Wheelie control would be a very nice feature indeed! Add me to the list of interested parties if that makes any difference...

Thanks Jarel

jarel,

Riddle me this,... I want to switch to Gia moto rear sets. Long story short, I need a DP reverse QS to run GP shift. Will I still need that reverse shifter to run the blipper box in GP shift? I also don't get how reversing the load switch alone gives you GP shift,.... Do you have to flip the linkage?

Thanks.

If you use the dp reverse shift switch, you always have to flip the linkage over so the gear change goes the right direction. Some of the rearsets, like the woodcraft, reverse the foot pedal pivot point so you don't need to flip the linkage over. With the blip box you can do it either way since the switch senses both directions, you just go into the blip box software and reverse the sensor input.

So do I not need the buy a reverse shifter cause I will have the blip box? Or, do I still need a QS, in this case the DP reverse shifter? I guess I thought the blipper strain/pressure switch was only for the down shift part.

No, you don't need any other shift/blip sensor, the sensor rod that comes with the Blip Box will completely replace it.

The first round of kits are shipping from the UK on May 5th, so not long now.

More informational updates on the product:

Pro - Version with load cell
 Blip will be activated under these conditions:
o RPM is higher than 3500
o Rear wheel speed is higher than 30kmh
o Throttle grip is closed (less than 4%)
o The time since the last blip must have been exceeded (0.4seconds) o There are no Blip Box diagnostics active (flashing LED)
 The BLIP disengages the gearbox very much like a quick shifter in reverse, but your foot pressure makes the gear shift, so make a positive movement just like you would when using the clutch.
 For riders who use the slipper clutch excessively you may need to extend the primary BLIP duration to give more time to close the clutch and make the gearbox reversal. Use WinBLIP software or consult your dealer.
 Never force the lever, the BLIP should make it smooth and easy. If you suspect the gear is not fully engaged, pull in the clutch and check in a normal way.
 Never try to make a clutch-free downshift while accelerating (like dropping a gear to overtake). In this case the BLIP system will not work.
 After each downshift blip, release the lever pressure to re-arm it for the next gear Blip change.

Lite - Version with clutch activation
 Blip will be activated under these conditions:
o RPM is higher than 3500
o Rear wheel speed is higher than 30kmh
o Throttle grip is closed (less than 4%)
o The time since the last blip must have been exceeded (0.6seconds) o Clutch being pulled in.
o Front or rear brake light switch must be triggered
o There are no Blip Box diagnostics active (flashing LED)
 The BLIP disengages the gearbox very much like a quick shifter in reverse, but your foot pressure makes the gear shift, so make a positive movement just like you would when using the clutch.
 For riders who sometimes feather the clutch (not fully disengaging) while entering a corner we recommend the Blip Box - Pro version as your clutch modulation may trigger a Blip as you enter the corner which will push the bike forward unless the clutch is fully disengaged.
 After each downshift blip, release the clutch lever to re-arm it for the next gear Blip change. You will only get one blip per clutch activation
 Due to the large variation in the time to make a "˜clutch down gear change' the base Blip maps have taken average values. So if you feel the Blip is too short or too long to make a perfectly smooth shift these can be adjusted in the WinBlip software.

Jarel
Can you explain the last bullet above for the pro version please?

B

It just means you have to fully remove your foot pressure from the shift lever between downshifts, you can't leave the lever sort of "preloaded" with foot pressure between downshifts.

Thanks Jarel
That makes sense... Thought you were initially referring to the clutch lever, and was therefore confused

I was able to get more Blip Box Pro units added to our shipment next week, so there are still a few more available for sale if anyone else wants in! I've been tooling around on our 899 Panigale demo bike with the Blip Box Pro on it and it really works great.

I will ask my fiancée if she can pick one up and bring with to South Africa. :D

Hi Jarel,

A few questions from a Johnny Come Lately . . .
Do you currently have any Pro units left of the first batch?
Do you have the UCIF cable and software available too? (I think that it would be fun to play around with some of the variables).
Could you pre-load the settings for a 2012 1199S Tricolore with Termi full evolution exhaust system?
I appreciate that there is no warranty for the Blip Box but will this also invalidate my Ever Red extended warranty?
Having tested a 1299S with the DQS downshift function I like the idea a lot . . . especially as it means that I wont need to trade in my Tricolore for a new 1299S.
Cheers,

Sammo

1 last question . . . are they thinking about offering a paddle shift upgrade at some point?

Yes, I think we have two left now. We have the cables available as well. Yes, the blip map is the same for any 1199 model, and the exhaust doesn't matter, but it's a different map for standard or GP shift, you just need to specify that on your order if you're running GP shift. Nothing about the BlipBox will invalidate a warranty, it's an external module and does not mess with any internal settings on the bike or the ECU.
