Problem is only 2 or three here in NZ..

You're missing the point of the whole exercise.
Look deeper into the mini website.
You have to look beyond the paint and colour scheme.

Even the colour of the titanium spring is lovely.
There is a whole world of things on and about that bike in terms of material specs and manufacturing techniques/processes and surface finishes that are truly marvellous.

If the original 1199 got the red dot award, this thing blows it right out of the ball park in every respect.

The only change I would've made to it was where it's white on the sides, I would've gone with a subtle silvery tone mixed in with the white to give it a distinctive highlight. Sort of a pearlesence look to it.

What are you talking about? Not missing a point at all. It don't look special AT ALL. Not 60-80k special. I got it it has specials material and titanium springs. Subtle improvements look but again not 60-80k improvement look. I already said, no doubt it will be a awesome performing bike. Looks like you are defending yourself or convincing yourself about this bike. It's ok man, it's just a opinion... MY opinion. You can go buy 2 if you like. I'll surely take a free one if you buy it for me. Lol.

+1
I said I thought it was over hyped...that was before I saw it...now I think its been mega hyped... I would much rather have 2/3 more bikes in my stable than one of those..sorry but its just not looking even close to the build up it was/is been given......

I don't need to do that.. I will be able to put down the deposit without having to stretch.. A decent chunk of it is from insurance refund money due to me switching over to State Farm from Geico so I will be able to pay down the 20% at the end of this month.

My 401K remains untouched..

Already mastered the R huh?

The fact that you even mentioned using your retirement income suggests this is a poor decision on your part. Especially in Minnesota.

I'd rather live in Minnesota even though I don't get to ride all year round but the dealership here is amazing and their service quality is top notch.. I would take that any day over being elsewhere with a ...... dealer who will give me crappy service and I won't be happy at all.. my current job will keep me here for a while so I ain't moving

I have done close to 1500 miles in 3 weeks so I have had a decent amount of riding time to know how to handle the Panigale in traffic and on the highways.. all my fellow riding buddies who were apprehensive of me handling a Panigale on the street don't doubt my ability to handle the bike anymore.

The thought of me using my 401k was dumb I agree but that was way before my dealer even had worked out the numbers with the trade in and deposit etc.. now that all that has been sorted out, it doesn't need to be talked about anymore and make it look like flogging a dead horse

I suppose I fail to see how any paint scheme alone could justify the hype and a $65k price tag. That's quite a bit of weight to place on color selection. I would understand if the color was an obvious deterrent like a green or brown, but to say the bike doesn't look special at all when the only other bike to wear this paint scheme has been Ducati's sole MotoGP championship bike is somewhat perplexing to me. Considering the success associated with this paint scheme, I'm sure Ducati wouldnt take the decision of reusing it lightly and that in of itself makes it pretty special.

What price has your dealer quoted as MSRP for the bike?

$65000 is the MSRP. A 20% non-refundable deposit (i.e. $13000) required up front

For some reason I haven't gotten the email but my dealer said he could order one on my behalf but once he does that, he needs the deposit from me within 5 days.

Quick question, anyone on the forum going to Bologna to see the bike in person?

I was hoping my invitation included airfare and hotel:) I hope they will get a bike out here in the States hopefully somewhere in Southern Cal for us to see. I can't justify spending 4K on a trip to Bologna just to see a bike that I might not love.

For me, it is not "just the paint"... I withheld my opinion until I saw the final finish. Although it has special materials and all, I feel that it could've been better package and special like the Desmo but better. I guess it doesn't matter because I would not buy it regardless since base Pani and R are so a good package to begin with.

Feel free to PM me, but if you're dealer is working OTD numbers solely off of that number then I think you're going to be in for an unpleasant surprise. And he doesn't need the deposit within 5 days per DNA...that's his "requirement."

I am well aware that the OTD price will be over 70k with the tax and registration so if that's what you are referring to then its not something surprising. The MSRP is 60000 Euros in Europe and $65000 here in the US.

Ahh, I see. You were looking for some type of styling alteration that would more effectively differentiate it aesthetically from the others. That does make a bit more sense considering most of the more substantial advancements in the bike are somewhat hidden from view.

When I first heard reports of dealers not being able to take their eyes off the top secret bike I thought it may be possible that some type of styling alteration was incorporated into the design. This picture surfaced about the same time which led me to initially think this could be the direction they were heading

There'll be freight and setup fees that'll likely be significantly higher than the 1199 as it was for the Desmo. Add tax on that and it'll be thousands, not hundreds, more than the numbers they're giving you if they're basing just on MSRP. Add on costs to install exhaust, etc and you're into it even more.

For my 1199R freight was $495 and setup was $250 which included installing accessories and the full Termi setup. I think my dealer guys are quite nominal in their rates..

If the guy wants to be the SL and had the means who are we to hate on him or judge?? If he wants it then money isn't a big deal and he will be able to
afford it, that's none of our business and we should think its badass that's one if us is actually getting one. Good for you man, enjoy the bike, for the rest of us lets just enjoy riding the phenomenal machine that is the 1199, to those who bitch about the bike.... Get over it or move on

I haven't seen much hate on this thread IMO. He's the one that posted his original plan to use his 401k and I've seen mostly just friendly advice to simply take a step back to see if that helps gain some perspective that it's just a bike. In the same vein, I'm not trying to rain on his parade, just making a fellow forumite aware of potential surprises in total costs that could easily add an addt'l 5% to the MSRP. Since he'd just mentioned that he was juggling insurance savings to help fund the deposit, I thought I'd give him a friendly heads up. Don't see anything wrong in that or any of the perspectives given as constructive advice.

Sure there's been some needling going on but that's the give and take of putting personal info out there on the internet - you'll get some good advice and you'll get some grief. But at the end of the day I've mostly just seen advice coming from an earnest place. To me, with the the help of some moderating, I'm seeing this place become more of an online community lately than it ever has in the past.
