They (SM) told me themselves that Ducati wanted a certain quality of showroom, however, the upgrades would be too expensive. Rather than provide SM with dealership status until a new dealership could be setup, DNA pulled their status, leaving the entire Calgary market high and dry (+1.1mil population).

Who knows.

Just closed the deal on an "R" this afternoon. Traded in my Diavel Carbon Red for it and will be selling my Pani S on consignment when the R arrives. The dealer recommended not to trade-in the S because he had 4 used Panigales at the moment but had no Diavel in his used dept. He could give me more, proportionally, for the Diavel.

The big problem now is that I won't get it until April 15 or so... That's when the R will arrive in Chile. I'm getting sweaty palms already.

After stressing over the swap with my "S" for a good hour or so, all the positive reviews of the "R engine" sold me. I mentioned on an earlier post that I have most of the R upgrades on my S but the R engine is what I'm going for. That's and upgrade I can't do at this time.

Will be selling all the carbon bits from my S when the R arrives. Then CF rear hugger, swingarm cover, mono-shock cover. Let me know if somebody is interested via PM. I'll probably transfer the current full Termi setup from my S to the R and sell the new full Termi from the R. My mechanic told me that there might be a spec change of the manifold or exhaust mount, so if that's the case I'll be selling the "used" full Termi from the S. Many of you probably are wondering about my location... I travel to the US(So Cal) very often so I'll make shipping arrangements when I take it there. Next trip will be around second or third week of April.

Can't wait for the R!

Congrats man!!!

I need to come visit you in Chile! I traveled to Colombia and Panama but never to Chile. :D

From what I've been told, dealers who make "upgrades" to showrooms also qualify for incentives.....in the short run, expensive, yes....but they'd easily have been able to cover costs and more within a year or two of upgrading. There's a number of dealers who haven't done upgrades to showrooms, but haven't had their status changed....they just don't get the incentives.

Who knows.

I don't know if that's true or not, but the last dealer here (Shaganappi Motorsports) told me that they were not given a choice; it was either upgrade, or drop the brand. One of the higher ups there told me that the renos would have been in the "millions". If that's true, I can see why they didn't go through with it.

Anyway, not an issue anymore since the Ducati dealership presence is officially dead in this area. Sorry for getting off topic. Continue to discuss the R and congrats to those who threw down for the beauty!

Come down... Let me know and I'll try to hook you up with a bike so we can go riding. :) I usually have more than one bike, but I'm cutting down to one bike since I've been riding the Panigale. Love this bike... with the R I'll love it a bit more.

And I have even won a Chile contest up in WI once!

I'm immune to the "chile", "chili", "so chilly", etc. jokes by now. Been here since 3 years ago from 27 years of living in the US. CA and CO, but mostly in CA. Torrance, CA to be specific.

Come down and cook us some chili! One of the foods that I miss the most. When I land in the US I head straight to Wendy's and have a cup of chili for a quick fix then later head to a proper restaurant/bar that's known for good chili. :D

Hahahah - great to forum-meet you! Let me be nosey and ask what took you to Chile, (besides transportation :) )?

Signed up to say that as someone who was there, that's not 100% true.

SM inherited the business from Wild and then decided they didn't want to continue be a Ducati dealer. Can't fault them; same agreement every other Ducati dealer has, they just didn't like it. There's even low-volume dealers that carry Ducati and they're not being required to do "million" $ build-outs. Dunno why SM would piss on Ducati for their own choice.....unless they're trying to sell you a competing bike ;)

^ As I said, that's what I was told by someone there (who I won't name). No, they weren't trying to sell me anything, and assuming what you're saying is true, then the individual was lying about the situation to shift blame on DNA. Doesn't matter to me one way or another; TBH, having dealt with Calgary Ducati, SM and DNA repeatledy over the past year, the most apparent thing is that none of them takes accountability and always blames someone else.

Frankly, I'm glad neither has the brand because even Blackfoot does a better job with customers and those guys are staffed by a herd of 16 year olds.

Anyway, I don't wish to derail the thread further. It you want to discuss the situation further feel free to PM me.

Can I come too? I make a really good chilli....:p

....... A! Let's make an 1199 BSTR run! That would be crazy! Who else wants in?

Gotta go by AH outline:

Don't plan anything that doesn't need to be planned
Stay somewhere until I get bored or restless, then move on
Don't become attached to anything I can't walk away from in 5 minutes
Don't end up in a hospital or morgue

That's it.
