Why are there so many 1199s for sale?

People are bailing on the bike hoping to pick up a cheap R or SL or something. Dont forget that 2012 was the first year they released this new design. Gotta love it!

We have as saying. "you have a good experience you tell maybe 2 or 3 people, you have a bad experience you tell 20 or 30." human nature I guess...........

I don't mean to start any arguments, but just trying to understand.

There seems to be many low mileage 1199's for sale all over the country. Is it buyers remorse? Downturn in the economy? People biting off more than they could afford? All good reasons so far. Or is there something wrong with the bike that current owners don't want to admit as an attempt to hold resale value when they dump the bike. I have seen 1098 and 1198 selling for more than some 1199! Some 1199 selling in the $12k range!!

Again, don't get me wrong. I love the thought of owning a 1199 one day. Rode one for 30 min and really enjoyed it, including the 2nd gear wheelie! But is there some secret issue that I will only discover when I plop down a bunch of cash and own it for a while? Or after I come back from my service?

Winter.

winter, warranty running out and it's a good time to trade into a newer model

I love this bike. I bought mine Aug 30th and I have about 3800 back road street miles on it. Riding it to work sucks, but that's not why I bought it. I'm at JenningsGP this weekend and let me tell you, this bike is fast as hell. A few tweets by the suspension guy and it made a world of difference. If you don't want your bike, sell. But stop the damn whining. I work on my own bikes, so a little maintenance doesn't bother me.

Move along boy nothing to see here. Its the Ducati 1199 forum. You should go back to the beemer hp4 forum.

Cannot believe you are asking such a stupid question.

(Yes there is a very big secret about the 1199 but we are not going to tell you. It was discovered in Area 51. Would you like me to tell you about the faked moon landings too)

FFS.

I'm sure there are a lot of people selling their 1199's. But probably no more than any other highly priced bike. I'm only guessing. But I am always looking for something fun & cool to add to the stable for fun and I see a lot of other bikes too.

That said, IMHO, there really isn't another bike, other than the HP4 that is in its class. But problem is that it (S1K) looks a lot like the Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki formula. It does look better, but still boring.

I'm sure a lot of .........s will pipe up with "it's not about looks and whatever else ........', but in the end you want your bike to perform AND look badass.

So sure, there are probably a lot of fanboys buying this bike and finding out it's not for them. What do you expect for one of the most anticipated bikes of 2012. I AM SURE that the same thing happened with the s1000r.

You don't have to worry about the expanding tanks with this bike (.... YOU DUCATI!!!!!! ) And other than some folks having leaks, it's actually been pretty reliable.

Check the forum, but the main gripe I've seen from me & others is the heat (true story), dash seems to fog (ducati covers on warrantee), some recalls (that Ducati willingly resolves). And standard first run headaches. (I haven't seen one person mention ones that ducati hasn't resolved).

I have over 4K miles on mine and I can truly say that I have enjoyed this bike.

Few Reasons:
Exhaust (stock) is very close to the Termi exhaust, so no real need to upgrade.
Tank does not expand because it's aluminum (.... YOU DUCATI!!!!)
It's fast as hell.
It's light as hell.
It's sexy as hell.
It sounds badass.
It's by far the most fun bike I've ridden.
It won't depreciate after the 6 year window that Ducati was forced to warrantee replace the expanding tanks (from ethanol), (.... YOU DUCATI!!!!!)

I'm getting rid of my S as soon as the wife gives me permission to get an R! Ha!

I've talked two of my friends into getting 1199's and they can't wipe the smile off their faces.

Love it love it love it!!!

And don't get me started on the looks of the 1199. There's nothing close!

Don't mention the twin towers on 9/11:eek:

Or for that matter, the Germans with the secret base they established in 1944 that's on the dark side of the moon.
The Americans know about it because they're the only people who have been there (other than the Germans of course).
But the Americans aren't saying anything or doing anything about it, because the Germans were helping them during the cold war to spy on the Russians, and they also helped them in Vietnam and Afganistan.
It was actually the German intelligence that tipped the yanks off about Sadam's chemical weapons.

Yeah, what he said:)

Oh, and (.... YOU DUCATI!!!!!)
Take that you ....... linguini loving .......S!!!!!!!!!!

I think know the answer to your question...

The original poster is in Toronto Ontario?? The bikes you see for sale around the GTA are from buyers who thought they could get insurance in Ontario and then actually got the wake up call...Only State Farm will insure new Ducs in Ontario and its going to cost u a fortune...

That's the only reason I can honestly think of...

I found another insurance company for Ontario. Aviva blew state farm out of the water!

I switched over to Allstate in the GTA/ Ontario area, and they also blew away Statefarm...
As long as you have a clean record and are over 30 and have a full M ,.. they will insure you

Side note, what are the Toronto guys paying for insurance? Ball park? My HP4 is $1400 per year. I would image the 1199 should be close.

Oh and are all the Brad's from Australia dicks or just the ones here? :D

I pay $1780/yr for 100/300/100, 1k deductible through Dairyland Moto and I have every discount they offer. When I first bought the bike I added it to my Progressive auto policy for less coverage than I have now for $2300/yr

But that doesn't explain it. I would assume you secured insurance before picking up the bike? And I would also assume people that are spending $30k on a bike are well aware it's a super sport that will be very fast! I don't get the "oh it's too fast for me " theory.

Things I reading are a concern. Like the issue with the stability of the single side swing arm and the frame less design. ( which is why the 899 has lost the single side swing arm). And things like mid range being very flat and torque less coated to ducati's of the past. And you must have the termi on to sort out the mid range. The heat and crap are not concerning me.

It seems like people are buying these bikes and are either not happy with it or can't live with it.

(Brad, you don't need to comment, I have heard all the crap I need to hear from you. Dick)

Ouch
S4RS and 1199R combined are less than $1,100 per year with 100/300/50 coverage and a $1,000 deductible

dang guys I pay 750 per year for full coverage with 500 deductible with State Farm. not sure how much my triumph is....a little less.
