not really why I said it but...
There are plenty of fabric that abrasion wise are great, but they are not as supple and pliable as leather - esp Kangaroo leather. Synthetic abrasion resistant fabrics have very different characteristics, however Astars is going down the road slightly. If you look Dainese does not show the Mugello RR suit on US site because it is kangaroo and for some reason that is not acceptable in the US?!

One of the products above improves flexibility compared to leather as stated by the mfg. Though I assume that is compared to cow hide.

I still find it interesting that material tech hasn’t found a replacement for leather yet.

I haven’t tried kangaroo leather but my Dainese laguna seca is ....... heavy.

Absolutely, Dainese has its own particular smell and it’s strong

I suspect it’s whatever they do to make the pigmentation last, and it does.

my custom cut suit was taking too long to break in, so I took a warm shower in the thing to soak it through and wore it all day till it dried. Problem solved, but I was half worried the red would bleed into the white and turn it pink lol.

no color fade or bleed whatsoever even after 20 minutes in a slightly warm shower

Pretty pissed off right now with LAP Motorsports….Like most shops they are booked out weeks in advance, so I booked my time with them weeks out in advance. Dropped the bike off on the 15th, told me it would be ready when I got back this week on Thursday.

I go straight to the shop from the airport all excited to see the bike at the shop….and they hadn’t even touched it yet, and he started mumbling something about ‘maybe getting it on the schedule next week sometime, and that he was booked three weeks out.’

I said but I booked this 3 weeks out on the date you chose, abs you told me as late as 3 days ago it would be ready by Thursday night.

he then tells me that he had a bunch of bikes show up at the shop that were fast turn bikes he could get in and out so he pushed mine back.

Honestly I don’t care how much of a race pedigree a shop has, or how good of work they do, if I wait for my place in line, and then when it’s my turn you put a bunch of walk-ins in front of mine and say ‘maybe I can get to it next week?’

No…unless he suprises me tomorrow with some kind of fix that corrects the loss of my time I’ll be picking up my bike and parts tomorrow.

Anybody use SoCal Superbikes in Gardena?

If it makes you feel any better Steven, this isn't far off what happens a lot in the UK. Most places get it right, but sometimes, mistakes are made!

I know you're pissed, but my only advice would be, don't burn your bridges! Take a breath, have another chat with the owner, and try and work it out. If you find another shop that will carry the work out in the timeframe you require, let the guy know you're on a timeline and so 'have' to take it elsewhere for this instance.

But, I feel your pain, sometimes it's hugely frustrating, especially as this is a passion that most of us work hard to allow.

And, if you watch motorsport at any level, from F1 down to soap boxes, you ALWAYS see teams not making the first race, or not having all their vehicles prepped. It's nothing personal!

But yes, what they've done is ........

@Steven31371 i can relate - I’ve experienced similar circumstances in the car community more times than I can recall.

I’d be pissed too, but I agree with @RickD996 - as frustrating as it is, the dispassionate pragmatic approach is optimal. If there’s another shop that can handle the work, great!! If not, take it elsewhere without burning the bridge behind you.

I’m not too surprised to hear this news. The same guys ran the previous shop, which went out of business. It doesn’t sound like they have learned from their mistakes. I’ve taken my bike to several shops over the years, but I always return to DNB.

Yeah they are decent guys, particularly their main TEC at LAP, he really knows his .... in setting up track bikes and is a very nice guy, so I won’t burn the bridge….but they certainly need to understand that if they are going to mess up their Own scheduling commitments that they won’t be working on my stuff anymore

ya know my whole life I’ve been conditioned to not take your stuff to the “Stealership” for service, but I gotta give DNB their props, they’ve done nothing but good quality work for me with good customer service.

It’s a common occurrence in the tuning world. I’m surprised you haven’t come across this experience while tuning your Porsche.

Oh I have, and that’s why I have zero tolerance for it anymore lol

just had to wait damn near a year for them to get my Porsche done.

the problem with that, once you get to the point where you can buy new toys on a regular basis, is that if they take too long to finish your stuff you kinda move on emotionally to the next exciting thing by the time they finish, and it kinda takes some of the fun out of it.

Agreed 100%…..Unfortunately my schedule with kids and work means that for the next year or two I can either build the bike or ride the bike…not both.
Understand, the positive is that through planning and working smart, you will have independence in a short period of time most will never have and you will be free to venture out. Trading time for dollars is great as long as it’s not your time. Enjoy brother.
