Ducati V4 rumors?!

Aaaaaaanyways, back on track yeah?

l or v really? who cares we want 4 cylinders in some shape that isn't inline. the twin has reached its max point.

purists happy lol thats so funny. Purists like to deny technology or that something can be better and are usually left behind.
Purist for example keeps stating a manual transmission is better then dual clutch. purist never wins a race again as its impossible to shift as fast as the computer nor do you have as much control. he will claim the driving experience is better or he has more feel or control that's nonsense. Are you still listening to records or tapes or even cds? no? why technology is better. you do get the "purists" that claims the cd has better sound quality than an MP3. i say stop your nonsense and move on.
L4 V4 Q4 S4 whatever you want to call it bring on the 4 :D

I agree bring on the 4, whatever the configuration. But it's a marketing thing. They need to appeal to everyone and the (ahem) purists are loyal to the brand so it would be in Ducati's interests to give them something as well as the likes of you and I who don't mind change. You can't just slam the door in their faces or turn your back on your roots.

i get it for racing but for the average rider you do not need a bike in excess of 200bhp that you can only ride because of the computers.

it's probably why i get so much pleasure from riding smaller displacement bikes that you control using your throttle and brake only, maybe that makes me old school but i'm a far better rider as a result of it.

And yeah, I totally agree with you here too. I have the 2015 R and I have no shame in putting my hands up and admitting its power is a bit too much for me. But that doesn't mean I don't or can't enjoy it.

But I am exploring other possibilities because of it. I mean a second, slower, everyday bike. I will still keep what I have, but whatever Ducati come out with next..... I won't need it. Who knows, maybe they will do a smaller mid-range V4, I'd consider that.

As you already said and as a dear friend of mine once told me "it's better to be able to go quick on a slow bike than it is to go slow on a fast bike"

Being Italian, it will look good , sound good , by product will be fast. Im going with it will be V4 . All the superbikes are now way to fast to be quick on the roads , even the twisties. Its just a bench mark thing. My street fighter is way quicker through canyon type roads than my 1299 track bike .But bring on a V4

For me, I like the simpler design of a twin. Adding two more cylinders to the mix just seems like it's complicating things? What is the advantage of a 4? More internal inertia, less stalling? Smoother running I'd imagine. Not sure that would be enough for me. I guess it's a track thing?

...you just have to admit....you love the duc you have...and want more of what they've been doing for you over the years, in the form of the twin...but maybe another 2 cylinders will be double the pleasure and double the fun ;)

Haha maybe. I'm all for change, but I'm not sure I'd be selling what I have. Just adding to the stable maybe. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. I don't feel like Ducati makes very many bad choices when it comes to product design but who knows.

Upping the cylinder count for one will increase power. The 1299 twin cannot be developed anymore in terms of power, in it's current configuration, it is way too undersquare. I like the slimness of the Ducati twins, going 4 cylinder will inevitably increase the bike's girth, by how much remains to be seen. Ducati will be breaking with tradition by going 4 cylinders but with Euro 4 and the upcoming Euro 5 restrictions, they have little choice if they want to keep up with the competition.
I will be looking forward to Ducati's V4, it won't be short on power and the sound of it's exhaust although it won't be as loud as we would like it (due to new noise and emission laws).

I realize that and it's hard to imagine being able to get any more to the ground. Like I said, must be a track thing.

Hopefully they keep the current twin 1299 design in a "lesser" model.

I've asked my friends and contacts at Ducati over the past couple years and received a unanimous, "nope." And there was no hint of deception, no knowing grin, just a straight, solid: NOPE. (Now, if they did suggest it was a possibility, I wouldn't say a damned thing.)

With all that said, I simply can't believe they can pull off a feat of making a twin that's mechanically much of an improvement over the 1299's engine. But then again, everyone used to say that the 1198's lump was about the limit of what a twin could achieve. HA!

I still wonder if they'd ever go FI. If for no other reason than emissions + sound.

You mean direct injection?

I'm wondering when Audi technology finally shows up on bikes.

1399 TFSI desmo? Eff yeah. I say 250 horses

A TDI Multistrada with a 200 mile Range? Yes please!

Perhaps there will be no Ducati L4? A V4 will roll out but with four rings on it?

Don't forget one of the coolest technology developments that came from VW back in the early 90's that they have in their technology bag. The narrow angle "V" and offset cylinders which allowed a 6 (VR6) cylinder engine to fit in essentially a 4 cylinder space. That technology found its way in many different VAG vehicles over the years including 8 and 12 cylinder versions known as W8 and W12. It would make complete sense to utilize this design if they wanted to add two more cylinders to the Panigale without increasing the width by too much.

That being said my prediction is that it will be a "W4" and NOT a V4 or L4. [emoji2]

I think his FI was not fuel injection, but rather forced induction, like turbos or superchargers
