I collected my 1299S on saturday from St.Neots motorcycle, complete with shiny new paddock stand and Akrapovic silencers.. Not too sure why they are called silencers as they are much louder than the full termi system that I had on my tricolore and the quality is in a different league. I spoke to the mechanic who fitted them and he was raving about them, specifically about the build quality and how easy they were to fit as everything lined up, unlike the termi's. Whether they pass the noise test at the track even with the baffles in is a different question
Initial impressions are that it is very different to the 1199S. It feels somehow lighter, low down torque is much more present ( HURRAH ) and its more like the delivery you'd expect from a vtwin, the steering is different and it feels more comfortable dropping down and holding a line through a corner, the footpegs work and the clutchless shifter is a joy, especially on the downshifts. I haven't have much time on the bike yet to get an impression of the electronics and haven't played with the semi-active suspension - more to follow on that when I've had a chance to have a proper play with it.
Its the first bike since my '98 R1 that I have ridden and just spent time laughing away to myself as I've been riding along, even during the tortuous running in period. I was worried that it wouldn't be different enough to the 1199 to justify but its not so much evolution, more like a revolution. To say that Im pleased would be a massive understatement, well done Ducati
