Hey All,

So after riding the wife and little one in the warmer weather today, they noticed the bike is too hot for them. So I now have to choose a 2nd bike. After talking to a buddy I narrowed it down to 2.

Ducati Hypermotard SP vs Aprilia Tuono V4 RR

I owned a Hyperstrada and loved it and think the Marz and Ohlins would have made that bike more awesome, but the Ape is V4 and has Full Ohlins on it plus the new Ape Software stuff from the RSV4... Thoughts if you have owned either or have an opinion. This will be a 2 - up city beater sport bike.

Just this morning I was considering a Hyperstrada as my 2nd bike. I'm looking for something that combines my VFR that I use for touring with my supermoto that use for running around town and exploring dirt fire roads.

For a two up second bike you are not moving very far from a sport bike. Do yourself a favor and broaden your horizons to something more of a sport tourer or one of the new adventure bikes that are very close to a true sport tourer.

The Hyperstrada would kick ... for exactly what you want. With one slight thing. The front forks suck major .... You touch the brakes and it damn near dives on you. I was going to do cartridges on it but you have to have them send in to somewhere that does them as the base forks on the hyper's have to be drilled or machined out since there is something in the base of the fork that prevents Andreanini or Penske Cartridges being install like every other forks. Ohlins also said on multiple occasions they won't ever make cartridges or forks for them unless someone custom orders them and the SP Forks are $5k just to buy them. So go into it knowing that. I'd buy the SP and add bags and a screen for the perfect bike for what you want.

My point for the 2nd bike was to stick with sportbikes. Naked sportbike really. I thought about other bikes and the only other bikes that came to mind are the Multistrada and Goldwing lol. If I went outside of the Hyper SP or Tuono it would be one of those too.

My next bike will most likely be a Multi for the family cruiser.

The Multi crossed my mind. I like it. It looks way comfortable and then I wondered if I could play with it in the backroads if my pani was down and watched the pikes peak race haha. OMG ... I now have to include it.

Oh I'm sure you could have fun with it on the backroads. I've seen them at the track and in the right hands they are plenty fast. Let's just say that at my local track Andrew Cox of Cox Racing rides a Ducati STS and can school anyone out there on any other bike...

The '14 Multi Pikes Peak is an amazing bike on its own. I have one as my second bike and often think about how fun is to be able to hop on it for some Rowdy Fun anywhere. It is a great bike to take down the beach of to jam in the corners, I just cant get over how well rounded the bike is in every aspect.

The '14 "R" is amazing in a different way. This is my primary go to bike for the hard days on the canyons. The Hooligan in the bike comes out and you are in for a wild ride when she shows you she is still the boss! The "R" amazes me every time I ride it, Raw - Unadulterated - Adrenalin - Machine!

So I'm getting a consensus of Tuono or Multi. My youngest one who rides with me more than anyone loves the ape haha.

Hyperstrada is physically too small for regular 2 up riding for 2 adults.
Get something more suitable like the MTS or a KTM adv R. They are both more than capable of mixing it with average riders on sportsbikes.

didn't you just trade your Hyper to get the 1199?
