2013 with 2012 body work!!

Just throwing this out there..... I have a "D" in the 10th place on my VIN but I do not have a fairing with a hole to see the sight window.

Not sure how I feel about that yet.... Leaning towards, Don't care.

I was starting to get concerned though. It's date of Mfg is Aug/12. But it was sold to me as a '13 and I never even looked at the ID plates until weeks after I bought it. That's laid to rest with the VIN.

Thanks for the info.

Mine is a step worse. Marked 07/12 on it with a "D" in the VIN. Has the bodywork with no oil visibility hole. I checked with State Farm prior to purchase and it was in their computer as a 13.

NOLA

Wow 2 classics identified on the one forum.

I wonder how many are out there, and what vin numbers are covered.
A secret DUCATI limited run of transitional models.

I always thought this forum was pretty special.
Remember you became aware of the obscure transitional model before the rest of the world.
Right here.

To bikenamenumber and Nola,

If you don't mind me asking.
Out of curiosity, as I'm checking out a theory.
What is your 4th letter in your respective VIN's please?

Thanks in advance:)

The plot thickens!

I just had a call from Italy 5 minutes after emailing them, to confirm the bike is a 2013 model despite what the VIN says?

So just got to get a modded rhs fairing from the dealer foc and I will be a happy bunny again :)

VERY impressed at getting a call so quickly form them!!

I can tell you.

You won't get that sort of prompt response from BMW.
EVER.

Nothing to do with lemon laws. That would fit under misrepresentation. You could sue for damages or possibly get a 13 demo. But you are in
I would ask the dealer for $$ or free service.

i was told that in the US anyway its when it went into production. i was looking at an r1 and they said it was a 2014 i said thats the 2013 color pattern. the stealership told me that it was produced the second half of the year so it is technically a 2014. sure enough it was produced late and the tag said 2014.

dont know how true this is but i saw it with my own eyes. shady at best if you ask me.

the hp4 are sold out so you dont have to worry about this shady stuff from bmw. they dont have 2013 hp4 laying around claiming they are 2014 as the bike is worth getting.

...... dealer behaviour is brand independent.....

I do have some questions for the VIN as well. Could you please provide the email address? Thanks!

Glad you got it sorted. Your dealer should provide 2013 spec bodywork with a 2013 spec bike. Accept nothing less or kick up a stink with Ducati UK. Better still Tweet Ducati Motor Holding, as nothing works faster than bad press, and you can be sure they will come down on your dealer like a ton of bricks. Might not be too healthy for your future relationship with the dealer though!!

YOU guys all laughed when I first joined and said they had left over 12's labeled as 13's.

There still new 12's that have not been bought.

My dealer said they took the left over 12's and rebranded some as 13's.

So far here on the west coast, Sacramento has been pretty good to me as far as prices, nothing that made me jump out and buy.

But almost 20 a month cheaper then turn2/motocorsa in Portland.

Im sort of holding off until a few more rain's and hoping they start actually wanting to start getting rid of left over 13's.

in the USA i think that would count in the lemon law if they put on all the paperwork that it's a 2013 (including the vin on the paperwork) and the vin proves that it's a 2012.
They should refund or give you a bigger deal. maybe add on a termi slipon or something.

Agreed, I think they screwed you. I would place a call to Ducati NA and see what they have to say about it if indeed paperwork says '13 but vin says '12.

This type of stuff happens all the time with dealers...unfortunatly.

years ago I thought I was buying a 998R. Turns out what I bought was a factory 996R race bike that had been fitted with street paraphanalia.

Even though the 996R was sold is a "better bike" I didn't know that then, and they flat out lied about it to sell it.

Wish i kept it...:(

I would assume its not legal and valid to create a contract showing that motorcycle is a 13' when the 10th digit on the VIN is a "C". Even vehicles which are early released and labeled a 2012.5 have a "C" as the VIN.

This is a real gray area here... I would expect some sort of recourse from them misrepresenting an obvious 12' model and telling you and contracting the bike as a 13'.

What does your title say the year of the bike is?
