I see Ducati is ending its financing promo as of the end of July (obviously I am unaware if they will renew/replace it)...

With this promo gone(?) will resale values recover somewhat from what appears to me to be very poor numbers??? Or is this just wishful thinking???:p

...lol's.....i'd say wishful thinking.....it is certainly rare, when you see motorcycle values go up......rare indeed.....at least from what i've seen over the years......

-- someone was talking about the 848 Hayden replica going up in value since he will no longer be with Ducati - i'd argue the best chance you had at it even holding its normal value was while he is with the team......but thats my way of thinking, and i never have done well with resale of any i've ever sold

No..You misunderstand me... I know values wont go up as such...but market is really soft...so I guess I meant will they be less soft..as it were..

Just because some stray cheap bikes have appeared doesn't mean resale values are in the tubes. I paid 16,7k for my base new, and sold it for 15,1. I don't think that is too awful. It was a fair price he paid for my used Panigale.

The higher end models are always going to depreciate faster. It's the same with almost anything. Thats why a Tricolore model will lose more value than a base in the same time frame.

The only way for Ducati to allow buyers to keep resale values would be to raise the price of their bikes about 8-10% per year. I base this off of Rolex, who now charges $8550 for a Submariner. This keeps used Submariners rising in value too, and keeps resale values going up.

yeah and selling Rolex in COSTCO must have helped too. aspirational junk...

You make a valid point re the Pani values..I guess when I see them posted on here for $12k I feel depressed...lol

The market in general for motorcycles is soft. Some brands/models here and there will have higher than expected demand but that usually gets filled fairly quickly (within a few months). I doubt you're going to see the motorcycle market go from a buyers market to a sellers market - so no, I think the market will remain soft.

And no - limited Nicky Hayden bikes, etc are not going to go up in value either. Especially since there just isn't that much demand for Hayden to begin with, and most people buying Ducati aren't looking for a Hayden bike.

If you really think about it - there aren't that many bikes that hold half their value after 3 years anyhow. The only ones that are really going to go "up" in value are ones that are a) extremely limited and b) you bought it used at the bottom and it starts to slowly increase in value. There aren't many Ducati bikes that are holding their value outside of the older rarer bikes and surprisingly recently the sport classic series.

From what I understand of the used car market, values including factoring in of previous discounts to sell a certain model. So if Ducati was giving away $1,500-$2,000 to get rid of 2012's, then all 2012's will have that factored into their depreciation. My MV Agusta was like that. MSRP was $23,000 new but because of the deep discounting to move them off the showroom floor, within a year they had a used value around $16,000.

However, motorcycles are not the used car market, much more rare and not a "necessity" that cars are. Prices are influenced significantly by demand for a particular brand/model. I think we see Pani's getting killed on pricing here in the classifieds, but when I see them on eBay they are being advertised for much higher. Whether they sell or not is another story.

I can't imagine Pani's not being as desirable as a 1098/1198, when they are ~25 lbs lighter with 25+ more rwhp, and service intervals are 250% longer. Those bikes appear to be holding their value well, so I would assume the Pani will stabilize and hold its value as well also. At least I hope so.

Don't buy a new cycle and sell in a year. Ducatis resale is a sharp cliff then valley. Look what 999s and 1098s sell for, just a few thousand less than a 1199 base!

Wait untill the warranties run out, then the prices will really tank - this is a complicated piece of machiery, especially the S/Tri/R.

Costco doesn't sell Rolex

They do occasionally. . . Costco buys a lot of gray market goods (from authorized resellers at a discount) and puts it in their store to up their cachet. . Gucci, Omega, Prada (many different kinds uber wine, etc) have showed up on costco shelves in various places. And they even get sued by the manufacturers as well (look up omega).

Yes, that's what I was going to bring up. Costco isn't an AD but they have gotten in trouble for selling them. .........

Actually I don't think they are doing anything wrong. And apparently the courts haven't decided definitely either with a 4-4 deadlock. Which means its remanded back to the region. So you have a copyright issue for a region but not another - which makes no sense. AND it only applies to foreigner product sold in the US and NOT USA made product ....

But realistically they aren't claiming to be a dealer and they aren't violating copyright. They are just big enough to target because they are doing this in a bit volume that some mfgs dont want. But theoretically if this was held to be true - then you nor I would never be able to sell a Rolex watch whether new or used and claim its a Rolex - which is ridiculous ...

Australia's resale price seems solid atm. I believe our resale is fair although there are only a grand total of 9 for sale Australia wide on our biggest motorcycle sales site...bike sales.com.au!

When will my 1098 value go up? I need to eat.

According to the site u can probably get 17 - 19k depending on the km's

But I guess ud have to have bought in the states for 9500 to 12k

Those prices are bat ....... Are suzuki's & yamaha's the same or just cus this is luxury.
