alright, going to butt in here. Thats more like -1199. Not sure you guys realize that paypal buyer protection (and by extension ebay buyer protection) doesn't cover vehicles/motorcycles. .. . So having paypal for the transaction is essentially useless. ..

So not having paypal is zero protection, but having paypal is also zero protection.

7.3 Ineligible Items. PayPal Buyer Protection only applies to PayPal payments for certain tangible, physical goods. Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Buyer Protection:

Intangible items, including Digital Goods (subject to exceptions as listed in Section 7.6)
Services
Real estate
Businesses (when you buy a business)
Vehicles, including motorcycles, caravans, aircrafts and boats
Custom made items
Travel tickets, including airline flight tickets
Items prohibited by PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy or by eBay's Prohibited or Restricted Items Policy
Items which you collect in person, or arrange to be collected on your behalf, including at a retail point of sale
Industrial machinery used in manufacturing
Items equivalent to cash, including prepaid or gift cards
Personal Payments
Even if your payment is not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection, you can file a Dispute and resolve the issue directly with the Seller, however, PayPal will not find in your favor if you escalate a Dispute to a Claim when an item is not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.

Some of what you are referencing is carfax has a guarantee that applies on some items. But Paypal buyer protection specifically excludes vehicles - though not parts, etc,

About eBay Buyer Protection

eBay hosts the resolution process when buyers claim to sellers that their item was not received or the item they received was different from what was described in the listing. See below for buyer returns through the managed returns process on eBay. The on-eBay resolution process is the primary avenue for settling disputed eBay transactions and is designed to:
Help buyers and sellers resolve disputes in fewer steps, and provide buyers with a more familiar ecommerce resolution experience.
Offer an option to contact eBay if buyers and sellers can't reach resolution themselves. We'll take an active role in ensuring transaction problems are resolved.

eBay Buyer Protection Policy

All purchases by eligible buyers of eligible items that meet these conditions and do not fall within an exclusion or coverage limitation are covered by the eBay Buyer Protection Policy. Please note that the eBay Buyer Protection Policy applies only to the transaction—it is not a product warranty of any kind or a solution for buyer's remorse (that is, the item delivered was as described in the listing, but the buyer no longer wants the item regardless of the reason). The eBay Buyer Protection Policy is subject to the terms of the eBay.com User Agreement.

To take advantage of the eBay Buyer Protection Policy, buyers must first contact the seller via the Resolution Center and attempt to resolve the issue. If the buyer doesn't hear back from the seller or can't resolve the issue with the seller, the buyer can ask eBay to review the case and make a final decision under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy. In certain limited circumstances, eBay reserves the right to open a case on behalf of the buyer.

When the buyer and the seller involved in a transaction do not speak the same language, eBay reserves the right to intermediate the communication regarding the transaction between that buyer and seller.

When buyers and sellers are involved in the eBay Buyer Protection process, eBay may provide or give them access to each other's names, user IDs, email addresses, other contact information, and other information relating to the case, including without limitation, any relevant documentation obtained from a third party.

Buyers and sellers permit us to make a final decision, in our sole discretion, on any case opened under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy.

George, you need to quote two more paragraphs down from what you just quoted. . . It's very explicit in there. Not sure why you guys are arguing. I've posted the exact terms as per ebay and the exact as per paypal. . . So now you have the Ebay Buyer Protection exclusions and the paypal exclusions (which suprise, surprise are remarkably similar). . . You guys satisfied yet ? This is out of the proverbial "horses mouth" .. .

Quoted just a couple paragraphs down from where George posted at eBay Buyer Protection

Exclusions from eBay Buyer Protection

The eBay Buyer Protection Policy does not cover services and some kinds of goods; false, abusive or illegitimate claims; or purchases where you have been or may be compensated by a third party. eBay reserves the right to decide if items that are or may be prohibited or restricted by eBay policies are covered. The following purchases are excluded:
Items eligible for protection under eBay's Business Equipment Purchase Protection.
Items listed or that should be listed (under our listing policy) in these categories:
Real Estate
Vehicles (including, without limitation, motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats, tractors and ride-on lawnmowers)
Businesses & Websites for Sale
Classified listings on eBayclassifieds.com or eBay.com
Items purchased on half.ebay.com
Items purchased on the eBay Digital Music Center (artists.ebay.com)
Items purchased on eBay Wholesale Deals (wholesale.ebay.com)
Items shipped to another location after they had been received at the buyer's address specified in the eBay Order details page or PayPal Transaction Details page.
We may make available certain optional, third-party services that facilitate international shipping, such as the Global Shipping Program. The terms and conditions that govern the Global Shipping Program describe how buyers and sellers are protected by eBay Buyer Protection.

As an eBay Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Ding ding ding, and the winner is . . . Anthem? Dude you go all out to present your case and the facts. Attorney? RELENTLESS detail oriented super consumer? Both?

Nice work.

Yes VPP is eligible in ebay motors. There are exceptions for that as well (like you can't have made any claim in motors in the last 6 months, etc).

But here is the irony - you're not arguing against your original point (that there isn't any protection without paypal). Because guess what - now you're arguing there is coverage regardless of paypal.. . . so paypal is irrelevant in terms of buyer protection, right ?

For the record, this is what I was referring to. I have never bought or sold a vehicle on EBay, so I just know what I have read on ones I bid on on. :)

I had Ebay pay me for a motorcycle that I paid for in an auction (Bimota DB6R) from a Seller last year that was confiscated by local authorities. Fortunately, I had the Vehicle Protection pay me for the $22,000.00 I spent and for the cost of the shipping……

So what experience have you had with Vehicle Protection?????

None you say? Thought so.

I never said I did - just I personally would not do a trans on eBay without it, and it affords more protection than without - or so appears. I don't understand the debate here, whats the big deal if OP doesn't agree with the other OP - agree to disagree and let it go :)

Wow...the mis-information is rampant.

The way to do this transaction is to ask the seller to bring it to the new Ducati dealership in Ossining. Pay the dealer to do a pre-owned diagnostic and if it passes pay the Documentation fees to have the dealer handle the transaction and have the bike shipped from the dealer.

The real question is, why after 1 year and 500+ miles, can you buy this bike 60 cents on the dollar with $8K in upgrades?

Ducati better pay attention because when Honda comes out with its V4 superbike that is dominating Moto GP the Panigale is toast, R or no R.
