Wow that looks like a kickass track. I've ridden zero east /south
Thunderbolt looks pretty fun too. I like some of the smaller tracks, they're really fun.
In Cali, we have Laguna or course which is a dream, but, there's a tiny track called Thunder Hill that's crazy fun. Nothing but grass around it, no gravel run-offs, no frills, skinny pavement, bring your own everything. But fun as hell. Loud as you want, no restrictions.
Dude there are a lot of fun tracks on east coast such as Road Atlanta (one of my favorites, picture in my avatar is from there), VIR north (there is south course and also full which combines north and south 4 miles of fun), NC bike (if you want to work on your body positioning)... Barber is an excellent venue, it's treating me like redheaded stepchild because I always crashed there but I still love it. Pitt race is awesom...

I never considered T-Hill a tiny track? East Course is 3 miles...W is a little over 2...combine them and it's 5.... Love The Ridge's layout...Buttonwillow's a great track but...you want to talk about "the middle of nowhere." Same with Chuckwalla...but fun (and new asphalt this year)! I do think the chicane at the Ridge is a shame...that was a fun front straight!

@Bo13R

Oh man....your Barber is my NJMP, that ..... broke three ribs! Mr. Karl is trying to shake my aversion. I might have to sneak down to Summit when Karl goes, that front straight is super long....separates the proverbial men from boys really quick! I ran outta balls on my 959 4y ago...I wonder what stupid number I'll get now.

@KarlKani You got any templates of your plastics or you running the Duck graphic?

Laguna is a jewel - but a bunch of asshats built houses near the track in a place that was, before that, an artillery target range. So ya, it hadn't been "quiet" since the 1940's. So now Laguna has a certain number of allotted "no sound restriction" days a year to make peace in the town committees. Some are for cars some for moto, so it is possible to get a track day or two in with no restrictions.
Thunder Hill isn't tiny in its length, I meant it's in the middle of no where and not a big famous F1 track like Laguna. My point was, just that, it's a small operation but fun as hell un pretentious place and pretty easy to get to though off major highways. Highly recommended.
I ran off once there into the grass, and just road it out. I didn't know what to expect when I went wide, I stood it up just in time and ... no big deal. Just road a big U and got back on the track haha. I know many since who've done the same. They redesigned the "jump" a few years ago into something a little faster and less critical if you get it wrong.
At Laguna, if you get the Corkscrew wrong, it can be pretty terrifying as there is a lot of air after that last lip in the wrong direction. If you get it right, it's the most ridiculously fun drop there is. Rainey Curve that follows is acres wide, you can open up and feel your heart in your ears going down that hill. Best thing ever. blah blah sorry thread jacking. ;P

The Ridge in Washington is similar to that. Not a narrow track, but basically no runoffs anywhere. MotoAmerica had a hard time racing there because anytime someone went down, their bike was obliterated instead of having a nice runoff to gracefully slide to a stop. I only ever rode it before the chicane though. The chicane makes official races a clusterfuck at the beginning, but a slow clusterfuck is safer than the extremely fast clusterfuck turn 1 used to be.

Do other cali tracks have sound restrictions? I know Laguna does, but in shopping around for track days (heading to ACS the weekend after this upcoming one) I have yet to see any other venue talk about sound restrictions. Really pains my heart knowing it will be extremely difficult to actually ride my bike at Laguna, since it is a bucket list track for me.

I will be racing this V4R, 959 actually doesnt fit too well in the classes and is only really competitive in HeavyWeight SBK. That is why I am getting a bigger bike, we will see how it goes. Hopefully we follow suit with EU and 959/V2 can compete in SS.

Your guy on the white one is the only one I know of racing on this side of the country correct? Sorry forget his name

That old geezer's name is Kevin Callaway. We haven't seen any other east coast V4R's, however Mike Hilton races a very fast V4 base model with SBK eqt. He and Kevin have had some good battles at Road Atlanta and Barber with Kevin winning at Road Atl and Mike winning at Barber. The bike is no longer white:

None of the other California tracks have noise restrictions.
I know for a fact Sonoma and Thunderhill have limits because the V4 tripped sound at Sonoma . Sonoma is 103 and Thill is 104 I believe but not crazy like Laguna. IMO Thunderhill had a better layout than Laguna, Laguna just had all the prestige.

I just checked Sonoma and for the road course it says anything above 96 db they kick you out

That’s so crazy

Far as I know you can make as much noise as you want on the drag strip : )

I'm not sure when they implemented these sound restrictions. I ran at Sonoma & Thill with Termis for several years, never heard a mention of it. But it's been a few years. I got hooked on Laguna. I haven't been to Thill since they took out the jump on turn 5. That thing used to get my heart rate up. Ya, Thill is so much fun though. My #2 favorite in Cal. I don't know, Laguna is still special to me for all the PIA it has become. I have 1 friend and 1 acquaintance who crashed badly at Sonoma and ended with brain damage because of that wall. One was actually in a Porsche. I haven't been back there in a long time. It's not the safest place for bikes.

It is why i ditched the 959 platform and went to the R.
I will be all Loudon this season, maybe some races down in FLA this year and one in Jersey.
I will be at Club and NYST - hope to see you there
