I don't mean to start any arguments, but just trying to understand.

There seems to be many low mileage 1199's for sale all over the country. Is it buyers remorse? Downturn in the economy? People biting off more than they could afford? All good reasons so far. Or is there something wrong with the bike that current owners don't want to admit as an attempt to hold resale value when they dump the bike. I have seen 1098 and 1198 selling for more than some 1199! Some 1199 selling in the $12k range!!

Again, don't get me wrong. I love the thought of owning a 1199 one day. Rode one for 30 min and really enjoyed it, including the 2nd gear wheelie! But is there some secret issue that I will only discover when I plop down a bunch of cash and own it for a while? Or after I come back from my service?

Down, boy. I say down, boy.

They are a race bike with lights, brutal, violent and stupid fast, with a hair trigger that second gear wheelie you got, they do it in 4th too, at lethal speed. They are NOT for everybody, not a nice enjoyable street bike you can day dream on. I love mine, this bike hasn't become boring, I haven't wished it had more power, or more ground clearance or more brakes. I think they are just too intense for most motorcyclists. Steve

Well said. My S scared the crap out of me. My R scares the crap out of me but I like pretty bikes...:D

Because the bike is garbage, the engine is garbage, the stock gearing, guess what? you said it, GARBAGE!
I'm listing my S and my R on ebay this weekend :)
Can't wait tip they are gone! But hey, its okay that two $30,000 leak oil, and its okay that 100,200, 300 or whatever number it is of other peoples bikes leak oil. But its just "normal" to the idiot "Ducati Defenders."

There are like two people who have had actual issues with their bike that don't really seem normal.....but they post about it all day every day. If you look at the name of who is making each post you will see that it isn't as widespread as it is easy to believe.

Not to mention how important it is to have a great dealer/service dept. Even in the car world, a bad dealer can kill a whole brand in its market/region. You have to be able to separate the cause and you have to be able to filter what you read online (or hear in the world, etc).

Otherwise, you won't want any vehicle, 2 wheeled or 4, you wont want a bicycle, and you won't want to walk due to health implications to your feet because every group has their alarmists telling you how bad things are and how bad they will get based on their experience even though it is one in a million.

Regarding why there are Panigales for sale, who knows? Every seller has their unique reason from job loss to baby on the way to ADHD (which I have, lol) to just plain old buyers remorse.... I had a guy buy my 850 hp Z06 and call me two days later wanting to sell it back to me at a 10K dollar loss because it turned out to be much more extreme than he expected. I said no, even though it was an easy 10K because I was on to something else.

People don't buy Ducatis with a carefully planned amortization schedule and fiscal responsibility. They do it with their hearts, wieners and starry eyed gazes. You don't buy a Panigale thinking it is a Civic. If you do, the jokes on you.

Just because you think it's garbage doesn't validate jack. It's one isolated bike out of thousands produced. Nothing in this world is perfect. You have your opinion and other have theres. If you have nothing good to say, don't say it.

I be a happy man when he leaves. :D

I guess to add to the question, seems like my local deal has many new ones still in stock. Did Ducati make too many? Before it was launched, there was issue of a shortage and you better hurry if you want one. But now dealers are giving big discounts to get them off the showroom floor.

I understand many people on this site are quite rich and buying these bikes are no big deal. But for myself, it is quite a bit of cash.

Btw, I just spent some time in the picture thread. And no argument. She is beautiful!!

Could be economics... Some people get themselves in over their head and are faced with payments they can't afford, or worse, have to solicit services to others for so called "modifications" to our bikes as a means of making money... Those are usually snake oil type salesman types who should have never got themselves involved in purchasing this brand in the first place... very low brow in my esteemed opinion ..

my dealer cant hold them in stock... they are pushing them out the door before they get uncrated... after a few words with them they have had very sparce issues with the many the have sold.. no leaks.. only some exhaust discoloring the fairings and that's about it!
its all about percentages... do your simple math.. say 100 of 10000 bikes... that's 1% you wanna talk bad numbers talk 200k bikes recalled from Suzuki!

Nice. This is an example of sometimes, the wrong people buy the wrong bike...

I feel bad for your issues, but at the end of the day, there are PLENTY of us owners that are happy with our bikes and feel they are as advertised.

To the OP, my feelings are that sometimes, guys buy a bike and it can be just too much. Not saying they are not capable riders, but that the bike tends to be what Ducati wanted and that is a racebike for the street. That makes it somewhat tough to ride as a street rider.

I personally think a lot of the owners will convert to 899s. Reason being is that the looks will be there, the soul and the ability to ride in a more reasonable fashion.

Also, some buy because it is their first sportbike and no matter if a Ducati 199, GSXR1000, R1, etc., it just was more than they anticipated...

People tell you right in their thread. There's 4 of them for sale here, is that too many of them for you?

Do Panigale owners really go to the S1000RR forums and ask meaningless, loaded questions masked behind good intentions? I haven't seen any over there.

I have been hanging with our Ducati group since 2007 and these folks own a wide range of models.
The 1199 owners don't seem to encounter a larger number of issues than the rest of the bikes.
Make sure you buy the bike for the right reason. For example, justifying the purchase as an inexpensive mode of transportation won't do
The bike is a challenge to ride, maintenance and upkeep are quite expensive, never mind the cost of accessories.
If someone would ask me if I'd do it again they would get a 'hell yes' :D

I laugh every time I see you whine like a little girl.

Because I know no matter what bike you buy, you will pull the same crap when it has issues in some other forum.

There's not as many as you think there are.

I live in a pretty populated area of the west coast, and I would have taken a good deal on a used one. I didn't have all that many to choose from.

The best deals are scooped up in a heart beat, I thought about one but he was small and had it re-sprung for a small guy. So no deal.
