Anyone got the base model yet?

Question: how do the fork adjustments work? Do you need to spin the red nut with a socket, or is the adjustment done through the hole in the center? If the red portion needs to be turned, I would be concerned about scratching the lovely color off.

Actually the red nut is for the spring preload, and the rebound damping adjusters are the little black bit in the middle. Compression damping adjusters will be down behind the fork leg just above the front axle in those forks. You can just wrap some tape around them when you adjust them, or mount some manual adjusters (color matched for sure!) to the preload nuts so you can do it by hand. But don't be afraid of tweaking to see what it does, it's not a piece of jewelry. It's a motorbike, with all sorts of bits on it just wanting to get twisted... :p

From what i have heard bikes arrive at New Jersey port and then get on a truck and distributed throughout the states. Am not sure about your case since you reside in Canada. Your bike will most likely arrive at a local port facing the Atlantic and from there depending on how far your dealer is arrive in a couple days. 1 week max i would say.

Hope that helps

Canadian bikes get in to Halifax and are then trucked to Toronto where they are distributed

and make sure to use 6 point sockets, they've less potential for rounding the nuts.

After reading all of the sub-par dealer customer service responses on this and other 1199 forums, I'm at least happy to say that my dealer is fantastic. I don't however believe that the lousy customer service experiences are completely dealer related though, since Ducati Italy has always been lax in their attitude about keeping anyone informed about anything...eh, we get to it whena we get to it. Amazing they were able to sell the company with such a pathetic attitude towards their best customers. DNA isn't much better. In both DNA and the dealers' defense, with no info. given, what can they tell us? not much. And, whatever they DO say, will most likley be wrong, since they have no control.

Anyway, here's information direct from Italy. My dealer is one of the leading Ducati dealers in the U.S. They received the largest allocation of bikes delivered for the unveiling on 4/27. They are the only dealer in the U.S. with 3 Master level technicians on staff and their top tech received the #1 master tech in the U.S. award from Ducati. They are a solid race shop that I've dealth with for many years. I received this response this morning:

Hi Chuck,

We have no specific details at this point... One of our customers was over in Italy this past week visiting the factory and he did say that the 1199 base models were starting to roll off the production line!

DNA has started to issue confirmations of orders for the month, but no shipping information has been provided. As soon as we have shipping information and VIN's we will let everyone know!

Generally, it is 5-days from receipt of shipping confirmation that we receive the bikes.

I will keep you posted!

So there it is.

I agree man. I am planning on replacing the stock bulbs too. I want to look into some HID's. Dealer told me June but since I've read some of the fellas got a shipping notice I might just call and confirm June.

Has anyone received confirmation of an Ontario, Canada, delivery for this upcoming week?

I have my base model on order here in London Ontario at Inglis cycle and havn't received any info.

^ Contact your dealer. They can tell you if they received order confirmation from Ducati yet.

I did that yesterday, and yup, they have confirmation that my unit is being shipped soon. That said, no shipment details/VIN as of yet.

I cancel my order today. No news from dealer and bike not being delivered next week as promise by Ducati North America. Not putting up with more excuses.

Just got word from my dealer, 'around week of 20th' for base/abs. Very happy to hear something positive about delivery.

Chris

Just got a voicemail from my dealership today. My 1199 base no-abs is on it's way ! I'll try to get in touch with him tomorrow and see if he has an actual delivery date. Can't wait !

I actually like the look of the Marzocchi fork tops better than the Ohlins forks, and the wheels of the base are FAR better looking than the S wheels. Yes I would rather have the S overall because of the wheels and suspension, but as others have said I think those new pressurized Marzocchi forks are probably gonna be as good as the Ohlins when properly setup and sprung for the rider. Does anyone know if they have a larger internal piston like the Showa BPF forks? No one I have asked has a definite answer... My dealer said he thinks so, but is not sure.

I've been informed by GoldCoast, they expect my base in any day now.....no vin but they think it should be in within this next week.....psyched!
Looks like bases are coming guys-

Excellent!! Excellent!! Chuck, as soon as your dealer lets you know something .. please post like you did here. I guess your dealer's info to you and you posting it to us can make up for the LACK of communication for the rest of the dealerships and DNA ...again, Thnx!!! for the update .. I too am waiting for my base 1199 and also a VIN so I can do my insurance and loan set up.

Yep! Congrats .. keep us posted .. it can only mean good things for the rest of us waiting on the base model.

throwing on the pile here... got conformation that mines en route to the dealer on monday the 14 th.

Arrived.......

Hey Bolds - What do you think of the new aluminum pressurized Marzocchi forks? Have you ridden previous base models? Actually for all who have taken delivery any thoughts on this? Be great to start discussing how "good" the base model is. :)

I'm on the fence between base/ABS or S ABS. I really have to stretch to make the S work.

Pickin her up 2 moz, cannot wait - termi's fitted and suspensh set to P at the dealer. Bloody weather forecast is 6 degrees C, sleet and rain.........:(

might just take the van and leave it till sat - 14 deg and sunny:)
