I have to say man, I’m not resonating with “it’s stupid to go more than 7/10’s on a track day so safety equipment isn’t needed” paraphrasing there, but there are like MULTIPLE things wrong with that 😂😂😂

It’s got to rank amongst the top three stupid things he’s ever said on here!

the boots/gloves/suits are the best. I dont know how a custom suit doesn't fit you... was it cowhide or kangaroo?

Cowhide…I have a weird shaped body, shorter barrel chested torso, long limbs, and I’m 6’2” and was 255-260 pounds when I ordered those two custom fit suits…I’m 210 lbs now. The suites were always too tight and never got much more flexible or ‘broke in’ they are also very heavy and bulky but I think that’s because of the cowhide.

I think the guy measuring me at Dianese wasnt the best at his job either

Love the boots, worth every penny of that $700…the gloves I think are over priced for what you get, there is a local guy in San Diego who make pretty good gloves…I have two pair of Dianese gloves, and that guys gloves, and I reach for that guys gloves every time I head out to track.

These guys have a booth at most of the SoCal track days, their gloves are the best I ever tried.

Probably should give them a shot at making my suit based on the gloves lol

kangaroo is lighter + thinner, stretches more, breathes better

Cow at least for covering your butt. Much better for the occasional 100 mph lowside. Steven if the suits are hard to break in wear them in the rain or get in the shower and then wear it till mostly dry. When your wife asks WTF blame it on me.

I actually did that with one of my Dianese, worked a bit, I think I just just like Cowhide suits

The weird thing is that Andy has read all of them and has a ranking list.

It’s a personal choice to go with back protector vs airbag. I rationalize it that I’m not riding hard enough therefore don’t need the faffery of an airbag. It’s like helmet preference. Or glove preference. Or any preference. It’s why I don’t run slicks or tire warmers.

I gotta disagree with ya on this one man, airbags are a proven technology at this point…in my last five track days alone I saw guys get a brain bleed, another with a fairly serious spinal injury from a low side that ended up tumbling, and broken collar bones and shoulder injuries that can knock guys out for a year or more at our age happen all the time from fairly benign seeming crashes.

You are no spring chicken anymore SD…your bones aren’t as green as they use to be…you also have no control of other riders doing stupid .... like coming out of nowhere with no time to react cutting to an apex and clipping your front wheel causing you to high side.

Even an injury as minor but ...... as a broken collar bone or a back injury that could have been prevented by an airbag would .... up your lifestyle and quality of life for way to long at our age.

It's actually not a faff at all. Mine is built in, lasts 3 days on a charge. Turn it on, climb into leathers. Simple.

I've seen plenty of people crash on the sighting laps, following an instructor and they have taken other riders out. Got to give yourself the best chance.

(And not comparable to a choice of tyres,
which can bring a lot of faffery)

No 4 on the stupid list comparing tyre choice to personal safety equipment.

I hear you guys. Also, what kind of trackdays are you riding at w that much drama. The ones I go to are considerably more chill.

Airbag won’t stop a brain bleed or shoulder injury. Collarbone yes. Neck stuff debatable. Back injury prevention is most likely not better than a good back protector. Also I seem to roll well and have sturdy collarbones. Have had multiple big push bike crashes and yet to break a collarbone (somehow).

I try to ride away from others. That’s the beauty of riding at the tip of intermediates. It’s easier to position yourself on the track and you have more control of situations. You encounter a gaggle, either pit and wait for open track or methodically work through it. Just my approach.

I'm thinking there's somebody on here who'd like that old, nasty RCS. The nice thing about the RCS is the fine adjuster on the span. Good particularly if you've got big hands. I'm trying to figure out where that is on your new one.

Right about there ;-)

The TechAir 10 is protecting your collarbone, as well as your hips. Also take into consideration that the good old "hard backprotector" is included in the TechAir so in the event it is not working your still protected. I also always use a breast plate, as the risk of puncture from sharp objects are always there. But that is just me...
The TechAir was a failure from the start, I got a new one during the autumn and now it is all good. AirTech backside is the "plastic foil in the sauna" feeling, incredible at hot days.
