Dunlop Q3 Results/Feedback Etc

Horses for courses really, and having run Q3's and the S20's it comes down to feel preference. I tend to like the feel of Bridgestone's softer carcass a wee bit more at street speeds, but Q3's are super-solid as well; just about to spoon on a fresh set. For the street and an occasional trackday either is plenty sufficient for anyone looking for an alternative to the OEM tire. As for the new S20 EVO, I can't say since I haven't ridden them, but the advertised changes look promising. Main thing was to point out they are releasing a 200/55.

Thanks.... The size has been discussed on here previously...that Dunlop could call their 190/55 a 200/55 if they so chose...Given the price I think Q3 wins.... Longevity of the S20 is still to be shown I guess.... :)

Q3's are a great deal right now to be sure, and like I told someone the other day they're kind of a no-brainer choice for the street. But since the Q3 and the 190/55 S20 measure out very, very similarly, it'll be interesting to see what the 200/55 Bridgestones' actual dimensions are. Might eliminate the TC issue altogether; kind of a shame to have 8 levels with only 2 of any use in the dry. The front/rear diameter ratio is a bit better on the existing S20's due to the smaller front, and if they keep that then a larger 200/55 on back should really work much better with the TC.

I promise to buy a set and report back after I roast my next set of Q3's... ;)

i actually ran an S20 200/50 on my Pani!!! it was terrible compared to the 190/55 q3. it wore down in the middle very fast and uneven in relation to the sides in comparison to the Q3's and the SC's. it didnt even last as long as my Q3. somewhere between the Q3's and the SC's as far as life but the way in which it wore down was very annoying...flattened out very quickly. please keep in mind i rode the same roads with all 3 of these tires at the same intensity overall.

Steve B - thanks for the heads-up on the S20 Evo. I loved the set of S20's I burned through (190/55 rear), great feel and confidence inspiring when I got caught in several Smoky Mountain thunderstorms. They claim to have addressed the biggest problem I had with the S20s, which was very quick wear. I only got about 2300 miles out of them, and as azimmerlyjr points out they flat-spotted quickly.

Just put 200 miles on my first set of Q3s. Without making any geometry changes from the previous Supercorsa 200/55 set, I would say the steering effort is noticeably heavier. I like the feel but definitely seems like a more rounded profile to the front causing slower steering characteristics, but I also didn't do before/after ride height measurements so maybe the rear is also sitting lower causing the steering difference.

You do understand that the 200/50 was the completely wrong profile choice for the Pani, right? Any 190/55 is a better choice than a 200/50 given the geometry of the Pani OEM tires. Steve B was talking about the S20 Evo tire being introduced in the correct 200/55 profile, just to be clear.

I completely understand. perhaps I was unclear as to what I was addressing. I was addressing the wear patterns vs. the Q3 and the SC. or at least I meant to. I made the mistake of getting the 200/50 S20 and then the Q3 as well before reading on this forum that I should indeed get the 190/55, which I did, and it made the world of difference. I am currently running the 190/55 Q3 and its amazing. is the Evo supposed to have the same tread compound? because the center wore very poorly in comparison to the Q3 and SC in the same operating conditions and temps/psi...

Just as a followup, I wasn't suggesting that the new S20 was clearly superior to the Q3, just that there was now going to be another alternative with a true 200/55 rear on the market. Bridgestone say they've added some stiffness in the carcass up front, plus the sidewalls as well in back, in addition to going to a triple compound rear from a double on the original S20, so that might address some of your concerns. It'll be interesting to see how the update rides.

??????2????????? ?BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S20 EVO?(?????? ???????? ?????? ??)??? | ???????? | ??????????

Can't say I really noticed the center wear issue on mine, but roads are generally pretty twisty in my area so you'd just naturally see less of that here anyway. The 190/55 does affect TC functionality, but to an acceptable level on the street for most users. Would be nice for it to be a non-issue. We shall see!

steve b - i just looked up those battlax tires. very intersting they are actually 197 MM wide dunlop 190 are actually 193.5 and the pirelli 200 is actually 193. the overal diameter is

battlax 649mm
q3 649.73mm
pirelli 656mm

price is competitive with the q3 also

Thanks Mark -where'd you find the dimensions? Not seeing the diameter there, which would be most interesting. My 190/55 S20's and Q3's measured virtually the same center diameter, BTW, with the front Q3 a few mm taller than either the Pirelli or the S20. I'd be hoping to see a front/rear ratio equal to or perhaps slightly lower than the Supercorsa's.

if the additional compound is a center that is harder than the one in the center now, I will be very interested to see what it offers as far as tread life (in the center for us FLA boys). it DID perform great in the wet/damp conditions I will say. anyway keep us updated! thanks a lot!

i only did the rear dimensions. its on bridgestones site. i didnt even think about the front damn it

Does anyone run the 190 on the street? Is it street legal since it doesn't match the OEM?

Thanks

Thanks

I did on my '12... Still waiting for my Pirellis to wear out on my new bike ...so I can do so again... Not sure I understand your "street legal" question...???

In EU you can go only with the OEM tires dimensions. If the cops stop you or you are involved in a wreck they can invalidate your bike, in the first case they send you through the tech inspection, long and painful process, in the 2nd case the insurance can void your coverage and let you swim in the ....!

There is no violation of that sort here in the free USA. We have the liberty of switching tires to non OEM but DOT approved. Then again we have ridiculously low speed limits and limited fun roads compared to EU. Maybe this is why the general motoring laws are much more strict in Europe.

I love this country!! And about the speed limit in Italy the limitations are even worst, 15 mph in some downtown, you need the training wheels to stand up :-D

the q2 outperformed the pirelli in the shootouts too. those were independent tests. what can i tell you dont buy it then. i am just telling you what i was told. makes no difference to me i am just looking for just as good tire for a cheaper price. the q3 is that tire to me.

i have ridden both the q2 and the pirelli. i thought the q2 was a better tire especially when wearing down. the q3 is better than the q2.

All the comparison's I saw the Pirelli was TOP DOG but the Q2/3 was right behind. The tester's said "if ya got the money" the Pirelli was the best BUT the Q3 was an amazing tire as well and GREAT in the wet.

ALL I'm happy to hear is it performs well, you guys like them, and can recommend them for my Pani, and I save $100-200 every time I put a set of tires on my bike... :D

Q3 190 is not the same size as pirelli 200 look at spec sheet and it does affect TC people are dumb
