I don't understand why you want to take the engine apart. You had a cooling leak, how much coolant was lost? Was there still coolant left in the radiator? When the headgaskets are blown the engine will still run fine and make power. There are some tests you can perform to find out if the headgaskets are blown. Are you a mechanic?
There's a kit with fluids you can use to look if there are carbons present in your coolant. Is there accessive pressure on the cooling system when engine is warm?
Run engine warm and put pressure on the cooling system for several hours and use an endoscoop to look in the heads for leaking cooling. I can show you some nice pictures of leaking headgaskets. I mean why open up an engine before doing some further checks. Because a 'master tech' says it's going to blow, master tech my ...!
Of course it's your bike, you can do whatever you want with it.
The V4's are strong engines with few mechanical failures but cooling is very important.
By the way I have had 4 waterpumps on my V4 (has nearly 8000kms now) , lost count now but the partnr. has already changed 6 or 7 times. It's a racebike (trackdays) and all done under warranty. I was always lucky to spot it in time so no overheating issue.
Good luck with your disassembling, keep us posted.

The motor is already hurt and there's no point in paying to get it looked at. I am a mechanic and it's not exactly hard to split a case unless you are new at it.

The bike was leaking because of a failed water pump and torn pump gasket. I know that for a fact. It was literally leaking out of the weephole and this was confirmed when the ducati mechanics took apart the bike. I told them I thought the water pump failed due to where it was leaking from.

It's weird though, a few other people I talked to had this same issue at 800 miles and at 2500 miles. I have heard a few other cases of the same issue around the same mileage as mine on a v4r. So either its just one of those Wednesday motor problems are something mechanical failed on the inside that caused the water pump to fail. I see no obvious head gasket leak signs anywhere on the bike.

As far as I know the coolant was always filled up with the proper amount according to the service manual. There was no coolant leak until it hit 5100 miles. That's about all I have to go on and the master mechanics word. So I'm going to tear down the motor and measure every single tolerance. The motor will definitely show something if he heard something.

I thought the motor was running strong… And now the dealer took apart the bike and confirmed a failed water pump? I thought they didn’t want to touch it.

the same exact thing happened to my brother he put to much oil in the bike and boom out of that everything your saying happened to you happened to him.
racing the bike or not 30k for 5k miles is not a good deal when guys buy gsxr and race the ..... out of them and get 30k miles Iwould have got a Lawer to fight the case but also if that exhaust you have is not a ark they act funny anyway

this guy has write this story again a couple of months ago. probably is BS
