Btw, I can see how dyno's can vary, but how can two magazines weigh the same model and come up with a different weight? I've never understood that.
Amount of fuel, weight of oil, accuracy of scale, etc.

the new bmw has been sorted out in numerous ways. the swing arm, the rake rate etc. so BMW has already 2 years of headstart in the set up department.

Now with these types of tests. It is very rare for Ducati to win these tests and even plasing second is a bit rare. but what is important to me is the race results. To date I have not read a test done by magazines that ducati has emerged a winner. but come race day, Ducati delivers and if you are in the sports bike market, winning races is more important.

Since todays bikes are so potent (according to keith code, todays production bikes can match the laptimes of full race bikes 10 years ago) and that you can not max it out any way in the corners, why not concern yourself with increasing your skill level? I mean think about it, an exceptional Ducati rider on a Ducati bike will kick the ass of a mediocre bmw rider on a superb bike.

Hello all, I read through this entire thread, because I’m considering a 2012 Panigale 1199S for sale here in Texas.

What is the collective wisdom now, looking back at the introductory model, regarding purchasing this first year model? I’m sort of watching my pennies and looking for a bargain; obviously I can get this one for a lot less than a new or even used V4.

Are the 1199s still a compelling and contemporary feeling motorcycle? I’m coming out of a couple of 1098s, and I currently own a current Yamaha R1 and love that bike. Just looking to get back into Ducati, but want to move forward into the new generation.

My main concerns are heat and fitting myself on the bike— I’m 6’3”, 228lbs. I’ve ridden them before so I sort of remember, but they are smaller than a 1098. The particular bike I’m looking at is out of town so a test ride is not easily arranged.

I’ll appreciate any and all comments, thanks guys and gals! :)

Im 6'4" and the 1299 fitted me far better than all other sports bikes. Never ridden an 1199 but have friend who had one and he loved it especially on track. check out

I’m still 6’2 n change (barely) and over 200#

I’m sure I look like a monkey ....... a football riding anything with less than 80” of wheelbase but 1199 is doable

And lotsa fun : )
