This all happend sooner and later than i thought

Last year after starting to do a ton of track days (19) I decided i wanted to start racing. I have been dabbling in track days for 6 years now and i think it is time. Prior to 2018 i only did a couple a year but went all out last year, committing to improving my skills.

I looked at the options for what i could run, the 959 I was piloting would be pinned against litre bikes. I am sure it would be fine and dandy until skill caught up to power for the other riders. At that point HP would be an obstacle to create an uneven playing ground. I looked into what it would cost to make the 959 as competitive and decided to trade her in for the 1199r i am running now.

This winter i spend most of my time recouping my loss on the trade and this spring i have been track prepping my bike. I planned on only tracking my bike this season for track days and wait to get my license till next season, or perhaps not at all. Doubts entered my head for a while, i almost bought a cheep set of plastics, but realized i can get a race body kit that was designed to be crashed and repaired for the same money.

Visiting my friends at Loudon Motor Speedway aka New Hampshire Motor Speedway I got some heckling for not being in their paddock racing as we all thought i would be on the 959.

So I have made a final decision to go to the August 16th track day to get my racing license and enter into 3 races that weekend. Pretty happy about my decision. The guys at LRRS are a group of good men. I will use that term loosely.

That’s awesome news, I have been Racing CCS/ ASRA for the last 3 years!!#23.. I have rode Loudon several times and I also am good friends with Eric Wood... Enjoy the experience and have fun.

Woodcraft is great, Eric is so knowledgeable
I look forward to running other tracks other than just Loudon
Sergio said he would head down to VIR w me.
I dont want to get caught up in just LRRS

I got a used 600 bike already converted to race only when I started CCS and WERA. If you get a 600 you can enter almost any class except twins, and race all day Saturday and Sunday till you too tired to do anymore. Racing is not trackday, not even close. I suggest you scour the classifieds in Roadracing world for used race bikes.

Well, i am committed to my Ducati bikes for now. I can run 4 classes once i get into Armature. I am stuck at 3 for now. I still plan on doing a lot of track days, perhaps clumping them into 2 and 3 day events. With Loudon you can run on Thursdays , pit in and out as you wish all day and ride Friday practice, then set you up for Sat and Sunday racing. I would hope my heart will be content by Sunday afternoon.

I wouldnt mind picking up a 600 in the future, for now that is not in my plans. A motard wouldnt be a bad alternative either.

A bit of racing is in my future plans as well, those Aprilia RS660s would be the perfect bike to run though I have no idea about pricing.

@DCPanni I hear you on racing versus track days. Did a fair amount of Formula Dodge and once the green flag drops it makes people do crazy things, amazing how motivated humans are by trophies. Luckily I'm in a different stage of life that a podium isn't a goal, just participating is enough for me.

Good luck man. I've raced CCS and WERA for 20 years. Be smart in the amateur class. The spread of the talent level is extreme so keep your head on a swivel. Once you get to expert, the pace will be much hotter, but the skill level goes way up. Again, good luck and be safe. Highside49

You are definitely correct!! Expert is much safer just at a lot more speed!!!

I agree with scotman get your White plate asap. I raced a Hawk 650 and CBR600F3 back in the 90's with WERA and CCS. Maxed out way too many credits cards to feed my addiction. I reached my goal in 99. I raced one pro/expect event:) I got lapped but at least I raced. It was a humbling experience.
You should look into endurance racing much more bang for the buck.
