Hi guys
Here is a wierd one for you, I bought a 2013 1199abs which was ex demo, went to check oil and struggled to find the sight glass. I googled it and found that I should be looking through a cut out in the fairing (new for 2013 vs 2012 model) and my cutout is not there!!

I take it this means I have bought a 2012 model under the guise of a 2013 model?

Not too happy at the moment, just thought I'd check if this happened on the later 2013 models before I kick off at the dealers...grrr

Not necessarily..... Is your VIN a 2013 model???

Well.
Did they "actually sell it to you as a 2013 model"
Or was that only your belief, that they didn't dispel for one reason or another.

You did get it as an ex demo, so it would've been cheaper than a new one anyway.
It's a bit of a grey area.
We need more facts.

As an owner of one of the first shipment in the country.
I couldn't care less if mine is a 2012 or not. The thing is that ....... awesome.

The only thing you are missing out on is the extra hole in the fairing. (really)
And in all practicality, it doesn't help all that much (if at all) with viewing the oil level.
You've still got to look through and between the gap on the forward side of the clutch case and the fairing.
Even with the DP carbon clutch cover protector fitted.

Of course, It's obviously another matter if the bike was specifically represented and sold to you as a 2013 model?????
Is that the case?

If the 10th character of ur VIN is C its a 2012 model. If its D its a 2013 model

Yes it's a C so a 2012, sold to me as a 2013, paid ex demo price (for a 2013) not a 2012! I friggin love the bike but hate the idea of losing out on resale/part ex value when it will be valued as a 2012!

You bought it... not much you can do now. I promise you all the paperwork says it's a 2012.

I don't know, I'll be checking at the dealers tomoz, bedtime now for me here, thanks for the input guys.

in the USA i think that would count in the lemon law if they put on all the paperwork that it's a 2013 (including the vin on the paperwork) and the vin proves that it's a 2012.
They should refund or give you a bigger deal. maybe add on a termi slipon or something.

I think here in OZ, it's deemed to be a case of misrepresentation.

I don't know what the implications are for that:eek:

Catman I'm in the Uk as well. Care to PM me who the dealer was, if you don't want to name them on here? I would suggest you call Ducati UK and try to strike while the iron's hot, as it sounds as if you have been conned.

Just throwing this out there..... I have a "D" in the 10th place on my VIN but I do not have a fairing with a hole to see the sight window.

Not sure how I feel about that yet.... Leaning towards, Don't care.

I was starting to get concerned though. It's date of Mfg is Aug/12. But it was sold to me as a '13 and I never even looked at the ID plates until weeks after I bought it. That's laid to rest with the VIN.

Thanks for the info.

Very interesting.
You have a rare bike, that's a classic in it's own time.
A 2013 model with 2012 vintage fairings.
If it was a Rolex , then it could be worth some serious coin in about 30 years time.
Thanks for sharing that info:)
