As far as I can tell…..if you want GPS data you need the dongle or a solo 2 / solo 2 DL

I think that it can function as a camera and probably provide data overlay but if you want to look at data traces, map overlay and have accurate speed you will need the dongle.

If you already have a solo 2 you can use the GPS signal from that.

Amazing they could quote me for the camera with a custom cable to work as a standalone unit and not mention that I’d need the dongle. 🫣

The cost of their GPS dongle is anywhere between one third and half of the cost of the Solo 2 DL.

I don’t have the camera, just the solo 2 DL. So I could be mistaken, that’s just what I understand from looking at the website.

I suppose they don’t know if you are building the camera onto an existing AIM set-up or not, so I don’t think it is absurd that they wouldn’t quote the GPS module. They probably should have asked though.

They absolutely do know I am talking about the camera as a standalone unit - that’s precisely why they’ve offered a custom cable to connect it directly to the ECU.

I asked them about this and they confirmed that a GPS module is required.

This arrived and will be my Thanksgiving break project.

I have the Mellotti display protector and it looks like there’s enough room in there to run the Starlane line down into the Mellotti case between the case and the dashboard and mount the laptimer right above the dashboard.

Steve, my only comment is the buttons can be stiff to access the menus, just make sure there is enough support behind the unit. My kid has one on his gas tank and he has to press really hard to scroll through his times.

Yeah I was messing with it last night and decided to go a different route. Will post pics today.

AIM have this for the GSXR1000:

Basically, a replacement dashboard that has full data logging and can have a camera attached… This would appear to be what @DeussenEngines was hoping would be produced for the V4. It’s a neat solution in terms of taking up no more space on the bike.

If AIM produced this for the V4 then I reckon I’d buy it.

There are options to do this - but there are trade offs for all of them. Money + glitches with OEM display/comms being the main ones. I have what IMO is the best civilian data setup for V4 platform. AIM Solo 2 DL // ACC // Brake Pressure sensors // Front + rear pots. That way you can run OEM dash, hide the ....... Solo 2 because it looks like a 1993 times sq. electronic store purchase and be sorted. If you are waiting for AIM to release something grab a blanket.

Your set up is excellent, but a replacement dash that includes full logging would be good, assuming it works correctly.

You are limited with the camera you can use with this setup, whereas that limitation does not exist with the full setup you have. The better cameras unfortunately introduce a huge controller that also has to be hidden somewhere.

At the moment I can export DDA data and manually align it with video. It does not have brake data which is something that I would really like.

The brake data shows you braking at 01.31…. And again at half past two ..

Didn’t you run the I2m dash for a while? It logs data iirc. Why did you decide to stop running it - glitchy?

Video and data are two separate things

Why do you want to hide solo 2? Aren't you looking at lap times / splits as you on track?
