Ducati Panigale V4 916 25 Anniversario Build Thread

When you're feeding a hobby/passion, no amount of money spent is considered a waste.....IF you're financially comfortable to do so. That said, if I had the funds to do so, I'd hit up pro italia right now and buy their 0 mile d16rr they have for sale for $85k and it would sit in my living room also.
Yeah I get that but I'd be riding it a little at least!

Valid point. Money spent is completely subjective and if you have it and it works for you, go nuts. For me it started off as another “build” thread which for my personal taste can go either direction (yongR, Mick, etc) or this direction. His initial post specifically stated “ tasteful enhancements” so, what the hell. The project came off the rails soon after. Seems like a nice guy but definitely catered to anyone giving him the attention and praise he desired and would challenge anyone who didn’t with his superior intelect. Personally, I think he slaughtered a decent motorcycle. Why not just start out with a base if you’re going to change everything. Paint a 1 on it and print yourself up a certificate for the wall. No one is ever going to see the bike anyhow. Bike aside, for me, Howard’s pomposity and OCD fueled banter nuked any interest I may have had in his venture.

My point was, if money was no issue, I'd buy the 0 mile d16rr that's actually available at a dealer right now. Yes, i agree riding one is where the experience and joy is but for that, I'd buy a used one for half the price and actually ride that one.

Yeah somewhere in this pile he said he bought it but never intended to ride it. Beats me....waste of money in my eyes

It’s different for everyone. Working on the bike and making “his own” is more of his hobby and interest rather than riding. Also, I think it was something he was doing with his son, so I think the time spent with his son along with the build is of higher interest to him than the riding of the bike.

So what kind of content would people like to see? Because while I agree with endodoc, in that bolt on parts do not constitute a "build," I also enjoy seeing someones vision come together, even if I dont always care for the creative liberties they take.

I recently purchased a brand new Ducati V4S, albeit a leftover model without the winglets. I never thought I'd buy one as I was quite the critic when they were first released, but this wouldnt be the first time I've ate crow. Took delivery on Thursday and have scheduled an appointment tomorrow with a local high end detailing shop for an estimate on paint correction, ppf, and ceramic coating. Unlike HKMP7, I lack the skillset required to perform this myself. I'm happy to share the changes I make if anyone cares, it wont be as extravagant as others have been, but not everyone here clears 6 figures, let alone 7. If no one cares, I'll save myself the trouble and enjoy riding her instead.

I'm not too keen on content creation, so I haven't been documenting anything, but I wish there were more people detailing their performance builds. A lot of people just buy the entire motomillion and proti catalogs, bolt it on, and consider that the "ultimate" Panigale.

I have, however, yet to see anyone outline what it takes to install a Febur racing radiator or Pierobon SBK subframe. I'm going for a racing built with mine, picked up the Pierobon STK subframe, will be doing the front as well. Unfortunately, nobody has documented doing the same, so I'm just kinda making it up as I go along with wiring management and whatnot. Hell, I had to dig like a ............ and eventually found a Diavel video on how to remove the handlebar switch clusters, since I didn't know the trick to taking them off.

Just kinda disappointing how we got folks who got all kinds of tools, expertise, and money, yet lack the creativity to do anything beyond Campiski-tier just replacing everything with carbon and titanium.

Campisi-tier...well played. ;) I completely agree, unfortunately I'm not your guy. I bought mine primarily for the street (although she'll get a proper shagging at the track and in the canyons...frequently) so the chassis and motor will remain stock. Mine would be limited to superficial mods from the catalogue you fondly referenced. I have full on superbike builds I'd be happy to share, but I doubt many here are interested in the nuances of race prepped R6's. For example: kit harness and ecu...100% baller status to a racer, everyone else just thinks it's a standard wiring loom and ecu.

MaverickiB. There are many posts with the content you described. Mick, YongR, Bruce Wayne myself and many others have done all that including all the RS stuff, motor builds, head work bla bla. On this board, it went virtually unnoticed so it’s kept to discussions off line. I prefer that content but it’s not at all mainstream and it seems to be taken somewhat offensively by others. The atmosphere here is almost completely void of very high end, expensive, race related hardware or mods. It is what it is.

Ashes, good points. I posted the whole Marelli SBK setup and the RS motor, Storm SBK system etc on here and the post sank to the bottom of the list like the Titanic in cold water. Just not the place.

Look at Blade Runners post on his Mupo suspension and his SBK brake setup. Awesome stuff but a snooze fest for all but a few but you’ll get 20 pages of posts on mirrors, wings and how much better the bike turns in after replacing the rotor bolts with Ti.

Bit off topic but I’m curious about these more hardcore track focussed builds (not just motomillion mod kits) that some blokes undertake. In terms of not only cost, but the process of stripping down and rebuilding the whole machine why start with a brand new V4/S/R if nearly everything will get replaced? Obviously with the cost of the bike itself you can regain a bit selling the unwanted stock parts but in that situation would it be better for example to buy the bare minimum necessary parts, literally even just the engine alone (not disregarding how much of that will be replaced too) and then source or fabricate the higher spec components to build an almost identical machine to wsbk without forgetting that many of those parts may be unattainable?

(This only applies to someone with sufficient funds aiming to get the most elite track experience of course)

And before anyone points it out I know it’s just a long way to ask a simple question I probably know the answer to. I’m just fascinated with what’s involved in the process.

Andy7, you don't want to go there as you have attempted to inject way too much logic in your questioning. You're asking for barrage of criticism from the Ducati police who are adamant that there is no way for anyone to build a "kit" bike that will be comparable to what Ducati builds for the dealer floor no matter what resources they have. Now I personally don't agree with these experts but do yourself a favor and let it go. That can of worms has received way too much millage. Pfff, the nerve of some guys thinking they can out do those OEM masterpieces. Its funny how so many people spend thousands changing all that OEM stuff out for aftermarket parts many to the point of "yea, you should have just gotten a motor, frame and swingarm" and then defend what the "factory" delivers.

By my own logic if someone has the resources to do such a thing, I figured it would almost be cheaper - and certainly easier - to just invest in a private team and get the factory to build one for you.
It was more just thinking out loud as I’m very much a rookie in the world of Ducati, let alone building and racing bikes.
Im really interested in what you’ve built too, if you ever get a chance Id love to see some photos.

LOL I've learned my lesson about posting anything like that here. Don't want to offend anyone. Shoot me a PM

I dont think anyone tries to build anything better than what the factory delivers but i think it is more about individal taste, some bling to make it diiferent from the one down the road. Building a race bike though is completley different, here in aus we cant do much to modify our race bikes due to the rules, we can pretty much fit exaust, suspension but cant change forks only fit cartridges, we can flash the ecu. We can change rearsets and handle bars. I am putting together a v4r that i would love to race if the rules allowed and im doing it because i love making stuff, but no matter what i make or buy it will never be same spec as a factory wsbk i simply dont have the skill or resorces to do that, but i have only fitted or modified parts that are an improvement over the stock item, the oversize radiator looks great but serves a purpose, i made a new rear link that is more linear for better rear grip, i have put the project on hold atm due to other bikes im working on but will update when finished.

That’s interesting. I had no idea about that!

I have nothing against people modding their toys to their taste, we’re all guilty of it of course. And for 99% of riders that’s the extent of their skill and desire. I like things that look nice (that’s the artist in me) but also the satisfaction of building/improving a machine using your own brain and hands is extremely satisfying too. That rear link looks quality! I can’t wait to see what other pieces you come up with yourself. And of course seeing any updates you share.

Hello everyone,
I believe my last post describes the problems that I see with this website, which limit the true potential of this website to grow.
However, it is not my character to say GOODBYE but leaving a problem behind without finding a solution.

So, in that spirit, I am planning to build a new forum for people interested in modifying their Ducati, and I purchased the domain name yesterday.

I will use my business experience to manage this new forum, do my best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable in posting their modification
(regardless whether they are building a race bike/WSBK replica or a simpler level of modifications)
I hope to have the forum up and running in about a month (or two months) from today.
I won't be writing the name of the forum here, because it will be unethical,
plus I want to challenge my son to improve his Search Engine Optimization skill, so my forum will be found when people google them.

Oh, yes, My oldest son will be the one running the technical side of configuring the forum software, cloud Webhosting, and Search Engine Optimization.
Hopefully, he can use this experience as a contributing factor for acceptance when he transfers to the University of his dream.
And this is the main reason because I don't expect any monetary profit from this new forum.
I am also very happy today because my oldest son started going to community college today. :D

@Phl , I never mentioned your name on my last post because I understand your situation, and your hand is tied.
I never blame you for the current situation and Thank You for your kind response in the PM.

I also want to address some of the response:
a. Everyone who joins an internet forum usually either:
  1. Looking for information/ideas/inspiration/help (or CAD file) and learning new knowledge
or
2. Showing off their accomplishments or capability (whether just for hobby or to make money)
If a member can do the two above, while feeling welcome and comfortable, then the forum will grow in membership,
along with more knowledge, diversity, quality, and quantity of content, leading to highly monetize traffic.
Like business, if you don't keep growing or innovate or adapt to the changing taste or market, you will be extinct.
Has this Ducatiforum met the criterias above?

b. To continue on the "showing off" part of the forum, well, that is just human nature.
Yes, I created my BUILD Thread to satisfy my EGO first, by showing off my capability.
I am NOT a hypocrite and admit that I am here to "show off." But I did it in the right forum/topic about Ducati.
Once in a while, I might tell stories that explain my background so people can see me as a person and understand why I do what I did,
and it's my right as the creator of the thread. If a book writer can write his background on the front page of a book, so can I.
I also think that is another factor why my thread can garner the number of views. It's the human touch.

c. I never understand why too many people were so "concern" that I will never ride my bike even after I explain my reasoning over and over again...
It's not like I never ride a fast Ducati (or fast bike) in the past,... I did it, and I am glad I am still alive.
Now, I just want to enjoy my hobby, walking back the memory lane while bringing interest, knowledge, and passion to my two sons,
who are both going to engineering school. I also want my two sons to see that if they are successful, they can buy the "finer things" in life.
My ultimate success as a human will be judge by the whole world on how successful my two sons will become, and that worth the price of buying my bike and do all the modifications on it without the need to ride it. :)

Back to the new upcoming forum, where I will also be a contributing member, here are some sneak previews (and there will be so much more).
Also, notice that even though you can buy these parts online, however, many of my off the shelf parts were customized further.
Braketech won't sell you a gold anodize center rear brake carrier. You see, people want to perform modifications that they can do themselves (preferably in their garage or living room).
I made and show how easy it is, while endodontic will try to point out how "HARD" his modification is... which might be interesting for a niche market but a turn off for mere mortals.
I am flowing with the market. endodontic thought that the market has to follow him... :p

Guess, what the right barb will be for? hint: it's for something very special from Brembo :D

Last, I want to "SHOWING OFF" just one more picture, for one last time.
This picture taken earlier today, where my younger son stops playing his PS4 games when he saw me returned with the BrakeTech disc carrier from the anodizing shop.
(this is also my Younger Son who creates that "UNOBTAINABLE" CAD File).

My young son wants to prove his mechanical skill by putting those locking spiral washer to lock the BrakeTech disc carrier to the rotor.
I know it is not that hard to do that, but take a look at that picture...

This picture alone worth more than $60K that I already spent so far on my bike. Actually, it's priceless.
You might understand more if you are a Father.

Anyway, it's time to really say GOODBYE DucatiForum,
I am grateful to learn all this new experience.
