Tungsten is used extensively as a carbide alloy in machine cutters and also in some jewelry and in the electronics industry.

Its not something common in the automotive industry which is why I was wondering on where it would come of use..

It's used for the inserts to balance the crankshaft. Very heavy, so less is needed to balance. In other words, less material to get the same effect. Less material, less rotating mass, higher engine speeds.

"Some expensive, high performance crankshafts also use heavy-metal counterweights to make the crankshaft more compact. The heavy-metal used is most often a tungsten alloy but depleted uranium has also been used. A cheaper option is to use lead, but compared with tungsten its density is much lower."

Interesting use there.. pretty cool

You'll get the email. It's not that big a deal though and has no bearing in whether you'll actually get the bike. Ducati has criteria to determine who'll get priority as they, of course, expect demand to exceed supply - such as original buyers of Desmos, etc.

The bike is going to be ridiculous IMO.

Makes since if it is not based on time of commitment.

I believe the order of preference is D166RR, then 1098R and then 1199R. My dealer has asked for 2 of these and that's pretty much it for the entire state of MN.. the other dealers in MN suck anyways so they are nowhere close to getting these at all..

He made a typo actually and put my info in again so hopefully that should make it work fine..

Each dealer has a limit of 3 people to allow access to be able to place an order for it so lets see..

The bike will be unveiled on the site on the 18th so then we should see it in full glory..

is that the 18th October ?

Yes, they're trickling info every few days or so from my understanding. All of the artificially manufactured anticipation/exclusivity is silly IMO but their marketing department's gotta earn their keep I guess....Checkmate!

Not being personal but I think Acowisk is going through his mid-life crisis at the moment. His example is of a classic one and I do not blame him for it, looks like he missed out on a lot in his earlier life and he is doing all he can to catch up with what he could have done earlier.

I have a couple of friends that are no different, they are in their 40s and they do things they should have done earlier in their lives like say in their 20s but family commitments etc stopped them from doing it. One chap I know got divorced at the age of 48 and he just bought a HP4!

I think it has to do with a build up of frustration over time and it shows itself in different forms.

I always did what I wanted. Age or not. Riding motorcycles from my 18th on. 49 years and married for 25 years now. Yearly vacation to the US and we took the kids with us from baby on. Son is into kart racing, daughter paralympics athlete. I have some nice cars, nice wife, nice kids and an R now but it has nothing to do with mid-life crisis. What do you need to know more? Ha, ha, ha.

Well, good for you!

Read carefully what I have said in my post before writing things out of context - looks like the age thing touched a nerve ;)

At 49 I hope you are fit and dont have a big belly and are bald at the same time because that will look aweful on an R.

Or he has image issues and is fine with being in debt up to his eyeballs:rolleyes:
