I've also recieved the invite e-mail..... :)

You cannot doubt that this machine will be one hell of an engineering exercise and will be top of it's game, period.

However, I already have immense fun and track days on my S (which none of my mates are able to keep up with anyway!!) but the thought of dropping it or damaging it always sits in my mind like a bit of a psycological barrier stopping me from pushing it just that little further. With that kind of prestige and price tag I'd be scared to start the damn thing!

More to the point I'm just not good enough to ever fully appreciate this bike at it's limit, I can't do that even on my S, it would just be wasted on me. Sadly my last name doesn't end in Stoner!!! :D

that is what I meant. I'm sure it is a awesome bike but just dont feel "special"...not 60-80K special I mean...

You're missing the point of the whole exercise.
Look deeper into the mini website.
You have to look beyond the paint and colour scheme.

Even the colour of the titanium spring is lovely.
There is a whole world of things on and about that bike in terms of material specs and manufacturing techniques/processes and surface finishes that are truly marvellous.

If the original 1199 got the red dot award, this thing blows it right out of the ball park in every respect.

The only change I would've made to it was where it's white on the sides, I would've gone with a subtle silvery tone mixed in with the white to give it a distinctive highlight. Sort of a pearlesence look to it.

Honestly the desmo paint scheme was Sickkkkkkkkk forrr the desmos! But for the Panigale ummm no! Orange red looks hottt I love it but I seen guys with custom paint track bikes look better.... I think my R PAINT SCHEME IS SICK ESPECIALLY THE TANK

Interesting.

I didn't like the paint on the Desmo but I think it looks better suited on the 1199:)

I think i'm inspired:D

Liquid explosion

Na, see there it is in the pic of the Desmo.
The stripes are boring as Bat ..... Bland.
It's nothing a child couldn't do with a strip of 1" masking tape.

The taper on the stripes with the 1199 SL as mentioned looks the business.
Subtle but effective. IMO.

I'd think that if they give private viewings they'l be open to customized colors. After all, it's not that big of a deal and it's possible with cars (I know BMW, I think Audi as well)

Best color to me would be the black like the first Streetfighter S.

Na, anything black will hide the shapes and lines of the bike too much.

And I also have a black 2010 SFS.
When you see the red and black 2010 models together IMO the black looks the business.
It all changes with the red frame on the 2011 model and the 2010 black looks a little off the pace.

You're dreaming.
Sorry:(

Or bayliss;)

I getting tire already let see: 1199 base, 1199 base ABS,1199s, 1199s ABS, 1199s tricolore,1199R,1199 senna and now this .... , all this in less than 2 years, ducati is really funking with our head. Where is the peace of mind of the people who like to have the best toy? when the guy who just got the 1199R have the impression that this is the best 1199 and if you buy this "your pennies is going to grow 3 inches" 3 month later they show up with something else, I believe the that bike should be the 1199R not something else and the current 1199r should be the tricolore. sorry for my bad grammar but English is not my first language.

this is What ducati want you to do:
FEEL SORRY FOR YOU $1800.oo bike because this is better:D

IS the same .... apple's do to his customer

This bike is for 500 high end earning people it wont affect most of us even "R" owners its a halo effect bike to raise brand awareness
most of the models above wont be with us for 2014 ie Base and S non ABS versions and Tricolore

Merged yet another thread.... Guys....We have a SuperLeggera thread ..please use it....:)

I don't think you can really categorize ABS as a separate model. And really the Tri is an S with some mods as standard and limited edition paint scheme. So really there's a Base, an S, and an R.

Back to the OP, I think most of us agree it's a fantastic bike. But can't help but feel it's more of an effective marketing exercise at this point tied to a WSBK EVO strategy.

It's a smart move IMO, along the lines of the Porsche business model. Start with the 911 platform and create multiple offshoots, each with their own target audience. Base 911, S, 4S, Turbo, GT3, etc. Keeping with the analogy, it's a practical move for them to create a bike like the Superleggera that provides supercar performance but not at exotic car prices. GT3 vs a Ferrari/Lambo. That's why comparisons to the Desmo aren't warranted IMO. The Desmo was more of an exotic car strategy with the exotic maintenance issues tied to it; Porsche 918.

Net/net is that you're always going to get the base 911 guys saying they can mod their car to be as fast on the track as the GT3 and the GT3 guys saying the Turbo is a cushy riding executives' car, etc, etc. Then you get the Nissan GTR guys saying the entire brand is overpriced and the Ferarri guys saying the brand isn't exclusive or sexy, yada yada.

Because we all care about the brand so much, we tend to pick it apart sometimes. But as was showcased in the Pani's at the Dragon thread, it was a beautiful sight to see the pic of all the variations of the models represented but riding together as just a bunch of 1199's.

Cheers

And one guy willing to use his 401k for it:confused:

For all those wanting them, like the desmo, in two years there will
Be a few under 5000k bikes for sale!!

I tend to agree, that in a couple of years you will be able to pick up a 1199 SL at the same or less price which considering inflation, etc will work out financially better ... if you have no problems with warranty etc.

And one guy willing to use his 401k for it:confused:

I don't need to do that.. I will be able to put down the deposit without having to stretch.. A decent chunk of it is from insurance refund money due to me switching over to State Farm from Geico so I will be able to pay down the 20% at the end of this month.

My 401K remains untouched..
