I think I have owned nearly 30 bikes in 8 years . Pretty stupid really .
Whenever I reread Song of the Sausage Creature, I just have to wonder - how would he have felt on an 1198SP? Or the 1299 for that matter??
everyone here is too embarrassed to say they rode a gigster in the past! Haha jk
my first 2 bikes... sadly... we suzuki gsxrs, a 600 then 1000... I thought it was the cool bike back then, nothing more then a bike to beat on and think i was badda$$
I then got a Yamaha R1 and realized what I was missing out on with a real bike, and when I got the panigale after that wow, no comparison
...or one of these:
My first "motorcycle" was a Sachs Saxonette: Top speed was 31km/h.
I drove from Zurich to London in only 3 days, that was in 1981
I just turned 32. Honda 50cc was my first bike (got it for my 5th BDay). Moved to a 125 at around 10. Next came an R6, then a gsxr1000. Back to a cbr600rr, then a 1000rr. Quick stint with an Aprilia Shiver and a BMW K1200r.
Can't see myself falling out of love with the Ducs any time soon.
I always used to drool over the Ducs, but would tell myself "why would I pay that much more for a bike that isn't really any faster?" At least that's what I said to justify pockets that weren't deep enough at the time.
Just curious what the demographic for these bikes? Are you older guys who can finally afford one or guys in your 20's and 30's? I'm fairly young and wasn't sure if thats typical for these kind of bikes or not. I've also never seen another guy on a 1299 In my hometown of Columbus, Ohio yet!
I'm 46... Been on the Pani for a year. First sport bike was a Hayabusa (being tall, I don't fit on the GXR or R6 very well- all knees and elbows). My daily rider is a BMW GSA-but it just doesn't have the go-go I like to have from time to time. The Busa is a lot of bang for the buck, much like the GXR, and I liked the Busa but when I took the 1199s for a spin and I was sold. Can't say it the most practical purchase I've made- it is an expensive toy. I can imagine a younger person might have to stretch to make this purchase because you still need a car and a life. Also, it's not just the sticker price- TCO (insurance, maintenance, tires) adds up pretty quick.
Ride it mostly on the track and to work on nice days- so like I said, not the most practical purchase. It's also not a bike you want to just leave out in the weather.
I still had my first bikes up till recently . My dad restored them for me maybe some other members might have had something similar .
