I don't even think I've everrrrrr been above 4th gear on this bike. Not even during break-in period. Grant it, fastest I've ever done is 120 on this bike. This bikes gearing is way too tall. Maybe I think that because it's my 1st non 600 bike. Anywho, I primarily ride in 3rd gear on the freeways. Even then I'm still comfortably able to do 70mph and not even break a sweat on this bike. .... is ridiculous!

I'm guessing you haven't done any long trips???:)

Long trips? What's that? :D

Just broke the 1000 mile mark after 6 months of ownership lol. I have sooooo much free time on my hands that I don't really know what to do. I work 6:30a.m. - 11:00a.m. or noon and the rest of the day I'm super bored. I'm not one of those that likes to ride alone. I also don't really enjoy the street rides at all. Prefer freeway riding or riding with at least one other person for safety reasons. Never know what may happen out there through twisties. Everyone else is workin and no one is lucky enough to have the kinda schedule I have. I have my son on the weekends so finding time to ride then is also a bit of a challenge. Rarely I can manage a Sunday morning ride for a couple hours but even then it seems like the stars have to line up from the night before in order to make the ride next morning happen. I've hit up the SoCal thread on here and no one responded so I didn't ride this Sunday either.

To answer your question, no. Longest commute I've done on this bike is 35 miles one way and that was to visit a "lady friend" My longest commute ever on a bike was from home to San Diego which is about 120 miles one way and I've done that twice on a bike. Extremely difficult to do that without a break. Managed to pull that off the second time but the first time I stopped once to grab a bite to eat and rest. I don't know how some of you guys are able to do hundreds of miles in one session like that. I know long rides are easier in groups but still difficult. I don't see a long journey like that in my future on the Pani.

Then I can seen why you don't ever get into 6th...lol...I do 500/600 mile trips on Sundays (sometimes) 6th is definitely necessary on those days....

DAMN!!!! That's a long ... day! Hell, I don't even like driving that much. I think I have a mental block or a 2 hour limit. I've driven from L.A. to Frisco, L.A. to Vegas, but a ride equivalent to that or even more? That's gotta be hard on the body and exhausting! To be honest though, I have wanted to ride out to Laguna Seca for MotoGP weekend but again, I haven't been able to find anyone to ride up there with me. Guess I won't say never. Maybe one day I'll make a longggg trip just to say I did.

It runs around 13 hours...but with good friends and great roads its really fun....Panigale is actually very comfortable ..as long as you get the Comfort seat.... I do ache for a couple of days after but nothing terrible..

I opted for the Race Seat after hearing that there wasn't much of a difference in feel. I've kinda gotten used to the height of the seat but initially hated feeling like I was on top of the bike. I'm also looking into aftermarket clip-ons to help ease some of the pressure off the wrists a tad. Maybe it's all in my head but I definitely feel more pressure on my wrists after having put on the higher seat. I've tried adjusting my wrist position n other things but still seems to happen. Not even sure if aftermarket clip-ons will make any difference but I'm assuming that 6mm-10mm adjustability over OEM could be difference enough to be justified. I don't know.

I guess ergonomics can be a very individual thing... I am lucky...this bike fits me perfectly... I have had a few bikes that don't...

I guess so. I'm 6'0 so I don't have any issues with putting my feet on the ground even with the race seat but I guess it's merely a preference of feeling like you're in the bike vs. on top of it. More seat time may help haha

Yeah...ride it.... lol

It's not that I don't know what I'm doing I just get too cautious at times. I mean I've ridden fast etc. I've even had to ditch the cops once but this bike is a whole new beast.

I'm sorry but if you didn't naturally feel gearing to be wrong then you need to get back on a 600 asap!!!! As for wheelies traction on level 8 if your still not comfortable 195hp low .... I'm proud of the guys here not bashing you they usually eat guys like you for breakfast with such a post ......

We are becoming a family....:p

Actually, I thought he was joking or didnt ride an 1199!

After reading about the bike pulling hard from 8000 to redline I was counting the miles until first service just to find out.

I find it hard to believe someone wouldnt accidently find the "hidden" power that this bike has. Most dyno posts show hp at certain rpms. This motor makes max power right before redline.

The bike is sluggish below 6000 revs. Reminds me of big turbo lag. Wait until 7000 then hold on.

All we need now is the sound of a turbo spooling up and we're good to go!

I used to hate turbo lag on my Evo once I put a bigger turbo on it but with time, you grow to learn how to drive the car and stay in the right gears better and become familiar with the exhaust note and ultimately not even having to look and see when you have to shift gears. I'm always above 3.5k rpm's in my car and shift at 7.5k. Always in the power range and rarely experience turbo lag. Same thing applies with the bike but without a turbo. At the very minimum, I'd say stay above 5k rpm's, even through city streets but most certainly on the freeways. Once you have enough seat time, you can tell what your rpm range is (roughly) just by the note your exhaust produces. You will VERY RARELY be left behind.

I've yet to find a stock Jap bike I can't take and I'm heavier than the guys I normally ride with. Like others said you have to read the guys you are following and anticipate when they are going to take off. Downshift with them, go WFO in 2nd gear, let the front come off the ground, but stay in it, and quick shift right before the rev limiter into 3rd, 4th, etc. If a 600 pulls away from you when you do this, go have your bike looked at and dyno'ed at the dealer. I routinely pass R1's and CBR1000's when they get the jump on me and if I go first they never catch me.

In the canyons on a 848 id come out of a corner driving hard and pull older R1's and the 600's were wind up so high you could hear them way behind you.

Im going to love the second gear on this one ;)
