Base V4 or V2 Bayliss?

I have a deposit down for a V2 Bayliss, but still going back and forth on a straight V4. I have done an extensive test drive on the V2 and loved it, especially the narrower profile and slightly more relaxed ergo’s and seat. Ohlins will only make it better handling for both Street and track and the power is more than adequate. Love everything about the build and colors except the “look at me” numbers.

As it’s only $1200 difference I’m still thinking about a base V4, however I think I prefer the better suspension and a bit less power (street and tight local tracks) If I opt for the Akro system now I’m only ~$2600 off a V4S

I like the twin character, and either bike will exceed my riding abilities, although I’ll be more in the sweet spot of a V2 than a V4, and pretty sure I won’t outride the suspension on the base V4 Showa/Sachs either. Depending on numbers eventual resale might be better on the Bayliss than a base V4, yet I wonder if I’m just going to upgrade eventually so why not do it once and do it right?

You probably won't outride the v2 suspension either.

Modifications for almost everyone on this board is more of a want than need. Sure, the ohlins setup will look nicer, perform better and you'll probably feel better knowin you have an upgraded component or two on your bike but modding usually doesn't stop with one or two things. Once you go down that road, it's hard to stop. You're already leanin towards the v2 so go with that and start the mods. V4 isn't gonna give you anything more desirable besides power and since you don't need that, decision should be simple.

Used to be a lot simpler between the 1x99's and 899/959. SSSA would be my only reason with goin with the bigger bike but now that the v2 has that, no need for the v4.

I was thinking along the same lines as you.A new Bayliss V2 or a used 1199.Like yourself I am very partial to the twin. However in my country the difference in insurance rates between the 2 are substantial. And our riding season is only 7 months out of the year.Heat discomfort from the bigger 1199 engine was also a concern for me.Long story short-check out your insurance rates for your V2 versus V4 and engine heat as well.Have you test rode a V4 like you have the V2? Maybe a substantial V4 test ride can help with your decision.Keep us posted.

Well, the better bike is the base V4

but the question is, what is the best bike for you and your needs

Defenetly, both are going to be great bikes, and the v2 is a special EDITION,

so if you dont like moding a base bike, you may well go for the v2

if you do like modding, i will defenetly go for the V4 base

The extra horsepower is probably only going to be make a positive difference on the straight away at the top end of the rev range and even then it depends how good your drive is coming out of the preceding corner. Assuming you can get that 1 second of gain with the extra down the straight with decent drive, tuck and shift, the gain is at risk of being lost when the bloke on the twin brakes later and harder than you into the next corner…

This will be a better choice of a platform for you guys thinking of a V2, Bayliss or a V4.

It is a waste of time asking the internet about what bike to buy however the simple answer is the twin will be a bit cheaper to buy, run and service. The V4 will feel twice as fast and silky smooth but will cost more. Forget the Gayliss, get a base 2 or 4 and add wheels and a shock.

The internet is people, opinions, experiences, SME’s, as well as egos and insecurities. Been around long enough to know the difference and I generally value others experiences and opinions. Not interested in the Ducatisti lifestyle or bragging rights in the paddock - just a bike I will enjoy.

Motorcycles are about passion and emotion as well as engineering. The Italians do the former really well. The Germans the latter, the Japanese bikes (and cars) engineering but are soulless and I dislike the design

Good opinion on V2 vs 4. It’s also easy to overkill on mods and power well beyond what one needs or can and will use. I have actually gone back to basics and no longer spend lots of $$ to mod bikes therefore looking for the best model that meets my anticipated needs. If someone made a wrap to cover that godawful number and it was just a tricolore V2S it would be a no-brainer

I had a 959 Corse and moved "up" to the V4S Corse. The main reason was simply that I live near Circuit of the Americas, and I wanted a bigger bike to ride it there. Plus the active suspension riding around central Texas is just superb.

However, I miss my 959 and prefer it riding around town, and just riding out in the country. You get to use all of the gears, whereas my V4 only gets to 4th typically.

I would think that Ducati would release a V2S at some point. I would buy used, and wait for that to come out. It has to be around the corner, and what if there is a 2022 option? All of the 2022's are soon to be released. Could it be better than a V2S??
