, you're at what? 23,000mi. now? And I don't think you've had any problems (minus the ....... who knocked over your bike). But at 7,000 I can't count the number of .... that has fallen off this bike. Like Frosty used to say- this was definitely a Friday bike. Irrespective of what this oil issue is I'm getting rid of this white bike. I love my white. But, in reality, the main reason I bought it was because a friend of mine had just bought a red base and I didn't want to be "that guy" with pretty much the exact same bike. I'll strip most extras, sell em on here, and take what I can get thats fair to me and a buyer.

Maybe I'll pick up a used Tri. Maybe I'll take a look at the F4RR (kickass lookin' bike, except for the headlight). I just need to get away from this baby- it ain't workin' out. Maybe I'll wait and see what, if any changes come to the 14's.
HP4 maye be out of the question because I'm sure they wouldn't cut me any break. $25MSRP +1400 fees, doc, tax title, reg. Can't go $30K OTD.... Ain't got that much $$ to burn. Anything will be better than this exact bike I have. Its cursed.

Like expressed earlier in other problems of mine- I don't know if the previous issues would count towards a Lemon case. This is most likely a loose bolt, and they'll keep if for 19, just under the law. Its just such a bummer how every couple of weeks I'm out the bike. I swear to god, even I'm starting to think I'm the idiot causing this ...., even though I haven't touched anything engine wise. Time to do some research.

22,800 and change. I've had a couple of minor problems, but nothing bad.

Before unloading it you might still want to get a copy of your service records and pass them onto a lemon law attorney to get their advice. As with any manufacturer, .... like this happens, but in my experience, dealers do everything they can to avoid a lemon mark on the registration (they have a bitch of a time selling it) and will swap out a new car/bike without much hassle so long as you meet--or come close to meeting--the criteria. Wouldn't cost you a thing, either.

Good luck whatever the case--hope you stick around.

See photos. Oil leaking all over the ....... place.
Ready to light this ............ on fire and call it a day. Beyond sick of owning this bike. I absolutely love riding her, and love staring at her even more, but this is all really pissing me off.

Pics coming in a minute. Anybody have a book of matches????vv:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Don't worry. find the leak and get it fixed under warranty. Then go and ride and have more fun. No big deal.

Oops sorry missed the part that it was a white one. Yes no wonder so much is wrong its the wrong colour. Get a red one LOL

F4RR? MV Agusta is notorius for minor provlems too. Its bit hit or miss situation. Do some research first you wouldnt like to have another situation like the pani..

I would give the 1199 another chance. If its a no go then the new Aprilia RSV4 factory. You ll find many similarities with the pani.. If u like the V2- V4 feeling that is.

Its seems to me it would finally be cheaper to load the bike on a trailer and find another dealer in another state to fix the bike. Imagine if all issues were solved. If u like the bike its a shame to sell it..

Yep.

It still looks like a deformed half-wit because of its lopsided lights.

There's a big problem for you in particular.
When the bike is PD'd it will go onto the service computer to have a rev limit imposed at 7000 rpm for the duration of the initial run-in period.
I should imagine this will stop you from running it in properly, according to your standard run-in practice:eek::eek:
This in turn will cause it to not make good enough power and will most likely burn excessive oil for the duration of your ownership period. All 1199s will inevitably blow your mirrors clean off as they go past.

You will most likely regret getting rid of the 1199 for the rest of your life.
Especially when your at the local starbucks, and everybody else is oggeling the red 1199s as opposed to the HP4.

The girls won't get instant moist-ons over the HP4 like they do over the 1199 as you ride past because it sounds like all the other I4s out there. Nor will the girls randomly fawn all over you in car parks and want to flirt with you and chat you up.

People in general won't take you seriously anymore. Or less seriously than they did with your current white Pani:eek:

On the up side, you wont have to wonder about the brand, grade and type of oil to run in it. Also the imposed rev limit during the initial run-in period may help to ensure the bike's engine will be more reliable in the long term.

The HP4 is clearly the stand out model as the carbon parts fit superbly, and the ride control is also magnificent. Along with the optional blue wheels available in your market, it will look quite nice looking at it from the side, despite the deformed front end.
Don't bother with the S 1000 RR, as it's a very very poor cousin in comparison as a bike in its own right.

I'll let you know what I think of the HP4. My competition just got delivered to the dealer yesterday, probably picking it up this weekend if you want to check it out since your in Jersey.

Like I said from the beginning- my goal is #1 to get rid of this white devil as its cursed. Once its gone, I can become happy again. In better news, my CU is doing a credit app for a beautiful R I found for sale. By next Monday I may an R! Stoked. If I end up picking up the R, my S will be for sale immediately.

The only thing, Brad, that stops me from putting a down payment on any Bimmer is that hideously ugly droopy eye it has. I've always hated the s1000 for its nasty asymmetrical headlights. My absolute favorite lights are definitely on the S, by a longshot. Bright, good looking, all a man ever needs.

Good luck with the R man that would be a sick upgrade. I just picked up my HP4 tonight. I'm blown away by it, it would run circles around the 1199 IMO. The DDC is fantastic I felt like I was riding on air when cruising and firmed up when I pushed it. The stock seat is REALLY comfy not like the ....... .... seat we got on the panigale. Really out of this world. My GF feels the same about the front end..yeah its not the greatest looking from the front but man the competition with all the CF goodies, WOW when your looking at it in person. I can see a lot of dust on my panigale in the near future lol. My only gripe is you'd think they could spring for some HIDs on the thing, it is 26k.

If your that unhappy man I wouldn't rule it out especially since your considering the R and the price tag that has.

Sorry to hear about your oil leak.

I think when you buy a bike like this you should think differently about your whole approach to it. It was "Hand Made". Enjoy the (check overs) the night before and spend more time than you would a honda that are 98 percent robot built. If this is your daily driver it was probably not the best choice.

These bikes are best when rolled out of the Garage once or twice a week and cared after the rest of the week. I love mine with it's flaws and its Character that is like no other machine out there, except yours of course.

Well, I've got to say that I currently alternate between the SFS and the 1199s as daily commuters, and I love them both in that roll.
Having said that, I think i'll buy an 848 SF in the future for use as a dedicated daily commuter.
